Can you give me the specs of what you purchased and how you installed the privacy curtain?
Is the hours display for the generator on all the time? Is there a switch to turn off the electrical system entirely during storage?
Ford's are great but plagued with serious engine failures. It's a no for me.
Can you share the OCCC # on your RV as it came from the factory ?
Well done over all most folks are good just all about how you go about it and help to be help
One more thing your thoughts of a tandem bike fitting in the garage of your RV? Thank you
Not something we did but I believe it would fit. Just depends how tall it is.
Hi Sir looking to pick up a cross trail mid 2025 you said the changes from 2023 vs 2024 worth finding the 2024 for you do you know of any changes 2024 vs 2025 Thank you keep learning from you this will be our first RV enjoy all your adventures
I have not seen a 2025 in person but have seen a few videos and spoken to a few new owners. The changes seem to be minor. For example, the battery bank was mover from outside to under a bench seat. The kitchen window shade improved, and the propane tank moved.
Great job 2025 would like to buy a cross trail I like the one with the back door as we have a tandem bike we love and would like to take with us and other bike Thank you Sir.
Happy to help
Also good luck with the channel and keep growing it even do rv reviews of other rvs that seems to be a big thing for channels and for every video you do upload shorts of that same video. I say this cus I just got fully monetized this year it took me 2yrs going hard on videos and shorts. Proper tagging videos and keywords and time of day all play a factor. Start checking youtube studio or download the youtube studio app and see what times your viewers are online the most and post or schedule videos for those times. Good luck and keep making content I say all this with helpful intentions.
You are not wrong about any of your advice. Unfortunately our travels are on hold and the RV only comes out on the occasional weekend. We currently are carrying for 5 young foster children. Most with special needs. I barely have time to read comments.
I think out of most Rvs this is the one I would like to get. I like the 21XG because it has a back door and bed that flips up out the way but I love the elevator bed more and would prefer theater seats instead of a bench style seating. Also I head California and few other states are going to out law the sales of diesel and gas motor homes over a certain GVW. I guess dealerships and or manufactures was suppose to carry a % of EV Rvs lol but the tech and or its not cost effective to build but I guess there might be a law going into effect about that I'm not 100% sure on what is going on I just noticed no one is talking about it.
When these first came out, I thought I would like to 20xg best, but seeing them in person, there was no question we wanted the 21xg.
Are there locks for your garage doors and other outside compartments? You've done a great job. Whener you're ready to move on to a different motorhome, could i purchase this one from you? LOL
Yes and yes. We actually upgraded the locks to more secure ones.
No ladder on the back to get to the roof?
There is an attachment for a specific ladder. We bought it with the RV. It is the collapsible type with hooks at the top.
Awesome! Any chance you can do a link where you purchase your items, totes, plastic shelve on wall etc thank you
I have been trying to get Sherri to do that. No luck so far. We are currently caring for 5 young foster children, so pressing the issue would put me in the dog house we don't have.
We took the leap and purchased a 2024 Coachman Cross Trail Extreme 21XG yesterday, after finally finding one. I had a few questions & was going to PM you, but unfamiliar with Instagram, so will send this publicly since others may be interested. Do you have a link to purchasing the silver foil type of cab window coverings and the curtain track/curtains or material? I have a couple of concerns and wonder if you have a remedy, cab noise when driving, especially in the wind on the highway (sounds as if a window or vent is open, but it's not) and improving MPG on a non-AWD (10 MPG) with only about 2500 miles on it. Thanks for all the info you have shared.
I will have to get back to you on the track and curtains. The milage is very concerning. I didn't know you had an option of non AWD, and I know that negativity affects my MPG. Conditions like wind are a big impact on a high-profile rv like this. My current MPG (which I watch closely) is 13 on a bad day and 15 on a good day. I just do not understand how yours could be that low. It should be better than mine by a noticeable amount.
Feel free to email me at ricktanner@outlook.com
Thank you for your interesting video. Have you been in cold weather ? How long does the propane last. I beleave that the windows are single pane...
We have been in sub freezing plenty but not sub-zero. No issues at all. Propane tank is huge, so we generally go 6 months or more between filling.
The windows are double pane.
I like to hear the generator running no load and under load and talk a bit while running we can guage the levels. Also is there a setting to let the generator be in auto start stop based on battery SOC?
I believe it does have this auto setting, but we so rarely use the genny. I am not certain.
