In this first of a series of Lamy Safari Reviews, I take a closer look at the Lamy Vista and do a writing sample with Diamine Celadon Cat ink, using a broad nib.
I think I might can explain the odd choice for the "window" on the Vista. They more than likely use the same mold for both and to save money they just change the plastic/resin colors without having to make an entirely new mold for the barrel. I bought a Lamy Al-Star a couple of months ago and it writes pretty well but Platinum is fast becoming my favorite brand. I splurged and bought a 3776 and damn it's amazing.
My Vista is around 13 y.o. by now, it's barrel and cap are yellowed out but the section is as clear as new. Some time ago I ordered some spare parts from AliExpress and found a transparent feeder which fitted nicely, now my Vista is totally clear 😎 When you can't see the holes in your letters it's time to get a finer nib, exactly what happened to you in the writing sample is why I don't like broader nibs, even most M are too wide for me, of course, having a tiny handwriting doesn't help either 😂 Cats are the best fountain pen connoisseurs, one more reason to prefer them over dogs 😅
The Rollerball barrel, which doesn't have windows, fits the Vista. Easy enough job to put a blob of transparent glue on the safety 'breather' hole in the end to seal it.
I've only recently got into this hobbby and I have a question. Why is everyone so fond of eyedropper pens? To me it's as we would say "six of one, half dozen of the other".
Many people ask for it mainly because of much more ink capacity instead of normal methods (cartridge, converter, piston fillers). Personally i don't have what to write, so it takes me weeks to empty a cartridge, but i like to see the whole body inked and the ink moving inside, so i like eyedropped demonstrators. Basically i like demonstrators only if they can get eyedropped, and eyedropers only if they are demonstrators. I don't like at all to see a cartridge or a converter, or any other mechanism inside a clear demonstrator and i don't care if a pen can be eyedropped when i can't see the ink.
Not me, we all have different needs and for me, the less ink the better. Reason? My handwriting is tiny, so I need finer nibs and less ink. With eyedroppers or vacuum filling systems my pens could spend (literally) years inked. The other important reason is that my ink (and pen) collection is huge (+- 130 so far of both), so, I like to rotate them as much as possible.
You are absolutely right ! Wish lamy made a new version of vista, sealed, so people could eyedrop it... But since safari and vista is a school oriented fountain pen and since lamy wants to sell cartridges, i don't think they will ever made that... We can only hope for it, maybe one day, if we make an online petition, i am sure many lamy safari fans want this. Lamy vista eye 👁🗨 is a nice name and since mitsubishi uni has now bought the lamy is a nice compo cause uni-ball eye rollerball is i think the their most popular product. Nice hat btw !!

I love it. I did two eyedropper conversions on it. Not without its issues but for the price I can't complain.
Cosmo, like his person, had an adorable mustache 😊. Thanks for the updated reviews of your Lamy pens.
Love cats in the videos. Cosmo is a beautiful cat.
And he knows it...
@@onemorepen And I am happy for him.😃

Wow, that's a great idea. I don't have a rollerball but will keep it in mind. Thanks!
You make a good point in a way, there.
It's a Vista after all not a Translucent Safari and yes a eyedropper will be cool.
