In this video we'll demonstrate the installation of the Winnebago Solis Hitch Reinforcement Contraption by Landed Gear. According to Landed Gear, the Winnebago Solis Hitch Reinforcement Contraption will reduce bounce/displacement when you use a bike rack, storage box, etc. It allows the hitch to take more of a load, but the van/suspension would be the limiting factor, so it's very important NOT...

Sea Kayaking to the USS Yorktown World War 2 Aircraft Carrier
Hi Jason, it’s 2 years later, we’ve had our Solis for 2 years now and still love it. Do you still own yours? If not have you chosen a new van or are you done with van life?
Thank you for your detailed feedback. You mentioned traveling with your family. Would this fit a husband, wife and 2 full grown teenagers in your opinion? Oh, and maybe our dog too. Trying to figure what is best without getting something that is cumbersome to park or take into town while traveling.
@@David-hb9co it would definitely be a tight fit with all of your crew. We carry a tent for our teenagers while camping if the whole family goes. If the weather gets bad, then we can cram in to sleep. But ideally, this is a 1 to 2 person setup, as far as comfortable van living. I hope this helps. Thanks, Jason
Thank you so much for your video! Helped me with my decision to buy one ! I’m in South Carolina too!!
@@auntbeck9447 That’s awesome! I hope you have many safe adventures! 😀
Can we install a motor??
@@mousababboud9308 you would have to get pretty creative! Have a great day! 👍
Thanks for the honest review!
@@francesnance9110 Thank you! Have a wonderful day! 😀
Thanks for the review, what’s the mpg of the van?
@@OKFrax-ys2op just got back from Colorado and we averaged 16 mpg. Thanks!
Nomad 50 = 50 watts?? lol maybe in the Sahara Desert at Noon. It's blatant false advertising......
Great video and seems to be consistent among owners that even with the few items that need some help, everyone would do it again. We currently have a blank Sprinter 4x4 2500 tall van, but no longer have the time to DIY or want to do so. We are hoping that we may be able to sell it and without too much extra investment, get a Solis. How would you say it handles over rougher gravel roads/climbs? My only concern is the clearance if we try to get off the pavement. Nothing too technical, but we have definitely used out 4x4 in the Sprinter before. Cheers!
@@terrabjames we’ve taken it on dirt/gravel more than a few times and it has handles well. I have never pushed the limits on really technical roads though. I’m always conscious of it’s limitations. Have a good day!
Thank you so much loved this video
@@mercedescastro2912 Thank you so much! 👍😀
Do you find it a pain to have the water hose city connection inside and cannot hook up outside as in other RVs? I saw on another video about the Solis that you either have the water house sticking out of the non closed doors or fill it and then use your water pump and not have the water hose sticking out the back. Great video. I am looking to buy in a few years but the Solis seems to have what I want. I agree with lithium and inverter. Thank you.
@@kerrylewis1325 We don’t use that much water when where camping as we try to utilize the campsite facilities if they’re available. I could see it being an issue for some folks, but not for us. Thanks for watching and the comment. Have a good one! 👍
I’ve been crunching numbers on doing both a van and camper build out…conclusion i’ve come to is it is much cheaper to buy a completed vehicle.
@@KeywordManagement I don’t doubt that especially the price for materials has increased over the last few years. Good luck on your hunt! Have a good one.👍

Hello, I just bought a portable AC for my small RV and I have a generator and I’m thinking of using my portable AC but do you recommend for me to connect my 30 amp to the generator directly or should I just plug-in my portable AC to the generator with an extension cord?
@@claudes1973 I don’t think it will matter if the AC’s power cord is long enough to allow the generator to be a safe distance from the RV. Just be sure to allow for proper ventilation with both the generator and AC exhaust and you’ll be good to go! Have a great day! 👍

License plate is blocked partially. Is it ok?
@@bopark824 I haven’t run across any issues as of yet. But yes, a direct straight view it is partially obscured. Thanks for the question. They do sell a plate kit if you want to change the location of your plate.
I was considering this model for solo vanlife, but I found several negative reviews about it. Also, because the space in a van is so small, having more than one person living in it reduces its shelf life.
@@Jesusislord-y4l sounds like you may need a bigger RV! Not sure how the size of a van or reduces its shelf life, but hey you might know something about shelf life that no else knows. Have a fantastic day!
Great video! I'm looking for a spare tire carrier solution for my Ford Transit 250 camper van. Unfortunately, the propane fill is located just under the rear bumper on the far right side. Can you measure the swing arm length, when closed, to see if it would clear my propane fill? Thanks!
@@EagleOne49 From the center of the hitch to the end of the swing arm when closed measures approximately 26 1/4”. I hope this helps! 👍
Im starting my van conversion and I don't want to make another hole on the roof .This is a very good alternative. Thank you, very helpful for my decision
@@themagicoffarinacci9303 Just a different option. For us it’s great, because we only need it a few months out of the year. And when we don’t need it, we just store it in the garage. Have a good one!
Any advice why portable ac I have stops blowing cold air after 2 minutes and starts blowing hot air back into the van? I have a 400 buck portable with a predator generator.
How is it holding up 3 years later?
@@borky1987 Still floats! It works just fine!
Does it feel alot better than an inflatable?
@@borky1987 Honestly, I have both and I just prefer the inflation. But a good quality one! Sometimes the locks can be a pain to snap and an inflatable will be lighter.
@@CarolinaCampervan Thanks man! I already own an inflatable (Gladiator Pro). I thought this would be superior in any way due to it being more rigid.
5 minutes into your video and you haven't even begun reviewing it. Fail. Moving on.

