Do they really think radiant heat is the same as microwave????? Radiant heat is the kind of heat you get off of the round object you put on top of your propane cylinder in the winter to eat your garage.
Another great podcast! You guys are crushing the other aviation podcasts. Not sure how….. but maybe it’s because you don’t ramble on and actually talk about things that pilots are interested in.
Thanks for the review fellas! Would be great to see you review one of the TravelPro FlightCrew bags (22" expandable seems popular) and the TravelPro Pilot Seven3 bag. Reports online are super mixed when it comes to TP's current durability and repairs process, so it's tough to decide between them, Luggage Works, and Briggs & Riley. These seem to be the major players with models that work for both flight crew and the lay traveler. I'm all about durability, practicality and bang for the buck, so these three brands are on my radar. Would love to see you guys compare and contrast the Baseline, Aurora, and the two FlightCrew models I mentioned. Anyway, enough of my yapping. Appreciate the insight shared in your videos. Keep it up!
I just had a thought. Let me know if I'm somehow confused about this. If you leave the handle inside the bag, you give up, say, an inch of packing space (times the other dimensions of the case, of course). But if you place the handle externally, then in order to maintain the same overall dimensions of the bag, you'd have to make the internal space that much smaller. Unless I'm mistaken, it's sort of a "6 of one, half a dozen of the other" situation. If the total depth of the bag is 9" and the handle is inside the bag, you've got 8" of packing space (not exactly, but let's say it's that's simple for the purpose of understanding without getting into the weeds). If you place the handle outside of the bag and maintain the same total depth of 9" (which includes wheels and handles), you have a flatter 8", but still pretty much the same 8". Otherwise, the inside becomes 9" and the addd inch from the external handle increases the overall depth to 10". I'm really drawn toward this carry-on, so I'm not knocking it at all. That just crossed my mind and I thought I'd spit it out in the hope that someone can tell me I'm wrong and set me straight, or confirm that I'm not losing my mathematical mind lol.
Van driver is gonna crush your headset if you put it in that top pouch of either bag, ask me how I know. LOL
hideous? Who actually cares?
Excellent podcast. I immediately downloaded the NBAA handbook on personal use taxation. Keep the great content coming! Thanks!
All international orders are considered final. No returns will be permitted. If you reside outside of the US like I do in Asia they will not take any returns warranty
Should I continue to CFI past 1500 or take a seat support SIC job at FSI? Even though I can’t log that time?
I’ve owned my B&R carry on for maybe 15+ years and use it all the time.
Found the Hello ATC video, and no distractions. But not ice ice maybe.
Dr. Broyhill's knowledge and insight is top tier! Politics aside (Personally, I feel you should "like" your elected officials to a certain degree. Most importantly them being a competent individual) This conversation is necessary for pilots, young and ol...seasoned, to truly evaluate their worth, have realistic and fair expectations for themselves and from their employer, and PUT THE MISSION FIRST. Thanks for sharing.
B&R warranty is a sham. I live in one of the biggest metro areas in the US and there's not a single repair center within 300 miles of it.
Great review. I just want to point out for anyone looking to buy, that the stats that are given appear to be for the basic Aurora 22, but the bag in the review is the Aurora 22 with expandable suiter. I think all the points being made are still valid, but the size, weight, and price difference between the two bags may be confusing without that context.
What's wild is that in the beginning of the video with all the bags lined up side-by-side, the Aurora appears to have a lot more depth than the Briggs bag. But, they are both listed on their respective websites as having a depth of 9". I wish I could get my hands on the Aurora to measure it because I am thinking it might be a little on the thick side, even before expansion. Would be tough to buy it and find out it won't clear a sizer, get past a scrupulous gate attendant, or fit into an overhead cabin,
This is the one I mentioned in my Flight Advice! Let me know when y’all drop the 21.FIVE patches.
Good find, airman!
Thank your for the quality content
"wood chuck" = wind check on final?
I felt it too. Sitting on the right side, same section. Was terribly annoying.
25 year FA with AA. I carried this bag for the last 10 years, retired and have since drug it all over the world as an NR. I would not buy anything else. After about 20 years it needed some TLC, I mailed it in to Briggs and Rily and they called me and offered me a brand new bag for an unblieveably cheap price. Took them up on it, and love it also.
