Retaining moisture in the soil is becoming increasingly important nowadays as our climate shifts towards dryer and warmer summer conditions. This can be hugely influenced by the type of grazing system used on a farm. In this video I explain how!

The lack of rain or too much of it is probably feeling like a recurring theme in my videos now… But once again it is making grazing conditions challenging. Thanks to some long grass mob grazing currently as well as earlier on in the spring we’re still able to keep lots in front of the cows. Find out how that’s possible in this video!

The cover crop will be grazed by sheep and cattle all summer before the field is direct drilled with wheat in the autumn. Broadcasting a micro clover & trefoil mix into spring beans using a repurposed Kuhn aero boom fertiliser spreader & JCB Fastrack. The bi-crop of legumes will help increase soil health, fix nitrogen & hopefully suppress weeds. We will take the clover and trefoil forwards as a living mulch into the following wheat crop. An update on how some of our direct drilled cereals and beans are looking heading into spring. It hasn’t been an easy spring, with the wet weather causing a small amount of crop damage in areas. But on the whole it’s all looking very promising. Take a look at the video to find out more!
