FINAL FANTASY VII | Jenova LIFE w/ Rebirth Music
While I am not a fan of the FF7R trilogy, I absolutely LOVE its soundtrack. For this reason, I have taken footage of "that" scene from the original FINAL FANTASY VII (with a ton of mods installed) and edited music from Rebirth overtop of it using Adobe Premiere.

When Endings Break Stories | A Critique of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE
Просмотров 26 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Final Fantasy VII Remake is an incredible game, but for many fans, its final chapter brought the whole experience down. This video explains why that is, how Remake violates the most fundamental rule of storytelling, and how that might impede the rest of the 7R trilogy moving forward. Notes & Sources: docs.google.com/document/d/1jfImccwSAhb91jRGYUyFpe9ovKJVwBZ4oTCrCnsMexI/edit?usp=sharing Backin...
I’d rather pay 240 dollars for three new games than an extended expensive copycat of the original. This move was risky but it all worked out. If you want to play the original, just play the original. Don’t expect to pay over 200$ for the same game.
Aw, not gonna cry about how CONVOLUTED AND CONFUSING the ending is? unless you have more than 3 brain cells its pretty fuckin simple. Just admit you're a whiney baby that doesnt like change and believes the poorly translated and already convoluted story was in the original.
It didnt break shit, Clown. Tho I do want to make a video titled "When Nobodies using Anime Avatars Pretend to Know Better"
I feel like multiverse is a marketing technique. You keep the well known brand and characters and get to sell product to a larger audience than if you start with a new game with new characters.
I think your second sentence refers more to the use of the FFVII BRAND, rather than the multiverse per se. But still, I agree with you. The whole "alternate/lifestream worlds" gimmick feels like it exists only for marketing reasons. E.g., the developers can put scenes like Barret, Tifa, Aerith and Nanaki dead in Midgar into Rebirth's trailer and thus generate speculation, only for Rebirth to come out and say: "Actually, that was all just happening in limbo; none of what we showed in the trailers actually mattered." This is another reason why I don't believe this trilogy will end well. The developers are prioritizing internet theories and short-term thrills at the cost of coherence and long-term MEANING. 30 years from now, people will still be talking about how great the OG's story was, and the Remake trilogy will likely be seen as an experiment which didn't pay off as well as was hoped.
Incredible effort! Hated the remake, loved OG FF7, great video!
NEVER play Rebirth then... It taints the most IMPORTANT scene of OG FF7 and left me in total disbelieve It made me almost *RAGE* Ps. Great Video with strong points, maybe a bit too long though for a Remake Series that is not Worth our Time
just commenting for the algorithm. not finished watching/listening but i think you've made a good video here... if somewhat long winded and laboured in parts.
Thank you! I agree, there are some points which I could have condensed and/or summarized with more brevity. Although, since it's such a long video, I haven't seen many trolls or rage-commenters here. When the intro/disclaimer is 25 minutes long, viewers are either going to warm up or quit watching out of boredom. LOL! Out of curiosity, are there any parts of the video that interest you more than others? Any highlights you like?
Bro why the F you look like that 😂
Creatives are more and more making stories that "EVERYBODY" can understand is making more and more stories, turn to garbage. The Intelligent us, who understand body language, ways a character behaves around other characters. Being able to break down the smallest amount of dialogue, as well as what remained unsaid all weave into what can be an amazing story. The Story, world and lore of Dark Souls was mainly told through efforts of many fan theorizers and critical thinkers, who could break down all kinds of different interactions, and see it weaved by the collective into an amazing, and rewarding narrative. Now every character just blabs away explaining anything and everything so the less intellectually sound of the fanbase can make their own content where they seal clap at the most mundane of story elements. "Did ya see when da Emperor said I am all Sith, and Rey replied back I am all Jedi! I literally cried. Such smart writing. Can't wait to buy the Super Ultimate Ultra BluRayShadowXD version of Rise of Skywalker for $500. It comes with a keychain, makes the whole purchase worth it now excuse me as I go and drink my own urine" Head butting the wall for an hour I have found works in "getting me on their level" so I can not enjoy, but I guess with a concussion I to can Seal Clap for mediocrity. That Will Do Pig.... That Will Do.....
where to download this game?
