Eddyline Skylark on the Delaware River - Dingman's to Bushkill
My first time on the Delaware River and I used the free River Runner Shuttle to go from Bushkill up to Dingman's. It was a great paddle with lots of wildlife and a thunderstorm on gorgeous water! The Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area is a tremendous place to explore, paddle, hike & camp!

Winter paddle on Wallenpaupack Creek in Ocean Kayak Malibu 9.5 and Kokatat drysuit demo

Lucked into a December bonus day and decided to get on the Wallenpaupack Creek for a winter paddle. While I was there a demo of my semi-drysuit seemed like a good idea. It didn't quite work out how I had planned.

DIY Firewood Shack at lake cabin
Просмотров 335Год назад
We recently purchased a cabin at the lake and hope to use it as a four season retreat. Of course this means lots of firewood for heat and firepit fun! I wanted something more appealing to the property that would store a fair amount of wood and let me age and rotate the wood as well. Anyone can do this project!

NICE OUTING, LV PINE CREEK IN FULL WATER HEIGHT AND FLOW.
No doubt! That was the best flow I've had on Pine Creek.
Ordering my 380x very soon …. Can’t wait!
It's a great boat. Enjoy!
I’m doing this section soon. I’ve been watching this series frequently
I'm glad to hear it. If I'm being honest the last two sections were probably my least favorite of the entire river!
Question: Did you have a skeg attached for this run?
No. No sked on big moving water.
@@bertsadventures9974 Thanks for the reply. I did notice elsewhere in the comments you had confirmed you weren’t using a skeg. I’m kinda new to this so what would your general strategy be to keep from getting turned around. I suspect paddle work for the most part?
@@masonfoley1276 just keep your stroke shorter to keep from spinning. Sit upright and stroke from your toes and no furnther than your hip. That should keep you going straight!
BY-THE-SEAT-OF-UR-WET-PANTS SURVIVOR OF DEMANDING WATER CONDITIONS!!!
It was challenge beyond my expectation or desire. It was not my finest moment, but a learning one.
Hello Burt. You are an inspiration. I’m buying a 380X tomorrow. Fortunately, I’m on flat water here in Missouri. Awesome
Thank you! I'm sure you'll love the boat! It is so versatile, you'll be able to do just about anything you want.
Was your buddy using the Razorlite have the skeg in? Looked like it was tracking good.
Nope. No skeg for the razorlite. I did have the swept back skeg in the Explorer, but I find that the RL really doesn't need the skeg for tracking.
Hey Bert! - I really enjoyed your trip down the Susquehanna! I've been on other parts of that river, and want to get up there again to do some more. Safe adventuring out there for you this summer!
Hey Cliff... anytime you want to come up to PA just let me know and we can get together!
@@bertsadventures9974 I will be up there in Lancaster this week, but only two nights for work. No time for fun. Thanks for the offer, will take you up on it sometime :-)
Love the video, proud owner of 380X in part due to your videos. Do you have a video that you discuss the gear you use, what water shoes you are wearing, and the process for adding additional d-rings and other customizations. I would respect your opinion and recommendations. Thank you!
Sea Eagle are the best ever. So great to be able to take them anywhere!😁
The new generation of inflatable kayaks really opens up boating to so many new people!
That spider on your head @ 18:40 to 19:00 😅
I guess he was getting out of the storm also and was long for the ride!
Haha, can't blame the little critter for that. Another great adventure video, Bert. You make RUclips fun. @bertsadventures9974
Badass video! I am going to mimic your trip very soon.
You won't regret it, but this river is a late Spring trip before the water levels drop too low to paddle. Check the gauges and I suggest only making the run at 2.5'+
I'll definitely check before driving up. I'm considering this weekend, since we just had all that rain. @@bertsadventures9974
Very cool video. I've got the 380x and I'm new to PA and researching paddle trips. This one looks great. Which outfitter did you use for shuttle? And did you have the large skeg in or one of the smaller ones? Note: I heard you mention the outfitter @29 min mark, so never mind that question. Endless Mountain Outfitter ☑️
I almost always use the swept back skeg sold by Sea Eagle. I don't notice any performance difference and it save about 4 or 5" of depth in rivers. EMO are a great operation!
