I read City of Thieves years ago. I don't remember much about it, other than that I liked it. I have The Bone Clocks waiting to be read on my bookshelf. And right now, I too am reading a short easy-to-read book called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Wow what an honor this was so awesome. I would say if you want the full story Mitchell is building start with 1000 Autumns. This made my day thanks! A 5 and a 4 I will take that!

I like Hunts-men/Hunts-women. The John Gwynne Faithful and the Fallen and Of Blood and Bone series really show how important they are to tat kind of setting.

There are two books that are damn near unreadably scary. The Killing Lessons by Saul Black and “Adam” by Ted Dekker.

Was considering Looking Glass Sound this October. Also, yes, the humidity in Houston is a joke right now. Even more than usual!

Because you read 'The Magician,' do you suppose you might read 'The Magic Mountain' by Thomas Mann? I hear that it is a monumental book. I know nothing about it - but my interest is most definitely piqued. I found it in a used bookstore and immediately snatched it up, to (hopefully) be read at some later undetermined date.

I've been revisiting all the Kick-Ass books from Robert m McCammon.. I was reading that stuff along with King starting in the 8th grade back in the late 80s. Highly recommend Swan Song, They Thirst, his short story collection called the Blue World, and I just finished Stinger.. he was right there with King for me growing up.. also any of the work by author Brian Keene!

I was too young to see the movie when it came out so I read the book instead which was the first book I ever read. I was 11😮

The Gentlemen Bastards series is my favorite series! I don't read much fantasy anymore, but the world building is amazing, and all of the characters have a purpose and personality. I need to reread it before the fourth one comed out. I do not like what they did to the Red Seas Under Red Skies cover! The cover is the whole reason I started reading this series. I accidentally bought it first, then realized it was a series.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on City of Thieves. I want that BB set of Gentlemen Bastards so bad. Awesome haul!

I just finished The Fisherman It had a novella inside of it and I think that ruined it It was too long and drawn out - it could have been good

Try reading the late author Irving Stone’s epic biographical novel about renaissance artist Michelangelo entitled The Agony And The Ecstasy. It is hugely fascinating and worth every penny

I hope you like This Thing Between Us when you get it! If you ever want to try a different Robert McCammon, Speaks the Nightbird is one of my favorite horror novels. It's about a magistrate and his apprentice (?) going to a small village to try a woman accused of witchcraft. The characters are really fleshed out and a lot of weird things happen to people in the village. As for John Saul, I would definitely recommend one of his earlier works, but Comes the Blind Fury is definitely my favorite of his

Sour Candy was really good ! Kin by the same author is good too.

Best book I've read this year: The Trials of Empire (Richard Swan).Probably the best trilogy I've ever read. 2nd best: Strange Sally Diamond (Liz Nugent). Audiobook. Deeeeeply disturbing. Worst: Annie Bot was so bad it took the #1 and #2 spot. Looking forward to: Don't Let the Forest In (C.G. Drews) and The City and Its Uncertain Walls (Haruki Murakami). Alien Clay. I hear it's like Cage of Souls (which I loved), but I'll wait for your review before I decide to pick it up. Love the channel.

Don't know if it's horror exactly but Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage is pretty disturbing.

Thanks for your honest review! You sound like a friend who gives their real opinion on a book rather than a critic trying to sound all academic. I like knowing how a book leaves people feeling! I’ll be interested to see what others have to say about this book in particular as I have not yet read it.

The grandfathers of horror are Poe and Lovecraft. Everyone else writes in their shadows.

I prefer the love interests in books to be either cinnamon rolls or "tough on the outside, sweet and caring on the inside." I like my spicy scenes spicy but with clear consent.

That 1 has been on my list. I liked the Last House on Needless Street.

Have you red The Elementals by Michael McDowell? Superb

3.49 on GR's and where people at that site would hand out 5 stars to a book with blank pages from their favorite author, that's a low score. Love the content.

Michael McDowell, Dan Simmons, and Robert McCammon are my favorite horror genre writers. Ok so Simmons and McCammon write in other genre’s than horror but nonetheless they’re all my favorites. Try The Amulet, Blackwater,or The Elementals by McDowell if you want an underrated horror author.

The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker deserves a mention here, along with At The Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft. And for those who've never read it, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House is one of the best in the genre of psychological horror.

I Am Legend is my favorite book! I read it once a year!

The book I absolutely hate that other people seem to love is A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. I had to force myself to finish it. This is one of those books where the writing is amazing. The word usage is phenomenal but the main character, Ignatius J. Reilly, is such a despicable person that you just can't like him. He is *too* unlikeable. There are a few side characters that probably should have been left out and the book cut down at least 100-150 pages. I made myself finish it hoping that there was a point to the book but there wasn't.

The Dark. By James Herbert is to me the scariest book in horror.

Try christopher pike & H.P. Lovecraft.

I totally thought this said the “cheapest” horror books. 😂