I hate what they did to Sephiroth, he's basically just become FF Majima, except way less likeable.
I can't even begin to fathom the amount of knowledge, money, expertise and hard work that was put into the visuals, music and even character dialog, of these games. So much respect and reverence for the source material. Imagine the people who put so much sweat and tears into it, that they fell ill because of it. And then, here you come and put your little "master mind" story spin to it. Oh boy. They should know better. But it's obvious to me that they do know exactly what they're doing. Otherwise they wouldn't sanitize the games of emotion the way they've done. We can't have anyone feel something, for any reason, now can we?
If I understand you correctly, I think what you're saying is that a lot of Remake/Rebirth's developers must also feel upset by the story problems? If that's your point, then I agree. I feel sorry for anyone at Square Enix HQ who thought they were working on an actual retelling of FF7; putting so much of their heart, time and effort into these games. ...Only to have it all wasted on a bungled script which is so awful that it managed to undermine the financial viability of the FINAL FANTASY VII BRAND NAME, for God's sake! Experience has taught me that absolutely nothing made by Nomura, Toriyama, Nojima or Kitase is worth getting invested in (not since Sakaguchi left Square); the storytelling in their games is *always* so bad that it ends up invalidating everything else they could potentially get right. For that reason, I will never get invested in *anything* they write, direct or produce ever again. If I were a game developer, I would rather be skinned alive than work on any project helmed by Nomura, Toriyama, Nojima or Kitase.
This needs to be modded into the game now that rebirth has been out for awhile
The guy who created the ReMusic mod (which adds music from Remake into the OG) says that he'll update the mod when Rebirth comes to PC. I guess it's easier for him that way, since the configurations (e.g., which segments from which tracks play at what time?) are already there.
@@obsessive_hermit oh nice, i actually have remusic on my mod list. Nice to hear it'll be updated someday
People defending this game need to understand first you NEED TO PLAY THE ORIGINAL TO FEEL WHAT WE ALL OG FF FANS FEELS.... Second play some remake game and compare it to original like persona 3 , re2/4 , demon souls...all of this game stay loyal to their original , the plot , the entire story stay the same...but with ff7 remake the change the whole plot .....and don't get me started with that whisper thing 🤦
It could have been just like this with improved graphics. That was the dream... I remember I bought the PS4 just to play the remake. Once I started seeing the ghosts I was like hum what's this? Once I saw the final battle with Sephiroth and those 3 time whatever I was like they ruined it.😢 Why? The original had so much going on already even of they put some sidequests that would be enough. The hand massage part, the dancing act part so out of place from the original. From rebirth I only saw pieces. I saw the part where they're in corel prison (just cringy) and I was astonished and I saw Aerith's felt like crying but this time instead of sadness I felt like crying of anger for how much they screwed my favorite game and destroyed my dream that I wanted for so many years. Hopefully they don't remake anything else.
I didn't finish FF7 Remake because I dislike the battle system. Still it is a good thing because of the changes made to the story.
I wished so badly that they had simply embellished on the towns we visited. And i was even ok with the side quests and new characters and deeper looks into already known characters. But the whispers appearing in remake just kinda set me off. It was then that seperated this from the OG (which i see now can never be topped) and look at it as its own story. I feel its all a bit convoluted. Throwing all this space time crap in it. Bringing Zack back, while he was a belived character IN HIS OWN GAME, was just sloppy and unimaginitve, i feel, to the story. It was kinda cool combat wise but also just why??? It was such a beautiful story to begin with. Aerith should have been definitely gone from the moment we reached her. It took so much away from the impact of that specific moment. When i first played that game almost 30 years ago, that scene hurt. There was no need to bring in all kinds of other nonsense to try and appeal to a wider base. This game is a masterpiece in itself. But sadly, Square enix fell victim to the multiverse plague that has manufactured most of our media here lately. I will not contest its beauty, the remake, because....well come on. I love the soundtrack as well. I just wish they had given us what we really wanted and deserved. Im also going to have an unpopular opinion about how the temple of the ancients section ended. Anyone who played the original knows what sephiroth really made cloud do after the temple collapsed into the black materia. Im not saying that it should have gone that far but i also think they could have made Cloud a bit more threatening towards Aerith while trying to get the black materia back from her. They had no problem dialing it up a bit with Tifa at Gongaga. It just didnt feel all that suspenseful as it seemed they wanted. Idk maybe a weird critique. But i will agree that they could have stayed a bit more true to the original and had this be a genuine remake. But i will play part 3 because as i said i do enjoy it as its own seperate game for the most part. Plus ive never been able to not finish a story, be it from a book or game so im compelled to lol
Square Enix has been trying to use the theme of "defying fate" for pver a decade now. Its still boring af.
