My ancestor fought at this battle and composed the "Düppeler Schanzen Marsch" (and also "Preußes Gloria" the music at the ed but witout these scratchy noises) which makes me proud on the one had but sad and questioning the necessity of war and people dying that way on the other hand.

I'm an American of German descent. My great-great grandfather came from a military family that was from East Prussia and his father had served in this war as well as later in the Franco-Prussian War. We still have some of his medals as heirlooms.

Till this day, in Schleswig-Holstein, we do a remembrance march together with the Danes once a year from Flensburg to Oeversee, where one big battle occured, to remember the dead and to renew our friendship with the Danes.