Awesome! Thank you for that info; that's the one I will purchase.@@bertsadventures9974
good to see you back on the Explorer for this adventure, it is a workhorse of a boat for sure. looks like a fun stretch of river to explore. are you using a 5" cushion to sit on?
You got it, Steve. That is the 5" cushion on the high back seat. When I'm in the Razorlite I only use a 2" gel pad so my center of gravity isn't too high, but on the Explorer that's a non issue!
thanks for taking us along on this trip. i've planned but have yet to execute an overnight kayak camping trip from Milford to Smithfield.
Great video Bert. It's always a pleasure to see the beautiful rivers in your area. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rob! I didn’t get out much in 2023 so I’m trying to catch up on missed adventures!
I really enjoy your videos! I’m 6’3” and weigh between 260 and 280. I am trying to decide between a 300x and a 380x. Mostly looking for a kayak for smaller rivers and some class I/II along with lakes. I do fish but am not planning on this becoming a big fishing machine. Do you think the 300x is too small for me? Is there a big difference between the two kayaks in whitewater? Anyway, just throwing out some questions. Thank you!
I would really encourage you to go with the 380X. You'll simply be more comforatble and you will have no issues with class I-II. Longer kayaks are faster and paddle straighter so the 380 will be a much better fit for you.
@@bertsadventures9974 Thank you so much! I eally appreciate it!
Thanks for the informative and detailed review of various set-ups, Bert! I've been waffling back and forth between this and the 420x. Will have 2 people much of the time, but still want to be able to handle it solo. It looks like this will work for both, especially by mounting the seats higher to get more room for 2, while still being manageable for one on the river in the lower position.
Unless you'll have a lot of gear, I think the 380X will be perfect for your tandem paddling and still really good solo as well.
Sorry, I had to pass this one up. Looked like a nice one. I'm assuming you didn't pull in another trophy Striper out there?
Ha! Would have been fun to have you out there!
Awesome! I so missed watching your adventures! I bought a 380X because of your videos. I paddle tandem with my husband. We absolutely love it! Cheers from Ohio!
Wow! That means a lot and I'm really glad you are enjoying your 380X. It's a really great boat!
The return of Bert's Adventures!
That's solid recognition from Memeley! 😜
I noticed that your SE is 380X but it has side carry handles. I enjoy one too, but it came without those handles. Is it a custom addition by Sea Eagle or "do-it-yourself" modification?
Yes they are custom. I added about 6 d-rings and the handles. They give me a ton of flexibility to tie down gear or move my seat around. I also have a couple of different home made mounts (rod holders etc.) that I put across the pontoons that I strap down
There is a very good chance that car with the headlights was Themis Matsoukas looking for an audience. He has been spotted in that area 3 times in the last month. If it was him thankfully he left you alone.
😳
Listening to this thru my car stereo, when you bottom out, it sounds like incoming artillery😂
As a guy who spent some time with 8" howitzers in Korea... I don't disagree!
Nice to see you back in action!
Thank you! Last year was a kayaking wash for me, but I'm determined to have more time on the water this season!
Bert, will you be getting S.E.'s new EZLite 10 ? They look pretty sweat.
I'm hearing that Sea Eagle is already selling out of the EXLite 10! It looks like a great beginner boat for flat water only. Not sure how it will be on rivers or waves with low sides and no drain plugs.
Do you know what the gage height was for your trip? Do you think you could do the whole 18 miles in a 1 day trip? Thanks
I forget the number but it was borderline on the "good paddling" scale. We totally could have done the trip in one day!
I just got my new Sea Eagle 350FX. - I would love to meetup for a kayak outing sometime.
I like that kayak but I'm wondering if the seat you were using is good or if the other one you can get is better
My preferred setup when paddling the 380X is to use the high back seat along with the 5" cushion.
Where do you put in and where did you take out? Great video.
I think I discuss in the video, but we begin in Ansonia and ended at Rattlesnake Rock.
Try the fast track by sea eagle
If you've seen my other videos I have several Sea Eagel boats. Although I don't own a FastTrack I have paddled them and I still believe the Explorer is their best boat.
Wow thank you for the ideas and tips
It's been a pretty nice setup, but if I had to do over I would find a lighter material without sacrificing rigidity.
Do you have any dimensions you mind sharing? Of the wood used?
Add some cool shoes you got any chance you remember the brand name?
They are Merrell Hydro Mocs and I love them! Great all around shoes.