Much better than what they actually did in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
There are three groups. Those who dislike the Remake trilogy and like the orginal. Those who just like Remake and have not/will not play the original and those who like both. One group is eating good.
If they made the story more about life and death rather than about time, the remake would had been better. Even better if they kept the nit and gritty the original had in it with its steam punk vibes. FF7 is basically Goth Final Fantasy, while FF8 is Emo Final Fantasy. FF9 and FF10 are pretty much the same, happiness is sadness, light in darkness. I think a lot of what they had changed could had been kept if it had adapted to what FF7 originally was, a Goth Final Fantasy, a Final Fantasy about Life and Death. FF7 is much more like FF6 even though FF6 has more to do with misery than it does with a fundamental question of what even is life. FF6 is more about why someone lives while FF7 is about why am I alive?
They shouldn't have whispers in FF7. Instead maybe go further into Spirits Within with the concept of Planets having a lifeforce and can literally suck out someone's soul at least then you are still in the FF7 setting. Also keeping it dark and aboding would had helped too.
I understand time travel. I revamped/reset this universe enough times while retaining memories of doing it prior that I am a real time traveler, in a manner of speaking.
The problem with the remake is that it doesn't understand what FF7 was about. The theme of it. FF7 is about how life is fleeting and no matter how much you enjoy something, it will be gone before you know it. That is what Aerith's death represents and why it was crucially part of the story. To make it better with this remake is to have that done more than once. Jessie's death in part 1, Aerith's death in part 2, and maybe Red XIII in part 3 or something like that since Red XIII becomes a kid or reveals he always was a kid and so his tragic end would solidify what the motif of the story that no matter what, you will always be haunted by sudden end of life. Then again, maybe just the original ending where the planet decides whether we live or die would had been good enough as a final end to this story.
Virgin "Bought Remake sight unseen and its ending sucks" vs. Chad "Waited before buying Remake, found out that the entire plot sucks".
Wow, this is probably the best video on the subject! Especially given that you included so many well articulated sentiments from other critiques.
Just beat this and the thing I hate the most is the lack of control over the character. The game MAKES you do things like walking, looking, talking, etc. Even Classic plays for you. The game may as well just do everything for me, let me watch and sometimes interact with the game in a quick time event. I think I would have preferred to just watch this as an interactable film.
This is the most well researched, well thoughtout and well critique that tackles not just FF7 remake but the writing on time travelling and multiverse as a whole.
After replaying the original I urge anyone who hasn’t to do so. You can literally pinpoint the moment this industry had to be taken seriously. People forget the impact this game had. How everything before it was so vastly inferior that it’s hard for current generation to even fathom the impact
Sephiroth: "And then you Nort a boy." Cloud: "What did you just say?" Sephiroth: "Nothing, nothing. Just ignore me."