After a couple months of continuous use, Be wary, the wheels fall off regularly when you hit bumps. The 4 wheels have been nice as a corporate pilot, but it’s embarrassing when you are wheeling a bag in missing a wheel.
i heard there was an issue with the wheels initially but they have been reengineered. definitely contact them as they will send you the new wheels.
Yep they upgraded the wheels and solved this a long time ago. They actually proactively sent out replacements too. Customer service is the best!
Include the Travelpro Pilot seven3 in the next comparison.
I hate those special event fees! Fraud waste and abuse!
I have this bag and agree with everything you guys mentioned. I use it as an airline pilot. Cons for me is the flex in the handle and the T-strap hooks onto the expandable part of the bag so a super heavy second bag will cause it to expand out. I added a J hook at the handle to solve this.
When I flew for my job (every week back in the mid-2000’s), TravelPro luggage and bags were the ones to have, as they were very reliable. Are TravelPros still relevant or popular today?
I just retired as a 747 flight engineer and I was able to get a fan blade for my aviation man cave. I’m trying to find somewhere to get it polished up like yours. Any chance I can get your guys contact info?
Can you guys review the Luggage Works Stealth Premier 22” 737 bag? I know it’s closely related to the stealth but seems a lot lighter. Curious how it holds up and if you guys like it. Love the videos!
Afternoon gents. Can you provide an update to your experience since this post? I appreciate the videos!
Just found the podcast… so good!! Thanks for all the great content and laughs. BTW, is it just me or does Max sound like Andy Stumph? 😂 (especially his laugh)
New here! Loving the content. Can you review the bigger bag they offer? My concern is fitting it in the overhead bins when I have to fly commercially somewhere to pick up a plane.
I have been carrying the 25 for a long time and it always fits, BUT 20% of the time it has to go sideways in the bin. But for me this is not an issue.
I have traveled with B&R bags for almost years and am still using them. All models have great features and I've never had a failure or the need to send a bag back to B&R. They are expensive, but since I am still using all of my older models, plus a few newer ones, I just consider how many cheaper bags I would've replaced over the years. With this consideration, Briggs bags are very affordable. I don't like the spinner bags as there is less packing space & I assume the wheels would be more apt to be broken by baggage handlers/equipment during travel. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with this brand!
I just scored a medium size check Briggs baseline at my local Goodwill for $16.99. Looked brand new except one of the zippers had the round lock loop broken. I took the bad to my local Briggs dealer and they took it for repair. Zero questions. No receipt needed. They even let you list all this things you’d like checked out. Can take up to two weeks to repair.
Roger's book is absolutely amazing. I bought the audio book, and it's 20+ hrs of pure adventure. I laughed, and a few times, I was on the verge of tears. The most wonderful part is that it is read by Roger himself. Story's of a pilot, train engineer, bootlegger, and Man of God are still told here in south G.a. Godspeed Roger Reaves.
Thanks, just what I needed to hear…… A review from professionals in the industry…… As a Civilian who is a little rough on luggage and overpacking….. I’ll be purchasing this item soon
I’m listening to this two years later but I loved Jim’s reference to Muleshoe, TX. I have family there.
On the speed thing, I frequently listen to YT videos at 1.75x or 2X but when it has really good content like this I rewind and replay at 1x. Sitting at 31 hours now and hoping to solo soon at 52 years old.
"I refuse to engage" 😂😂😂
What is the point of posting this awkwsrd convo? This is basically just a video of a guy asking a question with no answer to it? Who would possibly enjoy watching this?
Don't forget about not bringing any carry-on bags. Lol
is this better than the executive 22”?
Great show and amazing content. I wish I had found your show sooner. Thank you blessing ALL of us pilots with your wisdom.
What about the Briggs and Riley Baseline in the 4 wheel spinner version?
I have the International 2 wheel Baseline and it's the best bag ever. One time I was forced to check and ended up with a damaged wheel base. Sent in for repair and it came back good as new. After 11 years, the handle it starting to show scuffs and how much it's taken a beating, but the bag is still rock solid.
