If you love fountain pens and inks, this is for you.
Welcome to onemorepen where I provide first impressions and reviews of different fountain pens and inks. I focus on the everyday writing experience of the average person. Of course there are many really expensive pens and inks out there, and that is great if you can afford it. But you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a great pen and enjoy your writing; fountain pens are for everyone, and in my channel I review those pens and inks that the everyday person (and occasional fountain pen fanatic) might enjoy.

Parker Reflex Fountain Pen Review

In this video I review the Parker Reflex Fountain Pen, a pen that was produced between 2000 and 2007. This pen has some similarities to the Parker Vector and although I initially has some issues with the nib, I was able to resolve that and now this pen is an excellent daily writer. The ink is Parker Quink Washable Blue. I am also inviting all suggestions for a new "series" of videos in which I ...

Jinhao (Copy of Lamy Safari) REVIEW
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
In this video I review a pen I believe to be a Jinhao, although it has no Jinhao branding. This pen is a close copy of the Lamy Safari and sells for much cheaper, but upon closer inspection the differences between this pen and the real Lamy Safari becomes apparent. For the writing sample, I use Iroshizuku Yama Budo.

In this video I take a quick look at another cheap pen - the Carioca Neon. This pen was recently purchased in Mauritius by a friend while travelling and he kindly shared it with the channel. This pen has an interesting nib and although I struggle a little to g...