I love remake. I love Rebirth. I think this demonization of people who enjoy the game is problematic. Ffs, most people like me like seeing criticism even though I love the games. I even see the point in most of it. To blame an entire fanbase for the actions of maybe 10 or 20 people is ludicrous. The "a one to one remake would be boring" IS a valid point. That you wanted a straight remake is also a valid point. I failed to play the original game because the layout was confusing, I would have loved a straight remake. I even see the points and the fear of Kingdom Hearts-ification as someone who loathed the convoluted mess that turned into. Fans who didn't like it are plenty toxic. To make individuals out to be a mob when they're individuals with different motivations never sat right with me. You cannot by force turn a bunch of individuals into a mob. A mob needs a common goal AND a way to congregate and discuss acting within a group. These are individuals. I just wanted your critical viewpoint, not some weird moral lecture. I get the people who are victimized doing this because when you're scared you do tend to look at it that way, but these weird moral lectures annoy the shit out of me. It's tiring to listen to some guy pretending to be offended on behalf of others in order to paint himself as reasonable and people he doesn't even know as unreasonable.I am tired of this weird meta commentary on everything. Could we just stop being such weird moral lecturers? It's creepy and it targets the wrong people. I am tired of being made to feel uncomfortable by being a fan of something by some unnuanced guy deciding to act the moral arbiter and shaming me simply for liking something. Just make another video about that that I get to avoid. It is so incredibly creepy to have to listen to when you just want a criticism of the game. I hate the word parasocial but in this case I'll use it. I don't know you, you don't know me. Stop calling out 10 people by demonizing millions. Stop talking about drama in a video about a game. Drama channels genuinely make me uncomfortable, but people like you genuinely seem to think we want that in everything.
I played the original back then in 2016 when in high school after seing clip of aerith death in youtube.the game really captivating me even with that blocky graphic.the story left an impression on me that time.i remember that feelling when i finish the game.i never though i would love video game story that much. That when i search on yt on found that the game will be remake and look forward to re experience the story in the game in modern presentation, but sadly it come out not as i expected.i really hate that stupid plot ghost dementor and this multiverse time travel bullshit.the only time travel story that i can tolerate is steins gate
Rebirth review video when? Enjoyed the remake vid!
I'm not doing a Rebirth critique. See my comments under this video and that one for explanations.
To anyone reading this, please repent and believe the gospel! There is a loving God who wants to know you and save you. Jesus died on the cross and resurrected so we can be forgiven of our sins and be saved. Please consider the state of your soul. Believe in Jesus and follow Him so you may have salvation. Life is short, please make the right choice today!
As a practicing Orthodox Christian, I agree with your message and appreciate your passion. However, I don't think it's gonna land on anyone in this particular comment section. The Bible says to "not cast pearls before swine," and I think most people in the FF fandom have already written off religion (esp. Christianity) altogether; they're not likely to receive the Gospel because they probably hold secular-mechanistic/materialistic worldviews which are inherently incompatible with religious beliefs. Even if there are some folks here who could potentially be saved, I don't think comments like yours are an effective way of proselytizing. Here's some life advice: if you want to win people over, YOU NEED TO OFFER SOMETHING THAT THEY LONG FOR; you need to advertise the PROS/MERITS of Christianity to people who are suffering because of their absence (e.g., they suffer from feelings of nihilism or loneliness; they're sick and tired of materialistic hedonism, they want to build character and/or live up to a "higher" moral standard; they long to be part of a community; they want something which they can look forward to after death, etc.). Only AFTER THAT can you start giving them reasons to believe that God is real, that Jesus was his one true son, and that through his death and resurrection, our souls may now live with him in eternal paradise. You can sway 1000 people by appealing to what they WANT or DON'T WANT faster than you can convince 1 person with facts and arguments. That said, I'm personally thankful that I'm religious, because - while I lean towards annihilationism - the fact that the writers of FFX-2, XIII, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, FFVII Remake and Rebirth *genuinely think* that they're good at storytelling ( * somehow * ) kind of makes me *hope* that there is a hell in which they will end up. LMAO
What platform is this? This looks different than the original… updated
@@robgreenway4389 It’s the PC version with a ton of mods installed. See the description for details.