Sorry Rick, but I have to warn people to stay away from MHSRV. The reason they get a good Google review is that they pay you $80 for the positive review after you complete the purchase. I have had the worst experience in my life working with Nolan and the dealership. Check out the Better Business Review, if you're wondering what I'm talking about. I'm going to leave it at that for now. I'm glad to hear that Rick was able to get good warranty work but it may be because they saw you as an RUclips influencer. They're telling me it could take up to 20 days just to get approval from Coachmen for the repair that's covered by the warranty. How long the simple repair is going to take? They won't say other than the warranty works are low in their priority. However, if you're willing to pay out-of-pocket, they say they can get it repaired immediately. Then you're on your own trying to get it reimbursed through Coachmen. Unbelievable.
Ford is infamous for wiring issues
Fortunately we have not had an issue with Ford wiring.
I have one burning question concerning the refrigerator. No one seems to mention whether the refrigerator is 12 volt or a propane 2 way. What little information I find is not consistent. So, is the fridge 12 volt? I have had a 12 volt fridge for 2 years now and love it. I would not want to go back to propane at all. Could you please answer this question for me.
Yes, the fridge is 12v and not propane.
Sorry for the late posting I am subscribe to you guys but for some reason I’m not getting any notifications. Oh well, thanks for the complete walk-through of your motorhome.
I actually have not done a video in some time. It wasn't the plan, but we bought a house in Texas and are nearing the end of renovations.
Hello, small question 🙃 how did you tale out the sticker? Thanks 🙏🏻
Just warmed them up with a hair dryer, and they peel right off.
Good video. But invest in some simple audio gear. It sounds as though you a speaking through a tin can.
Working on it!
I appreciate your videos. I’m leaning towards getting the same RV. How many seatbelts does it have? I would like to travel with my grandchildren
6 total.
Great overview series and mods! IMO, this RV is an EKKO killer at it's lower price point and the much better bed/storage configuration. Would you happen to have the measurements of the large rear storage compartment openings? Thx
I believe it's in the comments someplace. We are currently on a cruise. Otherwise, I would get those measurements for you. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the great comments.
Thanks for your great videos. I just put a deposit on the same unit. Pick it up next week. So I have a question, it apple carplay wireless or does it require a cable to work? Thanks again.
I use Android Auto and generally have my phone plugged in so it will also charge, but I believe wireless Bluetooth works just as well. Congratulations on your new RV!
@@ricktanner9817thank you. Love how well your changes have turned out.
I want to thank you for your videos. I am considering the Coachmen Cross Trail 20xg xtream and your information is a great help. Keep them coming. I am interested in issues but also interested in the positive. You are providing both.
Glad to help!
Have you tried lock tire on the hinge screws?
Yes, we actually did, and that did not solve the problem over time. We believe the hinges are just too stiff for particle board. It's likely not a problem for weekenders, but if you are full-time, the constant use is too much.
I drive a Ford Ranger 4x4 with factory tow package and found that after I reached 15000 miles the mileage started to go up while driving and towing.
Typically, you should see improved MPG after engine break-in. I'm guessing that break-in period varies from vehicle to vehicle.
Thanks for the videos can you give me some more details about the water filtration system you installed?
Purchased it from Lowes. Just standard home undersink filter. Some modifications are required.
Can you share how you did the headboard modification, please? We would really like to replicate in ours. Thank yiu
We didn't actually video that modifications, but basically, you use lightweight wood and attach to the aluminum frame with bolts.
I know this is 2024 model. Looking at the 2025 model they have, would you still do the modifications you have done to your 2024? Is there upgrades on the 2025 that you like? Love the videos and thanks for all the great information.
We have not seen the changes for the 25 model in person yet.
The 2025 has one major change. The electrical system changed to an EcoFlow system. It is a 48 volt system which as a lot of advantages. The inverter included is now 3600 watts. They moved the batteries inside and under the dinette which created a storage bin where the batteries used to be. A minor change is the tie down hooks and now on a rail and can be moved around to better suit where they might be needed.
Thank you..I'm leaning more to this rig. I was really interested in the LTV's on a ford Transit but the build time is a long wait. Then when it arrives. They hit you with an over MSRP price change. Anyway, this seems like a reasonable price for what you get. Are they built solid? Feedback from other owners?
To me, they seem more solid than most. Probably better pre covid, but wasn't everything.
