The Arab Threat 641-718 - History of Byzantium
February 641 AD, emperor Heraclius was dead and the roman state faced a massive threat. The Arabs, and their new Islamic faith had taken the fertile crescent by storm defeating Roman and Persian field armies in their respective provinces of Syria and Mesopotamia. While the imperial government struggled to contain the advance of the muslims, unstable finances and religious strife brought further destabilization.

From Crisis to Diocletian - Late Roman Empire
As a Turk who is proud of his history, there is no empire as the Roman Empire. It lasted 15 centuries, started with a city, ended with a city. Saw many enemy empires rise and fall. It influenced maybe the most influental continent in human history. The whole infrastructure of the continent is roman, its laws are roman based. The empire saw the birth and rise of Christianity and Islam. There is no other empire that deserves only the name ‘the empire’ then the roman empire. It is a honour for a Turk to give the last push to the empire in 1453. It is a honour to be in the same page as the empire in the history books.

I feel like some catholics and orthodox sometimes wonder why God doesn’t do to them what he did for the Israelites how he saved their nation time and again, and even in the end promised them their land back. Since the day Constantine became king his successors and maybe even himself have been so corrupted with violence pride and disaster, these Romans were so wicked, and the papacy was no better, all they cared about was money and power, it’s no wonder the Lord even raised up the Muslims to sweep them.
Damn good channel!
The byzantines ("romans") did a lot to promote islam, which somehow shows that they were at the very essence of the degenerate western essence. Their destruction of the sassanid empire, their inner conflicts, their stupid religious discussions, show they fully deserved their complete destruction .... that of course (cherry on the cake) had to be done by islamized turks. Christianity ... What a beauty .....
The just caliph who did not differentiate between Muslims and Christians, nor between rich and poor, they were all equal to him, is Imam Ali, peace be upon him.

The threat to feudalism and high social class. What kind of “threat” would liberate peasants from authoritarian nobles
32:30 this actually kick started the Islamicate translation movement, as Muslims now wanted to mint their own coins so they started translating alchemical texts into Arabic.
It was not Arab threat. Actually, after getting freedom thoughts from Islam, they restored their rule in their Arab peninsula .
Analyse Video 😮 THE TRUTH The Romans/ Byzantines took over the North Africa, Egypt, Levantine, Spain, Asia Minor, Greece and ENSLAVED the peoples and ruthlessly exploited the resources for over 600 years. SERVING ROME! Islam ☪️ came and freed all these people. Now these people have a national identity. Byzantine/ Rome GO HOME!
You couldn't be more wrong. Get an education
I find Maurice to be a good and fascinating emperor, however his insistence on forcing his men to camp on the other side of the Danube baffles me. Even after all of the previous soldier revolts, he still kept trying and thus caused the downfall of a capable emperor in place of one of the worst.
Byzantine history is never boring.

If rome hadn't been weakened by the war with the Persians they would have, i believe repelled the arabs ,or the persians would have defeated them as they too were weakened, instead of falling so easily to the muslims . In this case islam wouldn't spread , World would be a better place .

Abu Dharr reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: You would soon conquer Egypt and that is a land which is known (as the land of al-qirat). So when you conquer it, treat its inhabitants well. For there lies upon you the responsibility because of blood-tie or relationship of marriage (with them). And when you see two persons falling into dispute amongst themselves for the space of a brick, than get out of that. He (Abu Dharr) said: I saw Abd al-Rahman b. Shurahbil b. Hasana and his brother Rabi'a disputing with one another for the space of a brick. So I left that (land).
Khabbab b. al-Aratt said: We made complaint to the Prophet when he was using a striped cloak as a cushion in the shade of the Ka'ba, for we had experienced persecution from the polytheists, asking him if he would not make supplication to God. His face became red, and he sat and said, "Before your time a man would have a pit dug for him in the earth and be put in it, then a saw would be brought and placed above his head which would be split in two, but that would not turn him away from his religion. He would be combed with iron combs below his flesh in bone and sinew, but that would not turn him away from his religion. I swear by God that this matter will reach perfection, so that a rider will go from San'a' to Hadramaut fearing nothing but God, or a wolf which may attack his sheep; but you are in a hurry." [*] *An assurance is here given that the polytheists will receive their punishment, but the people who complained to the Prophet are exhorted to exert patience till the time for that comes.
