Marty Friedman is an Icon, well-known throughout the metal guitar-playing community for his role alongside Jason Becker in the speed metal outfit Cacophony from 1987 to 1988. In 1990 Marty joined Megadeth, and the rest is history. I added a few personal touches to the "A" Major descending pentatonic and added so...

Dude a patch cable on the loop & the dummy jack in input 1, delete that texture pot, variable negative feedback resistor, a 750k 2W grid stop resistor (1M was too much) before V3b and 1k 5W screen resistors on the output tubes... AND IF YOU GOT THE MONEY Some Shuguang KT66s and you'll have an amp that will eat other metal amps. You can also do 100k plate resistors and 220-330k plate resistor on V2a and 2.2k-3.3k cathode... makes it even more beast. Mine is an absolute animal!!
@jeremiahfiek5495 glad to hear that. I didn't take mine any further than what I outlined in the video. I ended up selling mine to put towards my Egnater Armageddon. I use mostly amp sims now.
@@jriff79guitar Oh yeah, and if you remove the reverb tank, the reverb knob becomes a low mid growl knob because of the opamp buffer circuit. that sucks you sold it. IF you still had it and did those other modifications it would make even the egnater look bad. Mine has this growl/snarl that i cant get out of ANYTHING else.
Hmm, I just got one from him 2 weeks ago. So, he either has a bunch or he's buying and reselling for his channel. No wonder it took 2 weeks for mine. Instead of the 3 days, it took me to get the spider valve mk2 that was on his gear tour episode.?????
@@77zrod46 how do you like it?
Ok its driving me crazy, what song or songs are you playing.
@@granthelas4468 my own riffs.
@granthelas4468 this is the song I'm messing with in that video. Just something I made up a few years back. ruclips.net/video/rkip6LO_y9Y/видео.htmlsi=uzRtvTLesj2S1t-F
That was amazing, how long have you played? i can only dream to be this skilled
@bebemanden thank you. Close to 30 years.
@@jriff79guitar oh my that really shows! I am a little over 8 months on my journey, do you have any tips that you wish you knew sooner?
@bebemanden don't play for anyone else's enjoyment but your own. Only play what inspires you to learn and what you can see yourself playing. If people like it, bonus. Trust your ear first, not all tablature 100% accurate. Find your way around the guitar neck and frets on your own and develop your own style. Do not focus on one thing for too long. When you think about playing guitar, prioritize it in your free time. Look forward to it. But do not make work of it. It's about having fun. If you are having fun impressing yourself, play until you become tired or hungry. Realize that not everyone is going to like your music, especially if you play metal. Music theory is overrated. Music is an art form, not to be constrained. Think of music and the guitar as part of who you are. Bond with your instrument. Liking the feel and look of the guitar is important. If it doesn't speak to you, save up for one that you know just by looking at it that it will. Practice with a drum machine, backing track, or metronome. Timing is of utmost importance. This is my philosophy and approach to guitar.
@jriff79guitar some seriously eye opening stuff here, thank you so much this is really really good advice!
@@bebemanden I've been playing guitar for 6 years now, I'll give some advice from myself. Don't turn a blind eye to hard parts, even if you think that if you played better you wouldn't play them anyway. Practice them at a slower tempo. It really helps to understand how the guitarist thinks, even if you can't play it as fast as he does, you'll understand what he's playing and how he thinks. I also recommend you to watch video schools from good guitarists more often. Some people have been playing for years, but when you come across their videos you realize that they don't even know how to move the brush and hold the pick more comfortably and economically, as if they have literally never seen it done correctly, even though they may have been playing guitar for 10 years. I also suggest mixing up the songs for learning. When I first started out, I got pretty good at playing fast riffs with a gallop or downstroke. And as I was sad to realize that I can not play a simple riff on a clean sound as for example in call of ktulu or verse riff fade to black, because simply did not train to rearrange the chords, although at the same time I could play some more or less fast solos. And so the most important thing is persistence, I wish you good luck in your guitar way
Coolest shit I've ever fuckin seen. And I've seen some fuckin cool shit. Love. 🤘👍
This is the best thing i have seen for a long time!!
Amazing 😅
Sick dude, and dad wasn't bad either lol
Nice work dad
As an expecting father of a boy in 2 months, this gives an amazing feeling. Thank you and great playing. Also reminds me I need to learn how to change out floyd strings.
underrated \m/
I bet you wish your dad was this cool
@xx_senshi_xx he is my grandson. He will be 2 next month. Loves guitar.
@jriff79guitar oh epic.
