I was once told to give up art by an art teacher
Просмотров 4 тыс.Месяц назад
I once let others' words steer me away from my childhood dream of becoming an artist and illustrator. I gave up on it because I was told I'd never make it, I didn't have enough talent. Though I still regret not standing up for myself back then, I’ve decided not to let those hurtful experiences define my future. I wanted to share my struggle with impostor syndrome, feeling out of place, and the ...
Summer studio cleaning & makeover

My art studio (aka just a corner!) looked quite plain and needed a little refresh, so I'm attempting to give this art space a cozy makeover. Hopefully, my poor decoration skills and random o...

Another delightful video. Flowers of Copenhagen and flowers on your blouse, neat. Great postcard sketches en plein cafetería, rather than en plein air 🤔. I have not tried the German Schneider fineliner Pictus pens, they flow well. I am still use Rotring technical pens with Indian Ink in small visual diaries with fine textured paper that causes slight bleeding, a creature of habit unfortunately.

Beautiful pencils that ooze a tactile quality making you just want to handle them. The store design is a classic Swiss grid design, rectangular areas housing each a different product. And of course not all the grids have items in them and are left as negative space, along with other negative spaces. A design that also emphasises the exclusivity and quality of the stock. Thanks for the video it was a pleasure to see the store.

Thank you so much for this! ❤ English tip: 'stuff' is uncountable, so you can only use it in the singular or say 'too much stuff'. Hope that helps. Lots of people struggle to use 'stuff' correctly. 🙂 Similar with 'staff'. An individual is 'a member of staff', whereas 'staff' itself is kind of a collective, plural noun. But still uncountable. Wish I spoke any foreign language as well as you do English, you're amazing! 👌🏻🫶🏻

Acryla gouache was 454¥ at Sekaido, and between 300-400 at Holbein 😊 But if you count the effort of coming all the way here... 😂

@@pawshire 454y sounds like the 40ml (currently it's 484y in sekaido) but you bought 20ml, which is 264y versus 300y at holbein. I guess i will buy my stash at sekaido then :)

I was told by my middle school art teacher that I could never be a real artist, so as an HSP, I was crushed. I didn’t pursue painting again until 2020 when I was 71. Don’t listen to anyone, including the voices in your head. I now am too old to care what anyone thinks. I draw and paint for me. Have you read The Aritist’s Way by Julia Cameron? If not, do yourself a favor and read it and do the exercises she offers in her twelve week course in this book. Your art is lovely. ❤

I am struggling with this too, in my watercolor painting and violin. I feel like i lose value as a human being if those are not going well, I have had to start asking myself " in my art, am i seeking something life-giving? ' that helps me convince myself not to stop, and to focus on the feeling of life it gives to me. thank you so so much for sharing your inner struggles with us, it helps me feel less alone in this, your art, and others can greatly better the world.

The wall of pigments! I feel like a kid all over again. I have never seen anything like this before and yes "otherworldly" as you so eloquently commented. When I was a child, my parents during the holidays would get me art supplies as gifts. I remember being so excited about using various methods and it stuck with me my entire life. I go through so many tubes of paint and probably average around 360 paintings produced a year from small paintings to large paintings. My studio can get very messy at times when I get on a groove of getting five to six paintings done in a few days, I have no time to stop when I'm in that groove and then it settles down. I work in waves like tides of water. I don't know why that is?. I spent my entire commercial art career under deadlines to get work done and so that work ethic with me is the likely reason it carried over and into the fine art world as a painter. It's interesting how artists shift around. I'm sixty-four years old now and still have not lost any of the wonderment of creating art. It may be that I'm getting older and want no stone unturned. I still adore the creative discovery. I have dealt with a lot of sorrow of seeing family and friends pass away in the last several years and had a health scare of my own during covid. I feel there's a purpose of getting my work into people's homes and hearts. I like your work and it's heartfelt.