It was narrated from Abu Sukainah, a man from among the Muharririn,[1] that a man among the Companions of the the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) commanded them to dig the trench (Al-Khandaq), there was a rock in their way preventing them from digging. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood, picked up a pickaxe, put his Rida' (upper garment) at the edge of the ditch and said: 'And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.' [1] One-third of the rock broke off while Salman Al-Farisi was standing there watching, and there was a flash of light when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)struck (the rock). Then he struck it again and said: 'And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. Nonce can change His Words. Ans He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower' And another third of the rock broke off and there was another flash of light, which Salman saw. Then he struck (the rock) a third time and said: 'And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.' The last third fell, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out, picked up his Rida' and sat down. Salman said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Each time you struck the rock there was a flash of light.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: 'O Salman, did you see that?' He said: 'Yes, by the One Who sent you with the truth, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'When I struck the first blow, the cities of Kisra and their environs were shown to me, and many other cities, and I saw them with my own eyes.' Those of his Companions who were present said: 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to grant us victory and to give us their land as spoils of war, and to destroy their lands at our hands.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for that. (Then he said:) 'Then I struck the second blow and the cities of Caesar and their environs were shown to me, and I saw them with my own eyes.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to grant us victory and to give us their lands as spoils of war, and to destroy their lands at our hands.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for that. (Then he said:) 'Then I struck the third blow and the cities of Ethiopia were shown to me, and the villages around them, and I saw them with my own eyes.' But the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said at that point: 'Leave the Ethiopians alone so long as they leave you alone, and leave the Turks alone so long as they leave you alone.'"
Abu Sufyan bin Harb informed me that Heraclius had sent a messenger to him while he had been accompanying a caravan from Quraish. They were merchants doing business in Sham (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan), at the time when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had truce with Abu Sufyan and Quraish infidels. So Abu Sufyan and his companions went to Heraclius at Ilya (Jerusalem). Heraclius called them in the court and he had all the senior Roman dignitaries around him. He called for his translator who, translating Heraclius's question said to them, "Who amongst you is closely related to that man who claims to be a Prophet?" Abu Sufyan replied, "I am the nearest relative to him (amongst the group)." Heraclius said, "Bring him (Abu Sufyan) close to me and make his companions stand behind him." Abu Sufyan added, Heraclius told his translator to tell my companions that he wanted to put some questions to me regarding that man (The Prophet) and that if I told a lie they (my companions) should contradict me." Abu Sufyan added, "By Allah! Had I not been afraid of my companions labeling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about the Prophet. The first question he asked me about him was: 'What is his family status amongst you?' I replied, 'He belongs to a good (noble) family amongst us.' Heraclius further asked, 'Has anybody amongst you ever claimed the same (i.e. to be a Prophet) before him?' I replied, 'No.' He said, 'Was anybody amongst his ancestors a king?' I replied, 'No.' Heraclius asked, 'Do the nobles or the poor follow him?' I replied, 'It is the poor who follow him.' He said, 'Are his followers increasing decreasing (day by day)?' I replied, 'They are increasing.' He then asked, 'Does anybody amongst those who embrace his religion become displeased and renounce the religion afterwards?' I replied, 'No.' Heraclius said, 'Have you ever accused him of telling lies before his claim (to be a Prophet)?' I replied, 'No. ' Heraclius said, 'Does he break his promises?' I replied, 'No. We are at truce with him but we do not know what he will do in it.' I could not find opportunity to say anything against him except that. Heraclius asked, 'Have you ever had a war with him?' I replied, 'Yes.' Then he said, 