I feel like it all depends on which NICU you work at. Im in a Level 3 NI with 84 beds. There are days when it's slow, then others where i dont get to sit down. It does get repetitve with the diagnosis you see but the learning never stops. Im just now getting to the point where i can anticipate what will happen next and what i need to look out for. Ive been in NICU for a year now and love it! I hope your new job will bring you joy:)
84 beds? Wow. Good for you that you like it.
@KayDejaVu yeah lol 84. We never go on divert either so sometimes we have to open nurseys in mother baby for our nicu babies. I think 95 was our highest census this year. Right now we have 62 as census

Thank you so much! I’m actually a rotating employee. We do 2 month stretches of each on my unit so I’ll be nights in Aug

@@mrs.lavenderbsnrn3336I can’t even say honestly. I like both for different reasons. Days goes by faster bc so much to do & nights is chill but dragssss
@@kyahsimoneeYeah, I can see the pros and cons of both. I’m worried that during night shift I won’t be able to think as clearly and accurately as I would during days. I’m afraid of how I will handle the lack of adequate sleep.

I reaaaallly needed to hear your story! I’m at NICU fresh new grad and have the worst post shift anxiety and have been dreaming about going back to adults but was scared it would be worse
Aw I’m so glad to hear could help, but very sorry you feel that way. Trust me I know!! People also don’t understand bc the NICU is such a dream for most. I would say possibly give it time to give yourself a chance to adjust, but if the feeling doesn’t go away, trust yourself and do what you think is best. It’s definitely scary and a chance to take but I am so so glad I did. I’m much happier.
all of your reasons to leave the nicu made me want to work in the nicu as a nurse even more 😭 hope you find what works for you 💗

Girlll I’m trying to leave my adult cardio stepdown unit for NICU 🤣 & NICU is one of those specialties you either love it & stay for years or hate it. Definitely give us updates on how you’re liking your new unit!

My class hated clinicals. We felt like we were working for free instead of gaining nursing experience. I was already a CNA....every clinical we did was based around being a CNA instead of doing more advanced nurse actions. One instructor only allowed us to watch and follow physical therapy around all day as if we were there as PT students. That whole thing was pointless. Glad that's over.
Yeah my experience was similar too when I first started clinical, but it got better especially during my L&D and Peds clinical