I'm late to the game, but I'm watching all of your videos because I'm close to buying a Crosstrail 20XG. Thank you for all the great tips about Critter! Do you think you would ever have time to put links to the products you have used for upgrades, in the description? That would be awesome and super helpful! :)
I'm just a little embarrassed to say I have no idea how to do that. I can't do anything video editing wise as you have seen. I know I have the worst videos on RUclips but it's really just about the RV. I do hope to record a new one, just waiting for a new solar charger to arrive. Cooked my first on a really sunny day.
@@ricktanner9817 I totally understand. No worries! And you definitely DO NOT have the worst videos on YT. I think they're great. And you are helping lots of people, so you should feel good about that! :)
Thanks for a great video. I am considering upsizing from my self-built class B (on a transit chassis) to a crosstrail or similar. Do you know where I can buy a Crosstrail like yours? Meaning...with all of the electrical upgrades, lift kit, etc. They seem to be hard to find. Can you point me in a direction? :)
We purchased ours from MHSRV in Alvarado, TX. The salesperson was Noland. This is not the only dealer in the country but we had bought from this dealership before and we're very comfortable with them. If you fly in, they will pick you up from the airport. I believe they are the largest single RV dealership in the world. They have golf carts for customers because the lot is huge. You could spend days looking.
@@ricktanner9817 Okay. Thank you!!
This seems to be your first RV. Did you have a short list of other rigs…Can you get all electric (stovetop) in lieu of propane….do you need for heater propane
This is actually our 6th RV over the last 15 years. Most were new. I researched for months before selecting this one. The stove top is all electric. The propane is only for the hot water, furnace, and outdoor griddle. You can also run the generator off your propane tank if you choose to.
@@ricktanner9817 thanks
Trying to figure out how well the Cross Trail will do in the winter. More concerned about keeping batteries warm and wondering what water lines are exposed? Appreciate it!
We spent several months in the teens and even single digits with zero issues. Even drives well in deep snow and on ice.
My first dealer visit from Thor for a complete electrical system failure took 5 months. They didn't fix it another 6 months, no fix another year with multiple visits- no fix Thor ran out the warranty and left me hanging, I had to pay an independent tech to finally fix it, two years later. Thor is the worst. And there is trust behind the negative stories from real people like myself.
Stories like this really make me sick and not want to roll the dice again by buying another new RV. This will almost certainly be our last purchase, and consider ourselves very fortunate to be so lucky this time. Being handy with repairs is one thing, working on the entire electrical system is something completely different. I would not attempt it.
I've heard really negative things about Thor to the point that I would not purchase a Thor product.
What size gauge wire wire do you use from your Nokio solar panel controller to your plug on the RV? I have a Nokio and I'm using 10 gauge wire and it's not recognizing the solar panel. Although the solar panel is working fine into the controller, but not from the controller into the RV. Do you use 12 gauge from Nokio controller to rv plug? Thanks.
I do believe it is 12 Guage wire, but I will have to confirm that. I did recently overload my charger and have to replace it. Turns out 800 watts on the roof is max when the sun is high on a SE Texas summer. That experience will be my next video.
@@ricktanner9817 thank you, that would be great! I'm having difficulty hooking up my 300 W Dokio to rv... not showing a charge on inside rv panel. My dealer in Sacramento California told me that the 2025 can handle 1600 W of solar.
If I close my eyes, is he George Bush
Do I sound like George Bush? Which one?
@@ricktanner9817no you don’t, you sound intelligent and are much better looking 😊
just wondering do those outside storage doors have locks.does'nt look like they do
Yes, but they are the standard RV locks everyone uses. We upgraded ours at the Quartzsite RV Show in Arizona last year. Something I would recommend everyone do, especially if the storage can access your interior.
It does not have a generator, right? How did you manage that problem of traveling during winter month where literslly no sun for days?
Yes, it does have a generator. We didn't use it once all winter. The furnace is propane, and the batteries charge any time you drive. Also, I don't believe we ever went more than a day or two without any sun. Even partial sun will generate power.