Lamy Safari Violet Blackberry First Impressions
There is quite a lot of ink on the nib. Is that how it should be? Good video, again. 👍
Yes, no problem at all. I think that was just from when I filled it and probably didn't wipe the nib clean properly.
Thanks for video, does the pen original M nib, it seems that it has some line variations and I really liked it. Another question, does it skip or hard start if you don't use it for several days. I have Parker IM and it skips sometimes and has hard start if I don't use it for 2-3 days. If the nib is original factory made and doesn't have skipping and hard start, this one will be my nex pen.
My XL came in a medium. I would not try to get line variation from it. I have 3 of them, and one of the three skips a little, the other 2 are perfect and they don't dry out quickly. My IM also dries very quickly, unless you use it every day. It's a pity that my one XL skips a bit, so I don't use that one much. But there other two are excellent writers and I love them. You can also check out the Waterman Allure - basically the same pen, but you pay more for the branding. I have one in a fine.
Only love for the Vector. Use one since 14 years. Never let me down. ❤
Thanks for the video!! My first two fountain pens in high school in the 80s were a Safari in Charcoal and a Parker Vector in stainless steel. Both lost due to my many moves. This year I just repurchased the Vector but found it on eBay from India in a Fine nib. As you said, Parker does have some quality issues with these pens. There was some play between the barrel and a plastic sleeve that lined the barrel that you could feel when you wrote. The nib was scratchy not due to the fine point but it seemed to have a burr. I was able to shim a piece of paper between the sleeve and barrel and spent a couple of hours tubing the nib and it now writes nicely!! No regrets though. For nostalgia, I love having this pen in my collection and I do like the pen. It’s very simple and clean. I also only paid around $10 ($14 CDN) and it came in a blister pack with a Parker key chain and gift box.
I love Parker IM Vibrant Rings. I have 2. Excellent writers. Greetings from Belgium.
love Parker vector
Nice video. I assume the Vector is the model that came after the classic Parker 25? (I heard that the designer Kenneth Grange died a few months ago.)
That's interesting, I'm not 100% sure about whether it is the one that came after the Parker 25, but it has a long history going back to the early 80's. I still have two unopened Vectors, probably from around late 80's or early 90's. Guess I have to open them some time.
I remember buying this as a kid. I also bought the Sheaffer No-Nonsense fountain pens. These could be purchased at drug stores, grocery stores, etc
Yes, me too! I had a Jotter, Vector and two No-Nonsense Sheaffers - which I still have. Good times.
oh nice, I have the metallic blue n black one, still like using it :)
These pens last forever and they are just beautiful
こんにちは ♪ 。The pen looks like it writes very well.👍
Yes, it is a great writer.
Thanks for this
You are very welcome.
I have an 80, and like it well -- and was thinking as well that I'd like to put a Lamy stub nib onto it. I don't generally post pens for writing, but I do like to post the 80. My only concern is to wonder how well the plastic will hold up over time. If the pens remain available at so low a price, perhaps that won't matter anyhow. I might add that your remark at the end, that you now are viewing the Lamy 2000 in a better light because of this Jinhao, is why makers of high end pens should not worry that Chinese imitations are successful. That said, my Wing Sung/Jun Lai 630 with a 14K nib is so good that why would I pay hundreds more just to get a white "snow cap"?
Thank you for commenting. Yes, ultimately I think we should be less concerned with the brands and just enjoy the pens.
I used these all during childhood as a student. It was mandatory to use these in our school from Grade 6 onwards. The price to quality ratio of these is excellent if not the best. Pakistan's stationery industry is one the best for its affordability and quality.
Lovely little writer.
Either a vacuum filler or Japanese eyedropper fill (Opus 88s) can shut off the air pressure change, so are completely safe to fly.
If someone has the Prelude in stock as fountain pen it would be Appelboom. I do have the rollerballpoint Prelude myself in white/gold
Yes, Preludes are still available. They are re-releasing the original ink colors
Found a variety of models on Amazon. Nice looking pens.
Oh that's excellent. I will have to keep an eye out for them.
Sheaffer nibs are lovely, especially the tubular ones.
All information are true and you have covered it 360 degrees about this pen. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing and making us aware!
I also have one in black. I used to like it. Mostly because - although the nib makes it more similar to the Vector as you stated - it reminds me the Parker 45. Unfortunately the plastic cracked.
Yes it is a pity that the build of the pen does not live up to its potential. It's fun to use, but you know it won't last forever.
Thank you for your beautiful, calming voice.
love this model , Im using 4 of them since year 2002 every day, very robust model, indestructible!
I remember those at 15 euro, at 30-40 that i found some blue color nowadays, there are certainly better pens to buy. The rubberized grip wears off through time even if you don't use it alot, making bubbles like the frontier.
Great video?
Drying out is a fatal flaw for me. Thanks for the video!
There is a good video from "Technology Connections" on why brown is just a dark orange called "Brown; color is weird".
I've been using 5 different 4001 inks and I love them.
I should get the red and mix black into it 🤔
The Green or Brown are really nice if you mix Black with them.
That's an interesting idea, I will definitely try it.
Great idea! I have the red and the black, never thought of mixing them. This could be the start of something really interesting. Thanks!
So sorry. I had that happen with a Sailor Lecoule pen that I ordered from Amazon. The first came with a cartridge inserted! Replacement was use , and I had three attempts to finally get a new pen. So sad. 😢
Does this come with a medium nib or fine nib?
I'm not sure, but I've only seen them in a medium nib so far.
I have this pen, but the matte black version, which I think looks even better, it doesn't post if you just push it, but if you turn/twist it on slightly, it will, try that.
Hey thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.
How does this compare to Lamy Allstar...??
They are both very nice pens and good value for money. The Parker nibs tend to be a little broader, so you get really juicy inkflow. The Parker is perhaps slightly heavier, it is also a metal pen. With the AL star you have the option to swop nibs easily. Ultimately it is a matter of preference. I prefer the Vector.
Asvine P36 u shoul check as alternative
Thanks. I don't have an Asvine yet, but its on my list.