Adding a "multiverse" to ANY work, especially a great one, is a terrible, idiotic writing choice in general. It is nothing but a lazy way to be able to show any scene, introduce any characters, do everything Nomura feels like, "without consequence". It inherently lessens the entirety of the actual story, because look!, there's all these other timelines where all fanfiction and Nomura nonsense is just as real as the original story. And Tetsuya Nomura is an atrocious storyteller, utterly incapable of planning an ending to any story, or resolution to any of his anime filler arc plot threads. The other people who made the game did an amazing job of finally making his obsession with action combat into something well designed and fun and that still feels somewhat like Final Fantasy (by the way, I loved 12, it's tragic that corporate meddling with the characters and plot essentially destroyed the intended story... but it was still a beautiful, resplendent experience just playing the game, exploring, going to difficult optional areas early, doing all the hunts, reading the bestiary, and losing oneself in the gorgeous world, music, and day/night system), and they did a great job with a ton of other aspects of the remake too; it's so lame for all those haters to ignore that you are specifically criticizing the storytelling and where it is going, and act like you said everything was bad... if anyone had their feelings hurt, as so many of them accuse you/us of, it is those angry commenters, who clearly had an extreme emotional reaction to any criticism whatsoever of the remake. And I think I know what's going on, besides the cultural dynamic of hateful bullies dominating the discourse (as with The Last Jedi). The people who are deadset on loving everything about the remake are playstation kids, whose first RPG of any kind was VII, many of whom would have been laughing at and bullying the small minority who played JRPGs during the 16-bit era. So VII is *everything* to them, and this is something they've been clamoring for forever; of course they have a massive subconscious motivation to love every bit of it. While the minority of fans who had played 4 and 6 and Chrono Trigger beforehand enjoyed 7 a lot, we also had perspective on it, and we don't worship it. I liked 8 quite a bit more honestly. But we still care about the important, brave things the story of 7 did, its themes and message, and the integrity of the characters and their roles and motivations. And so, so, so much of all those things has been compromised, betrayed, made lesser, and outright changed, not to make the story better, but with the sole motivation of allowing Nomura to shove all his personal trashy fanfiction he's made over the years into the main game itself, to canonize the game as HIS game, not the masterpiece that Yoshinori Kitase directed. That absolutely deserves calling out and criticism. And the bullies are doing the same thing they did in the SNES days, laughing at and personally attacking the minority of people who are sensitive, care about good art, and care deeply about fictional stories.
Still waiting for a Real Remake.... You know.... A Remake without Harry Potter Dementor of the multi-Nomuraverse
Another big problem of destroying the destiny of fate is it was completely pointless. Reverse the still following along the original game with subtle changes of scenes in areas. You still go to the golden salsa you still busy iconic places at the original game followed nothing changed for the most part
2:52:30 This EZA clip makes me miss the days of Ben and Kyle. With those 2 being gone, I kinda lost interest in their content, outside of Mysterious Monsters. Ben and Kyle lead to interesting discussions about games, with Ben's in depth takes or Kyle's contrarian takes. Everyone else feels like they just share the same opinion or they don't have a strong opinion.
There is one story that does time travel well. Steins;Gate.
I think because the time travel is the theme from the start.and seeing the mc struggle many time to save all the people he love is make us feel to the character. that why when mc can save everyone in ending really relieving
@@aniwreck2482 Yeah, the story revolving around time travel and its unintended consequences is what made it good. Putting time travel in a story not made for it would derail the entire story to revolve around the fact time travel exists.
You seem to forget or do not know that, FF7 Remake (Trilogy) isn't about time travel so your hate is misguided. Also what would you want them to do at then when Sephiroth confronts them, to give up and die? Sephiroth controls and attacks the party with the whisper and he is on the verge of creating a world where he finishes the planet. By fighting the group gives themself another chance (creating another world), where they might change Sephiroth plans.
You know the writers chose to make Sephiroth the final villain. It's not real life. It's not "they have to do this or they die." It's "the writers made the story this way." The characters weren't forced to fight the whispers. The writer made the characters fight the whispers.
@@ShallBePurified Your argument is so bad, it works with every story or game ever.
@@Vidred007 Obviously. A story is a medium that a writer uses to express a theme, ideas, and people. If the writing makes people turn off from the story, that's the fault of the writer.