'What was the outcome of the battles?' I replied, 'Sometimes he was victorious and sometimes we.' Heraclius said, 'What does he order you to do?' I said, 'He tells us to worship Allah and Allah alone and not to worship anything along with Him, and to renounce all that our ancestors had said. He orders us to pray, to speak the truth, to be chaste and to keep good relations with our Kith and kin.' Heraclius asked the translator to convey to me the following, I asked you about his family and your reply was that he belonged to a very noble family. In fact all the Apostles come from noble families amongst their respective peoples. I questioned you whether anybody else amongst you claimed such a thing, your reply was in the negative. If the answer had been in the affirmative, I would have thought that this man was following the previous man's statement. Then I asked you whether anyone of his ancestors was a king. Your reply was in the negative, and if it had been in the affirmative, I would have thought that this man wanted to take back his ancestral kingdom. I further asked whether he was ever accused of telling lies before he said what he said, and your reply was in the negative. So I wondered how a person who does not tell a lie about others could ever tell a lie about Allah. I, then asked you whether the rich people followed him or the poor. You replied that it was the poor who followed him. And in fact all the Apostle have been followed by this very class of people. Then I asked you whether his followers were increasing or decreasing. You replied that they were increasing, and in fact this is the way of true faith, till it is complete in all respects. I further asked you whether there was anybody, who, after embracing his religion, became displeased and discarded his religion. Your reply was in the negative, and in fact this is (the sign of) true faith, when its delight enters the hearts and mixes with them completely. I asked you whether he had ever betrayed. You replied in the negative and likewise the Apostles never betray. Then I asked you what he ordered you to do. You replied that he ordered you to worship Allah and Allah alone and not to worship any thing along with Him and forbade you to worship idols and ordered you to pray, to speak the truth and to be chaste. If what you have said is true, he will very soon occupy this place underneath my feet and I knew it (from the scriptures) that he was going to appear but I did not know that he would be from you, and if I could reach him definitely, I would go immediately to meet him and if I were with him, I would certainly wash his feet.' Heraclius then asked for the letter addressed by Allah's Apostle which was delivered by Dihya to the Governor of Busra, who forwarded it to Heraclius to read. The contents of the letter were as follows: "In the name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful (This letter is) from Muhammad the slave of Allah and His Apostle to Heraclius the ruler of Byzantine. Peace be upon him, who follows the right path. Furthermore I invite you to Islam, and if you become a Muslim you will be safe, and Allah will double your reward, and if you reject this invitation of Islam you will be committing a sin of Arisiyin (tillers, farmers i.e. your people). And (Allah's Statement:) 'O people of the scripture! Come to a word common to you and us that we worship none but Allah and that we associate nothing in worship with Him, and that none of us shall take others as Lords beside Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: Bear witness that we are Muslims (those who have surrendered to Allah).' (3:64). Abu Sufyan then added, "When Heraclius had finished his speech and had read the letter, there was a great hue and cry in the Royal Court. So we were turned out of the court. I told my companions that the question of Ibn-Abi-Kabsha) (the Prophet (ﷺ) Muhammad) has become so prominent that even the King of Bani Al-Asfar (Byzantine) is afraid of him. Then I started to become sure that he (the Prophet) would be the conqueror in the near future till I embraced Islam (i.e. Allah guided me to it)." The sub narrator adds, "Ibn An-Natur was the Governor of llya' (Jerusalem) and Heraclius was the head of the Christians of Sham. Ibn An-Natur narrates that once while Heraclius was visiting ilya' (Jerusalem), he got up in the morning with a sad mood. Some of his priests asked him why he was in that mood? Heraclius was a foreteller and an astrologer. He replied, 'At night when I looked at the stars, I saw that the leader of those who practice circumcision had appeared (become the conqueror). Who are they who practice circumcision?' The people replied, 'Except the Jews nobody practices circumcision, so you should not be afraid of them (Jews). 