@@bertsadventures9974 thanks!
Thanks for posting. I want to start kayaking, just bought a kayak and looking for information about local spots to put-in and take-out.
Where are you located? If you watch my Schuylkill series you'll see many of the different launches I used.
Great, except for the pooch reference. I'd prefer some good old fashioned swearing. 😂 Google, Adam Britton NT Australia.
Thank you
Is the skeg in or out on this kind of white water?
Always skeg out for whitewater for maneuverability and you don't want to get hung up in shallows.
Whats the weight of the motor ? i was thinking about a gas you Think it would be possible ?
I highly doubt it, but maybe a little 2 or 3 hp would work. That trolliing motor is probably only 20ish pounds.
The smile this puts on your face tells it all!
Absolutely! Can't wait to get back out there!
Is the inflatable still working for you? Interested in trying them out.
Absolutely! I'm going to be back on Pine Creek next month in my Sea Eagle Explorer!
@@bertsadventures9974 we just got back a few days ago. We stayed in a cottage for a week near Jersey Mills. I will be watching for your next video.
@@ebikeadventuresinpennsylva4140 what were the water levels like?
@@bertsadventures9974 around 4’ in Cedar and Slate run
@@ebikeadventuresinpennsylva4140 that's a good level. Any higher and some of the rapids get washed out and just become waves.
Will you be doing this float again this year? I'm planning on floating it April 27th 28th.
I'm undecided if I'm gonna do Pine Creek or a multi-day trip on the North Branch Susquehanna.
How stable is this with the swivel seat setup? Looks comfortable for fishing flat water. What about paddling class 1 whitewater while seated up high? Would a locking swivel be better?
I find the boat to be very stable. Now if you do need to take care when you are spinning, but I've never had an issue at all. I've also used it on moving water without problem but usually with the trolling motor. You will need a pretty long paddle if you are seated upright and wanting to paddle.
Thanks for the info
Thks Bert. Lots of info.
Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck!
Why don't you have a fishing pole are you all a bunch of City slickers or what
So, obviously you didn't actually watch the video or else you would have seen not one, but two fishing poles on the back of my boat. But that being said, sometimes I float and fish and other times I am on the water just to paddle and don't take a rod with me. But hey, to each his own!
So what has made you decide to ditch the inflatables? Ive been watching some of your old videos and have really been looking at getting one of those explorers
Well this video in particular was for the Malibu Ocean kayaks, of which I have two. They are at my lake cabin for guests to use. Not for me. I still have my Sea Eagle Explorers and a Razorlite. I also have an Eddyline Skylark. I love all of them and use them for different purposes. The Explorer is an outstanding kayak and you won't be disappointed.
Thank you Bert for the excellent review! I just purchased the Sea Eagle 380X today. Cant wait to catch those fish!
I hope you enjoy it! That's a great boat that will be happy on flat or moving water!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Bert, Did you try being tandem + motor mounted? Is so, plz show! Motor shaft length? Could a stronger motor be used? I’m hyped!
Hay Bert good to see you again
It's good to be seen, John, thanks! I hope to be much more active with adventures in '24!
Thanks Bert, so nice to see you discovered the Skylark, it’s best seller among the Eddyline boats. The Equinox is the 14’ version with same cockpit size and features. I love my Skylark and it’s amazing how rare it is to ever find one for sale used, people rarely get rid of them. It’s such a stable and forgiving boat, and will fit a wide range of people too. For a 12 footer, the tracking, speed and edging/turning performance just blows away all of the big box store recreational kayaks. If these were more widely available and more folks were able to try them, they would never go back to those other kayaks. I have a couple polyethylene boats I like for floating the faster Ozark rivers with rock and gravel impact hazards (as you know thermoformed boats not best choice for that), but for most everything else, I will never get rid of my Skylark - it’s surprisingly stable even in some bigger waves on lakes too. Among my fleet of kayaks, I also often select this boat for winter paddling because of how easy it is to enter and exit while wearing the extra gear (semi-dry suit, etc). My only suggestion for you is, find a good fast standing wave somewhere shortly upstream of a river access, and go kayak surfing - this boat is really great for that! Have fun!
Thanks for the advice Barry! I have a nice wave near me but I think I might wait until spring to try that out in my Skylark! A trip to the Ozarks is on my bucket list!