I have this exact B&R baseline 2-wheel, as well. 5 years as an airline pilot, and it’s bulletproof. The secret is I replaced the crappy wheels with roller blade style luggage wheels from Amazon or eBay. It took three tries to get the right size wheels, but once I got the right wheels, it was perfect now for 5 years going!
What kind of wheels did you get?
@@jordangriffith-simmon8003 roller blade style luggage wheels that had to be exactly the same diameter as factory R&B. Sorry I don’t remember the brand of wheel maker.
@@RicParkscan look up your Amazon order history?
@@WilsonYeung72mm inline skate wheels from Amazon. I have the same bag and have replaced them as well. They work perfectly. They come with bearings and put an included spacer on each side.
Not a pilot, but flying nearly every week for work. Baggage handlers have destroyed my new checked suitcase in a month. Trying to find something extremely durable for average baggage handling. Need to bring a lot of gear including inclement weather gear, hardhat, multiple boots sometimes. Are these the brands i should be looking at ?
Your schizophrenic and so am i
Shoutout to Roy!
I'm glad you interviewed Mr. Nolen about this topic. I have a few comments that I would have loved to have been covered in greater detail: 1. Early in the conversation, Mr. Nolen mentioned how much time could be saved by this kind of travel. This is true in the sense of the point-to-point travel time viewed by itself, but does not consider other factors: Travel time to the "air taxi" port, Parking at the air taxi port, time to get through security (haven't seen anyone discuss what will be required), once you get to the destination air taxi port, the ground transport to your final destination. Will it really save time? In some cases, yes. Others, no. If you factor in the unpredictability of weather it becomes less reliable, as well. 2. The conversation about working with municipalities and mayors etc. was touched on, but not very deeply. Have these leaders come up with plans to combat noise complaints from neighbors? I think there is a reason that it is difficult to find raw videos of these eVTOLS taking off and landing. They are noisy. It sounds like a giant swarm of bees. I don't think the families in the apartments below/next door to these things are going to appreciate the noise and put up with it. Think about all the noise ordinance issues with urban sprawl around conventional airports we have already... 3. What about safety concerns? New York City already heavily restricts existing helicopter commuting in the city: edition.cnn.com/2019/06/10/us/new-york-city-helicopter-flights/ When one of these crashes in a city center eventually, will they be banned? 4. How will the risks of passenger hijacking be addressed? 5.In a NASA study on the viability of UAM, it was found that of those surveyed, 49% of people reported that they would feel safe (protected against mishaps and accidents) in a piloted UAM aircraft while only 19% would feel safe in a fully autonomous UAM vehicle. So it is probably good that Archer wants to use pilots, but it is still pretty small market. 6. I think the UberX economics are VERY optimistic. VTOL already exists: helicopters. If cheap urban flights across cities was possible for the average person, we would already be doing it in Robinson R44s. Aviation start-ups always have optimistic numbers about how much new aircraft will cost, for instance. If you double their estimates, you will typically have a good ballpark for the actual price. Just look at how much a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon costs. Or on the "cheap" side: alpineairalaska.com/thirty-minute-flightseeing-tour/ An R44 tour, $329 PER SEAT for a 30 minute flight-seeing trip. 7. 1000 lbs. Useful load. A pilot and four passengers with a carry-on? Did I hear that right in the video? That would be 200lbs. each with luggage. Pilot + 3 is more realistic. Will it still be financially viable? 8. How are these flights booked? On-demand like Uber? Or scheduled? Are you paying per seat or for the whole aircraft if it isn't full? 9. Mr. Nelsen mentioned this might be a “path” for pilots working toward the airlines or other segments of aviation. Who is going to provide this Powered Lift training? I don’t know of any Powered Lift Instructors outside of the military (Osprey platform, for instance). What aircraft are they going to train in? No Powered Lift training platforms exist as far as I know. Will UND or Embry-Riddle buy Archer Midnights for this? If they cost “less” than an equivalent Bell helicopter, they will still be over $1000/hour for students. An R44 costs over $550/hour to learn to fly. What aviation student is going to add all that extra cost during their already expensive flight training? Anyway, just wanted to add my thoughts. Thanks for doing these great podcasts!