@@onemorepen I like every TWSBI because their nibs are great.
Just bought the same pen on sale, only with the completely opposite nib, a fine. A good sign that you enjoyed it.
Nice pen, but it's very expensive for piece of plastic))
Yes I agree, they are not cheap compared to other entry level pens
Hello. Thank you for your video. I made a swatch card for the Pelikan 4001 Blue / Black yesterday. What I saw on paper is very close to what I see on your video. Not blue / black, but blue blue blue / black. It’s a nice color and I’ve loaded it in a Pelikan M800. I’ll go to another brand for the classic blue / black I want.
I think Diamine Blue Black is worth checking out, also Sheaffer has a nice Blue Black.
Oo, I have this pen. It writes very nice, but the frame is plastic and it can be broken very. P.S. perhaps I have some mistakes because I am from Russia and my English isn't brilliant))
Your English is fine. The Jotter does come in 2 versions, with plastic barrel or metal barrel. The plastic is quite cheap and does not feel like good quality, but the metal barrel, a little more expensive, is VERY nice.
@onemorepen I know that there are two versions, but in Russia, Parker Jotter with metal barrel is so expensive. You can buy Vector instead of metal Jotter. Sorry for my tactlessness, but I really need some expert's opinion. I want to buy a Parker fountain pen, and I'm choosing between IM and Vector. Is it worth paying extra for IM?
Well I am not an expert, but I can tell you what I think. The IM is very nice but it has issues with drying out quickly. I would go with the Vector, it is a beautiful pen and a joy to use. @@historicinterest
Thank you
Hello from Russia! I want to buy fountain pen like a present for New Year and your review has helped me to choose the pen. Thank you!
I love Cosmo's half-stache 😊❤
I have them in all colors, they are cute desk pens for quick easy writing. The one i have aligns fine after closing.
They are awesome little pens.
I couldn’t get ANY search hits on Jinhao 25. But apparently in the US (or at least on US Amazon) it is the Jinhao 248. Other AliExpress regions it comes up as the 24 or 166. Go figure 😂
I couldn't get any either, but when I ordered it feom Temu it was listed as a Jinhao 25.
The cat wins!!!
Always...
Question: does it or all fountain pens leak if you leave them nib down
No fountain pen should leak nib down, and none of mine do. If it does, probably something wrong, maybe cracked somewhere.
I have been enjoying the low cost fountain pen reviews, i wonder if you might consider review the Herlitz my.pen? I believe it is marketed as a school pen in the EU. Herlitz makes more than on model, the one i like looks quite a bit like a Waterman Carene, a much more costly pen. It comes in several colors, but the most elegant is black pen with white rubber grip. I can not seem to add photo to comments?
Looks very interesting, but I don't know how I would get one of these, I can't find it anywhere at my local or even online suppliers. I am based in South Africa. I will keep an eye out for this one though.
@@onemorepen i am going to order one, if they have some good deals on black friday? If the deals are good enough, maybe i could send you one to review. I am in the USA, amazon has them here and some german retailers also plus ebay.
ruclips.net/video/wbkMeLkr8zY/видео.htmlsi=Vg1ZEAD1zmH_daMc This is the model!....about the only review i could find. I like the shape of the pen.
Nice review, i thought somewhere i saw someone put a Kaweco sport clip on there pilot kakuno? They are sold seperate, but test if you have a kaweco sport before ordering.
Thanks, I haven't tried that yet, and I have some Kaweco clips - good idea!
greetings from Malaysia, "apa khabar" as we say in Malaysia for how are you. I'm Fergus Lim, I have a Jinhao 25 and it's one of my favourite designs from the Jinhao brand. the barrel from both the Kakuno and Jinhao is interchangeable. on the whole it feels like a Pilot Kakuno. :)
Apa khabar. This is my first EF nib and it started a little dry, but the more I use it the more I like it. It actually really well now, and the pen impresses me for such a low price.
@onemorepen I am well, tq, since the nib is similar to a Lamy design, I changed mine with a Lamy Fine and it writes like a dream... I dont like the EF from the original.
@@ferguslimhm8311 Usually an EF is too fine for me, but I have been using this pen today and I am just super impressed with it. I have some spare Lamy nibs, but I might just keep this one on for now. By the, if I swopped it, it would be with a Lamy stub 1.1, I love those.
I'm a big fan of Diamine Blue Velvet.
I still need to get a bottle
My experience with Jinhao pens and travelling wasn't great either... I would just save some more and get either a Lamy or a Preppy, they can be found for cheap and are much more reliable in my experience.
I have some pens for bottled ink but on air travels I only take cartridge pens with me. My Twsbi Diamond 580 was heavily leaking after a flight. Then I decided to only use small International cartridges.
Sounds like a plan. Although, my Lamy had a converter and no leaks. But certainly some pens are more prone to leaking on a flight.
@onemorepen I think my twsbi has had some prblems before but I don't want to take any chances and travel only with the tiny cartridges. 😊
@@norissima95 Actually that sounds like a good plan
I had two demonstrator JinHao DaDao 9019 pens. I filled them with J. Herbin Éclat Saphir ink. I gave one to a friend, an author, so he could have a nice pen for book signings. He is not a fountain-pen user. He put it in his inner jacket pocket and it leaked into the cap, just with his usual walking around. He was alarmed, and did not want to use it, and gave it back. The other one has also leaked into its cap and stained the cap. I like the JinHao DaDao 9019 pens, but they are not for travel or even for carrying around. At another event, I gave him a HongDian C1 with the same ink, and he loved it. I have traveled with Wing Sung 601s and a 618 with no problems--though on the airplane I keep them in a zip-lock bag. They also wrote flawlessly mid-flight in reduced pressure. (I like vintage Parker 51 and 61 hooded-nib pens and Parker 51-derived pens and the Wing Sung 601s are my workhorse pens.)
I really enjoy using the Jinhao 9019, even thinking of getting the clear demonstrator model, but as you say, they are for the desk and not the pocket.
piston mechanism is the problem may me, u can try it with cartridge..?
I love your black cat logo. I don't know whether I have a cartridge that will fit, but will definitely try it out next time. Thanks.
@@onemorepen cats we like :) others told that it works with international cartridge? isnt it true?
It probably does, but because the converter is so big, I have never checked. This is also a screw-in converter and maybe it just wasn't tightened enough, because I am careful about overtightening and then cracking the plastic.
@onemorepen hope it will work with standard cartilage and never cause a problem for u again in flight trips 🤞
