    Matt, there is a site, "Zero Friction Cycling" which tests different bicycle chain lubricants on a contract basis. The host, Adam Kerin, has also trsted straight factory grease and paraffin candle wax. There are a variety of approaches involving trade offs between intensity and frequency of cleaning vs lubricant choice. Nothing is faff-free, and Adam's test methods have some limitations, but he would be a good person to contact. FYI the bicycling community has a lot of foks who are reflexively pro- or anti-wax without understanding limitations of evidence for their respective positions.

    on the aussie breakdancer, there are a couple of caveats. 1) her "academic" is on the unscientific range of academics 2) she insulted the breakdance culture - due to her not being able to reach the heights someone needs to reach - with her "academic works". 3) it was pure sponsoring via a single city (otherwise no one would have voted her in). 4) her skills are subpar at best, so it is neither ridicule nor bullying. at best its overestimation of her skills on her part (and thats the nicest way of saying it). 5) last but not least, this was not even close to "giving it your all". even without comparing her to other olypiads like simone biles.

    My favorite digit is 3, maybe because I always write them with a flat top and that stroke is so satisfying. I don't really like 2s much. Oh, and I love text figures ("lower-case" digits), and prefer them in running text or prose, especially when they match a good crisp serif font where they are used. Not only are upside-down 8s very annoying, upside down 6s and 9s are likewise (in some fonts you can tell)

    I love bikes and obsess over chain lubrication. Picking the correct lubricant can save you so much money. I am glad to hear about bikes anywhere. Zero Friction Cycling has a channel that talks about chain lubrication/drive train efficiency, sorry Matt someone beat you to the punch. Their website also has a public dataset comparing different lubrications in dry and wet conditions. If you like excel sheets and nerdy data it is a fun place to spend an afternoon.

  • @AkiSan0
    @AkiSan0 2 месяца назад

    grease the chain with heavy grease (not lube nor wax) and unless you are in a REALLY dirty environment (like dusty deserts, muddy mountains, filthy forests and such.), i.e. city biking, you do not need to clean the chain - ever. doesnt care about rain, doesnt care about sun, doesnt care about light dirt. doesnt care about heavy gear switching. if you are not a fan of ruining your white dress, you can use something like graphene based lubes, but with a proper chain guard, thats just unnecessary.

    • @AkiSan0
      @AkiSan0 2 месяца назад

      the big con is ofc its not "clean" looking, though depends on your grease type and color / cover. what you dont see, dont need to look good. and this is for normal-people-bikes. no e, no high speed, no special outdoor. normal, everyday use. as for the "but it might increase friction" argument: nah. on normal bikes, more friction is generated by your tires (ofc. heavily depending on your type) and the gears / tire axis. the chain itself adds practically nothing.

    • @mytube001
      @mytube001 2 месяца назад

      That's just not true. The metal-on-metal grinding will wear out a chain. Even perfectly lubricated and kept in a dust-free environment. It will take longer, but it will wear. And with the wear, it will elongate and eventually ride too high on the sprockets and start to fall off or jump, which can be disastrous if it happens at the wrong time.

    Speaking of bicycle chains, they don't last very long. They will "work" forever, but should be replaced surprisingly often. Before there's a problem.

    • @AkiSan0
      @AkiSan0 2 месяца назад

      depends on your chain type and your usage. a heavy chain on a citybike is practically unbreakable. a superlight on a dirt / mountain bike, might need to be replaced / checked like twice a year.

    I liked and sort of embraced Pythagoras and the basic trigonometry. It's so hands-on and actually useful sometimes. (Maybe more emphasis should be put on making the students *familiar* with different corners of math, so that they are likely to go there with some onfidence later.)

  • @AustinSersen

    I love the bicycle topics! I run my own bike repair shop out of my garage, and almost none of my customers properly lubricate their chain. It's good for business though, because when people ride their bike again for the first time after servicing, it feels like a totally new bike to them, and I get good reviews!

      23:28 there is no YT-channel "Will It Lube", but basically what they are describing is the channel "Zero Friction Cycling" which compares many different lubes with extensive tests that are as close to real world as possible while still being repeatable. He often gets quite chatty, but the website is very good when you look for some good lubes (and yes: all top spots are claimed by wax). I have to confess that I still use a wet-lube, but after I had a lot of troubles with some well known brand (that he also had quite bad results in his tests), I switched to a brand that fared well in his tests and the difference is night and day for the intervals in which I have to clean&lube. So recommendation: If you don't want the hassle of waxing your chain (I know it supposedly isn't as bad as it sounds), at least buy yourself a good wet lube!