My dad play metalica on guitar with me and we full on jam he can even play suicide and redemption out of the one hundred songs he can play 😂, this sounds amazing mate
4 years later and it's still helping people out 🤘
Wow, whats the settings? That sounds wicked. Raw power
Is there any way to learn how to do these mods? I'd like the resonance knob still work. Plus the effects loop mod, is it necessary after those mods? With less noise when not playing would be great. I have one Ii need to replace one of the input jacks so I thought about doing some mods on it as well. Thanks.
This video is probably 15 years old. Sounds terrible 😂
hell yeahhh
Can i play bass on it? or kryboard?
@christhedemocrat I have no idea. You will have to do some research. If you have a bass cabinet, you might be able to with matching impedance.
@@jriff79guitar Ok Thanks
With the mods it sounds like a Fender Twin with better gain. The mids are ooened and its less fizz. It isnt drastic and the same could be accomplished without thba pedal iMO
Vair vair nice! Thanks for posting

@dexlive9441 Well, thank you!! 🤘
dude edit your fucking video, cut all the black at the end out wtf man
You have to download all the patches and drivers to get the app to open. Running windows 10 on the lappy.
Hi I have the old 1990,no sound for years..no repair amp shop in my area willing to repair it😭
Yo brotha, do you still have this amp?
Is it easy to do the modification?
@constantinranis the R100 is super easy. You basically find the R100 resistor on the PCB board and either desolder it and solder and solid wire in its place, or just solder a bypass jumper right to the resistor leads. I do not recommend the bias potentiometer mod. There is no real audible benefit. The amplifier seems to perform best at the fixed bias.
@@jriff79guitar I still have my valve head but haven't used it a while and watching this video actually intrigued me to look at this piece of gear a lil bit more in depth..
@constantinranis the R100 is basically the same thing as putting a patch cable in the effects loop. It just takes the patch cable out of the equation. Removes resistance in the signal path. The factory set bias is the best. The way it is designed doesn't seem like the circuit likes hotter bias above 30mA. I set it to around 35mA, and it didn't seem to achieve that tube growl I like. Kinda flattened the response, so I set it back to 30mA.
@@jriff79guitar I'm more interested into put in recording situation, run it through load box and use IRS, have you tried to record or mix someone with it ?
@@constantinranis no I have not. I actually sold this amplifier after I made the mods and purchased an Egnater Armageddon. I don't do much recording.
Is there a drummer that can keep up with that beat? Lol
Of course!! Plenty of them out there. Some are even faster.
@jriff79guitar now that is some fucking cardio, 😆
@@JamesWilliams-vu8ht just checkout Archspire. Their drummer is insane.
I purchased a Spider 5 mk 2 60 watt. When I start the amp, all I see is a BLUE SCREEN. Nothing turns on, no flashy lights, no volume or anything. What should I do? How do I get started??
Exchange it. Its worth it
Future advice: having guitar be a bit louder in the mix would be nice. Otherwise nice work!
Thank you. I plan on re-recording this direct in soon. This is just a demo using my new phone.
Thx. But could have recorded the app in action.
Does this enable you to move patches around so they're more convenient when you use the foot pedal
I've had one of these since 2006, they kick ass! Need to get a load box for mine now that I'm no longer a broke 20 something.
What tuning are you in, D?
Why is it so hard to find somebody doing an HSS setup with EMGs? I can't find a video. They're all 2 humbucker or 3 singles for strats. I'm putting in an 81 and two SA's into a Jackson Soloist super strat body. And, I also ordered the EMG 5 way switch.
Righteous !
Dude you are a legend for this I love EMG but they need to update their guides big time after this headache
is there noise gate on board ??
Nope.Use a gate and a TS pedal and it sounds good.
You got a link to that cable?
Excellent playing mate 🤘 👍
Thanks so much!!
lets go !! keep it up and have a nice day :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is the lead at man?!?!?
I have two Line 6 Spider Valve MKII HD100 heads. With the MKII version, be sure you have the latest firmware installed from Line 6.
any differance?
Sick riffs my guy
awsm, that B52 wasnt bad either!
Just got a used one. Knob for presets if gone, switch is wonky and yes, the volume change. Probably needs tubes. Otherwise nice amp to play through for sure. The presets are just as playable not as forgiving though.
Where did you get the green wire does it come with one of the kits
I have 2 of these... I run 2 full stacks. I just run a rack mount e.q. these amps are awesome. You really don't need to use stomp pedals these amps have great tones. You just have to take the time to learn how to navigate it.