'Just Issue orders to kill every Jew present in the country.' While they were discussing it, a messenger sent by the king of Ghassan to convey the news of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to Heraclius was brought in. Having heard the news, he (Heraclius) ordered the people to go and see whether the messenger of Ghassan was circumcised. The people, after seeing him, told Heraclius that he was circumcised. Heraclius then asked him about the Arabs. The messenger replied, 'Arabs also practice circumcision.' (After hearing that) Heraclius remarked that sovereignty of the 'Arabs had appeared. Heraclius then wrote a letter to his friend in Rome who was as good as Heraclius in knowledge. Heraclius then left for Homs. (a town in Syrian and stayed there till he received the reply of his letter from his friend who agreed with him in his opinion about the emergence of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the fact that he was a Prophet. On that Heraclius invited all the heads of the Byzantines to assemble in his palace at Homs. When they assembled, he ordered that all the doors of his palace be closed. Then he came out and said, 'O Byzantines! If success is your desire and if you seek right guidance and want your empire to remain then give a pledge of allegiance to this Prophet (i.e. embrace Islam).' (On hearing the views of Heraclius) the people ran towards the gates of the palace like onagers but found the doors closed. Heraclius realized their hatred towards Islam and when he lost the hope of their embracing Islam, he ordered that they should be brought back in audience. (When they returned) he said, 'What already said was just to test the strength of your conviction and I have seen it.' The people prostrated before him and became pleased with him, and this was the end of Heraclius's story (in connection with his faith).
btw what's up with mutilation before exile in roman politics?
The idea was to mutilate political opponents to make them undesireable for leadership. It was seen as more morale way of getting rid of opponents than execution
They should have allied with the Lombards, Slavs, and Bulgars against the Arabs.
what makes you think the lombards, and especially the slavs and bulgars, a people so completely far removed from the arabs, would want to form a coalition with their biggest rival, for no real gain to them, but massive gain for their aforementioned rival
@ Because the Bulgars fought the Arabs to defend Constantinople. I would ask the Bulgars if they want power and access to the Mediterranean Sea, then I would help them get all of the Levant. I would give all Italy to Lombards and make alliance with them against Arab Egypt. I would ask the Slavs if they want riches and power and have them in North Africa and near Iraq Iran border, give them land and trade routes. Make alliance with them to defend them and help them against Arab campaigns.
@@PureHeavenlySultan did you say you'd give north africa to the slavs, a (unneeded) med port (most likely in thrace) to the bulgars, and italy to the lombards?? the romans were desperate, but they weren't THAT desperate. they'd rather be stuck in anatolia than give states that would stab them in the back at a minute's notice concessions like that.
@ the Arabs were a true threat of the Byzantines took notice. No need for them to be in Italy. I said give All of the Levant to Bulgars, Aleppo Bulgar city, Damascus Bulgar city, Jerusalem Bulgar city with religious rights protected. A Bulgar state as a buffer is better than Muslims with religious fervor to expand the “caliphate”. Yes Slav and Berber alliance against Arabs.
@@PureHeavenlySultan wait are you a bulgarian nationalist? cuz this is the most schizo statement i've ever heard. bulgarian levant?? slavic north africa?? come on mate, you really think the romans would be so foolish?
And then again they’ve stolen a great and, back in the day, very advanced piece of land, and transformed it into crap. That’s the characteristic of islam.
lol? egypt and the levant were some of the richest places on earth until about the 18th century, during the decline of the ottoman empire. cope more
@ Egypt is like 5000 older than your fairy tale my friend. It survived under islam thanks to jizya and slavery. Your thing is worthless.
@@adamelghalmi9771 Islamic societies NEVER founded any civilization, comrade. Your thing works like a parasite, always, since day one. That’s the very essence of it. And I’m not saying this to “offend”, it’s rather an accurate description. Because yes that’s what islam is: an ideology at first, and some kind of culture at second; what it preaches is domination and that’s all. It got nothing to do with “religion”. It doesn’t belong in the same category as religions do. But anyway, that’s why islam has never developed anything that came out of it’s own roots, that simply never happened no matter what some stupid Saxon has said in the last century (they are paying the price right now aren’t they?).