Hi, Could you speak about why you chose this model vs. the 21G? Was it simply the bed configuration? I currently own a Pleasure way Ontour 2.2 clas B and it's the highest quality RV I've owned to date. We are trying to decide if we want to move up to a B+ unit but I am petrified of selling a great rv and getting into something that will have issues. You said it well in your 5 month review all rvs definitely have their issues for obvious reasons. You just hope that it's nothing structural or major. The other thing holding me back is the fact that my current B van which is a Ford Transit also can be parked anywhere, driven anywhere and looks like a van vs. having a B+ which is obviously viewed as an rv.
I can not argue that this B+ is stealthy. Is an RV and looks like one. It's a tradeoff, but for us, it is well worth it. We had a 2022 B Class Thor Sequence. It did not look like an RV, and we liked that, but it was just too tight to be comfortable full time. As you know, we did remove much of the decals and graphics to tone this Extreme down. That actually helped a lot. Still, you have your work cut out for you with this decision. Regarding our choice of the 29 over the 21XG, it became a no-brainer. Prior to seeing them in person, we liked the 21, but once we got inside, the 20 was far better suited for our needs. The bed, the bath, and the storage configurations were the primary factors.
Thank you so much for comparing the charge. I’m seriously considering buying this unit because of your videos. I love how you are no nonsense and informative. It makes a huge difference for a newbie who’s only camped in a tent as a child. I wish I understood the concept of energy consumption and charging I worry about my fur babies.
Power can be a complicated thing. That is why we wanted to have all the bells and whistles factory installed. Coachmen and Renogy di an amazing job on this RV. All I had to add was 2 more solar panels, and that was easy. The game changer for us was the dual 400 amp Lithium batteries. They make all the difference. Best of luck!
You've done a fantastic job. I just love your coach! Is that a three-way refrigerator?
No, it is AC or DC only.
Great video, I love your description! Very coherent.
Glad you enjoyed it!
so what did it cost?
We paid $136,000 out the door. If you have not seen it, check out the indepth review the Vancaskeys did on our RV back in February, I believe. It is over 250,000 views.
Ok.. Love the headboard idea! I was going to ask if you made it or purchased, but JUST watched your latest video and you answered my question!☺️.
It wasn't very difficult but makes a huge difference. Both when sleeping and watching TV.
@@ricktanner9817 I agree!! What material did you use? How did you attach it? Dimensions? Sorry for so many ??’s 👍
@lorriemelko1285 We don't actually remember the type of wood, but almost anything would work. I believe it was a soft wood, but I don't think it was pine. We drilled holes and attached it with small bolts. Not sure the exact measurements but just short of the length of the bed. About 18" above the surface of the bed.
@@ricktanner9817 Many thanks for the reply Rick!! Another one for the “ honey do list”😉
How much solar do you have currently? I have 2 X 200 panels and am thinking of adding another 200. Any thoughts suggestions and advice?
Ours came from the factory with 2 x 200 watt panels. We added 2 more for a total of 800 watts with 4 panels. It's impressive how much power they deliver on a sunny day. They also reduced the amount of heat of the roof.
@@ricktanner9817 thank you. We might add two more as it really helps staying out longer.
Forgot to ask how many lithium batteries do you have fur those four solar panels? I am think of adding g one more lithium.
@@ajhannahadventures ours came from the factory with 2 400 amp lithium batteries.
No, at these prices I don't expect quality issues. Current RVs remind me of American cars in the late 70's and early 80's (crap!).
I can't disagree with that.
There should never be quality issues on any brand new RV. The RV industry has brainwashed everyone into believing their terrible quality should be expected, but that's nonsense. At these prices, I don't want to deal with unnecessary issues that prevent me from enjoying the rig I paid good money for.
LOVE your videos!!!! Can I ask how you obtained power to hook up the TV and phone chargers??
For the TV, we ran an extension cord from the AC plug below in the garage. For the phone charge and DC fan, we ran that from the DC outlet under the dinette, through the bathroom, and into the bedroom. It was a little tricky but worth it. A nice feature there is that you can run the fan all night and charge phones without having to have your inverter on.
@@ricktanner9817 ohh ok! Thank you…☺️. We’re picking ours up Saturday 👏. So, trying to figure out how to make it work for the phones.😌. May I ask, how long of a cord did you have to use to get from the dinette into the bedroom, and how did you feed it thru the bathroom?🤔 Drill holes??
@@lorriemelko1285 The only hole we had to drill was in the back garage area. There were existing openings through the bathroom. I believe we used 20 to 30' of cord.
@@ricktanner9817 great!!!! Thanks again!! Keep those videos coming!👍😀
