Marry Me A Little – Katrina Lenk (Company)
Katrina Lenk as Bobbie performing Marry Me a Little, as part of the third Broadway revival of Company. Recorded at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Broadway.
This was the first performance after the 2022 Tony Award nominations were announced, where Company received nine nominations and a glaring snub in the Leading Actress category. Immediately following this performance was the infamous "Chris Harper pays my salary" talkback. An eventful night of theatre all around.

HEATHER HEADLEYS HANDS
There were several dozen people interviewed by Susan Lacy for her documentary and the tapes are online (type in American Masters Leonard Bernstein.) She is the sole interviewer and she does a very fine job, having studied up her Bernstein.
Who is this Eurydice and Orpheus?
Does anyone know what date this video was taken? This is the exact cast I saw and I saw the show toward the end of Andre’s run so I’m wondering if it could possibly be the show I attended
I'm so glad I managed to see this production in Los Angeles.
I love you for posting this
When I fell in love with his talent in "She Loves Me' I looked forward to following his career for many, many years. There will be no one to replace his moves, his voice, his ability to outshine the stars. I am sorry for myself but hope he is receiving the reward he deserves for the joy he has given to so many of us very lucky people. I will look for which star is yours in the night sky. Thank you so much for the happiness I shared watching you.
She can be in the new production of Sunset Boulevard on broadway.
Katrina’s interpretations of this song is one of the only ones that made me internalize how sad this song is. Can’t wait to see what she does next.
The direction in this song is actually insane. I love it so much. This video has inspired me to go to the library and watch the full recording; I've only listened to the recording a few times. Also, Rachel Bay Jones is an absolute star. Love her.
So wonderful seeing this again. Staging's just as astounding as it was the first time, and getting to pay attention to all the little character moments is a joy.
ahead of its time, right on time
I am so so happy, hope to see more soon!
This is a Sondheim parody, right? 😉
This show is so damn modern, it’s a shame sondheim isnt immortal so he could keep commenting on our sick sad world
Okay so the thing that bugs me most about this show's music is that it's the most Sondheim sounding music of all time. I know how that sounds, he's literally the Bard of Broadway. But what I mean is like musically he didn't do anything new. The sound is him but he didn't take any risks with styles, or tones really. Im far from musically educated enough to put this in more specific words wth the music. But for me it just sounds generically Sondheim. Besides plot-wise, if you take this song and throw it into Company, into the woods, or even Follies, it would not sound out of place.
huge disagree here. the musical palette here is not even remotely adjacent to *anything* you hear in ITW or Follies, and while Here We Are is a more socially modern/urban score i would argue it sounds completely out of step in Company as well
@@themusicalspeakeasy2439 fr fr none of sondheim’s scores are THIS percussion heavy.
@ well even then, that’s a Tunick thing rather than Sondheim specifically - but that also contributes hugely to it feeling like a whole new landscape
Sondheim himself said that you don’t produce things as well creatively after you’re 50, he was really old writing this, so don’t expect anything crazy new!
Wow!!!!!
Many interviews, of course awesome, but every one he is scratching that d**** beard😊
I saw the show the day before the 2020 shutdown, and again in early 2022 - she grew into this role in LEAPS and bounds, both acting and performance wise. Would've loved to see some more awards recognition for her brilliant work
could not agree more
I saw the show twice, but only now can I finally appreciate what’s wrong with this song, and it’s got nothing to do with the music (not like I would ever bad mouth Sondheim). It’s the staging. We’re trying to introduce the audience to a group of rich, materialistic people, and there are no props or materials for them to use to portray this. The whole first act is fairly minimalist, and this is the exact opposite show for that kind of production. I’m curious if anybody else has thoughts on this song or the show as a whole.
i didn't read the description and thought this was a rehearsal video at first... you're super on the money here
obviously Joe Mantello was trying to say something about the first act not having a set or props, so it really comes down to subjective opinion on that choice. I see what you’re saying but I think there’s also a lot in little. Interesting how the first act has minimal sets and props and LOTS of music, and the second act has the inverse. This show has so much to ponder, it really is one of Sondheim’s most sophisticated and intellectual shows. also big shoutout David Ives for an amazing script
Hard disagree. This song’s lack of props or set allows the audience’s imagination to fire in all cylinders but also creates a central focus on sondheim’s words and music which are rich, complex and funny. Likewise, the minimalism allows for the absurdist style to really fly because this whole time we have to imagine that theyre all in a car together lmao
If I were to rationalize the direction and counter that critique: The first act is the gang trying to find a place to eat that will enable their rich and indulgent lifestyle. But those plans are consistently thwarted at each restaurant. The mansion staff are gone, Cafe Everything has nothing, Bistro À La Mode tries to remind them how everything is, in other words, their sad reality, and etc. And this is all because their world is being brought to an end. So, the bare, minimalist set can represent the characters being deprived of their familiar luxuries. The mirrors and the minimalism can also put focus on how self-absorbed and egotistical the characters are, bringing all the audience's attention only to them. Pretty much only their characters, these mutual friends, and the restaurants bring life and color to this otherwise bleak and bare world. Once their rich lifestyle is finally fufilled by the start of Act 2, the embassy's room emerges in all its "familiar" grandure and detail, heavily contrasting with Act 1's minimalism. The scale and lack of songs paint their lifestyle as lavish but joyless. Their lives then spirals into ruin as the characters are confronted with an seemingly inescapable moment where neither their needs or wants are met, giving them time only to confront their issues.
adding to this convo - i don't think personally i need it to be hyper-literalized to understand that these are people who are profoundly privileged - their clothing and their demeanour does all the work for me there. i'd also push back that there isn't any set - the white walls, the space on the sides of the playing area, and the walls at the top of the number/sign at the end of the number are both indications of set pieces that help tell the story. it's an absurdist musical referencing absurdist source material, and so i assume a bit of impressionistic sweeps are going to be involved in that!
Been searching for this bootleg forever! Do u happen to have the full show?
🎉🎉
I think she's brilliant and was wonderful in this role!!!!
I've never understood the criticism Katrina attracted for this role, especially for her singing - just because she mixes more than she belts doesn't mean she doesn't sound lovely doing it.
Thank you so so much. I'm so glad to get to see at least a tiny bit of this production...any chance of any more..? :))))
There is a video of the whole production on RUclips under the title “old friends slime tutorial”

This is such a beautiful version of the song. So powerful yet vulnerable. The world lost an amazing star.
Great choreography...love it..
Pretty sure the original broadway cast was back in the 70s, this is a revival.
it's the original cast of "Bob Fosse's Dancin'", which is an entirely different show than Dancin' was.
If only there was a revival of the whole show….
1:49:48 WHAT?!? How have I never seen or heard that before. Of Course! of Course!

So sad about Gavin. So young. But, also thanks for another video for my Jordan Danica collection.

I'm still in shock and utterly devastated. RIP to an absolute titan and one of the most charismatic tenors I've ever seen, who was all around a nice guy. Was fantastic in this role, the Wolf, and as Cornelius Hackl in the Midler Hello Dolly revival.
Gavin was so wonderful. He is greatly missed. I liked him in Book of Mormon.

Did colm stay for the whole performance and played an ensemble member or was it just for the bishop scene?

Isn't it remarkable how a genius like Sondheim sounds so matter-of-fact when what he created artistically is some of the best music and songs written in the 20th and 21st centuries?