How much does this weigh? And do you know the differences between the series 1 and series 2
Not sure the difference between version 1 and 2, but mine weighs approximately 45 pounds. Thanks
That looks great Jason. What is the name of the windows you use?
Hi Gregg, we have another video that shows how I made the window vents, hope it helps.
Do you have an ac unit or portable unit for the real hot nights? We are looking at this exact van and my husband is concerend about AC
Hi, yes, check out this video- ruclips.net/video/FSr6Qv8yFyM/видео.html, we use it a few times a year, but really helped when we went to the keys last year ;) Happy Travels.
I'm a native South Carolinian, and i love our state so much...im going through a midlife "crisis" a want to hike the entire trail. Do you know if its completed? Basically i want to set put on foot and walk from one end of the state, all the way across and finish with my feet in the ocean lol
This may have already been mentioned, but I did not scroll through all the comments. One reason the water tank may bulge (not say this happened to you) is filling through the city pressure tank fill. If one does not turn off in time, the tank will quickly pressurize as the overflow can not handle the volume of pressurized inflow. And this pressure causes the tank to expand. Ask me how I know? Fortunately the tank I did this too had lots of space around it. It took quite a while for the water to quit draining through the overflow. A fun experiment would be to fill one of these tanks either the tank or a fitting failed. Thanks for the video. I am considering the 59PX non pop top as Van 2.0 after a good experiences in my Solis 36A. Solis 36A was perfect proof of concept camper van for me.
Thanks for the feedback, it may help others. We don't use it that way. Cheers and Happy Travels.
I am staying at babcock on Tuesday and will be scooting through the campground lol I can’t wait to leave. Leaving the beaches of Florida to the Mountains of WV
You are going to love it!
Great review! Thank you!
Thank you so much! Have a great day! 😀
Where does the water drain?
I just move it to the edge of the van where the sliding door is and drain it outside. It can go a few nights without the need to drain. Have a good one.
Oh, OK, thank you!
I know you posted this a while ago but I wanted to ask you about the SOlis model P. It does not have a roof AC correct? How is camping without an AC unit, especially when it gets hot?
Correct, the P with a pop top doesn't have a roof A/C. We purchased a portable unit at Costco and if we stay at a campground we plug into shore power. We found it pretty tough in the summer to sleep in the van. Especially living in the southeast US. Have a good one!
I am not doing the van life but the hatchback camping life lol. So the space is limited lol I want to get this for taking with instead of my bulky e bike. If I can get 10 mile range that would be awesome, thanks. No one else really gave the range in videos, only said what the box says. I don’t think I will need the full ten miles, but will be nice to have to zip around small towns and places I camp/hike. Safe travels!
You should be good, but they also sell an extended battery to increase the range. Not sure of the specs. Have fun and be safe!!
How do you power it in this video
We were plugged into shore power at a camp site. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching
Thank you for you video. Its very helpful. Has it held up well? Standard size has worked well? lots of questions I know. Any law enforcement issues will the license plate location?
We have not had any issues, we were a bit concerned about it covering up the license, but have been good so far.
Thank you that was much appreciated. I just bought a solace yesterday and would like to see more videos on it. We tried the shower last night, but couldn’t figure out how to get the water hot. Would love to see more solos videos, Where can I find them?
Ensure the propane is on, then select boost on the truma panel, wait about 10 minutes and that seems to work for us. The hot water only stores about 2 gallons, so use it sparingly.
Do you store the wet shower curtain inside the bathroom until it dries off?
We normally keep it outside until it dries
So water doesn't leak through?
It has not for us.
Thanks. Great video and very helpful. The Wilco website says that the XL is the only version that will fit the Solis, but you have a different version. Which version did you purchase? Standard?
That is correct. We purchased the standard. It swings wide enough so the van doors can open 90 degrees, but not much past that.
