I saw a RUclips couple of years ago who mentioned that on spoonflower you would lose your rights to your designe, they could go on and sell your designe. Maybe I remembered it wrong, the name of the youtuber was Mariah Pattie. The video is probably 2 or 3 years old, so maybe it is not like that anymore. But maybe the advice she gave is still valide? I believe the video was called: all about custom print or something like this. I am very excited for your job with kinky boots and if you do the teaching as good as you did your video of the bag I believe it will be great and you will have a good time teaching. Cannot wait to see some of the projects you mentioned. If it would not to much to ask, if you would come across fit issues in your projects, maybe you could explain, how you know, what to do about them, especially the trousers or the jumpsuit. Love to you and the rest of your family, Anna.

What a fun & ambitious 2025 you have planned! I wish you every success, & look forward to watching your progress. My sewing goal for 2025 is to make a yukata. I follow Billy Matsunaga, a German lady who is an expert in kimono design & styling. On her channel, she shows how to make all the elements of a kimono or yukata ensemble, &, since a friend is going to visit Czechia from Japan in the summer, I am determined that I will finally achieve this long-held goal, & show it off to them when they come. 🤞🏽

I made the Palisade trousers last year and they worked really well. I put off making them for ages as they seemed very complicated but I just followed the instructions to the letter and there were no problems at all and I love the trousers. I have also made the Westend jacket. It was the first jacket I ever made (and I made it in corduroy which was a bit overambitious!) but again it went well although I prefer the Julien chore jacket that I made after that. I will be very interested to see your cord Palisades though as the fabric looks great for this pattern.

Awesome, I can't wait to make my Palissade as they'll keep me nice and warm. I have a few things I need to finish first, but I can't wait to get to them! Are you on the discord or on Instagram? I'd love to see your West End vs your Julien. Ready to reconsider my pattern choice!

One other potential convincing point for making the jumpsuit now - if you do change sizes in the future and need a smaller size, it is much easier to alter a garment to be smaller than it is to make a garment larger. If you make it now, you can enjoy it as is, and it can be altered at a later time if needed, and that wouldn't be as possible if you waited to make it a smaller size and needed it to be larger later.

    • @LaFraiseSews

You are plenty qualified to teach sewing workshops! I hope it works out (and that it doesn't make your calendar too demanding!) Wonderful plans, I look forward to seeing them come to fruition--plus the sewalongs. :) I've taken some embroidery and block printing classes this past year and have also been thinking about carving something I could print onto fabric... maybe I'll tackle that as a late summer goal. I also want to try cyanotyping on fabric. I haven’t given much thought to sewing goals other than sewing down my small stash in the next 6 months because I'll be graduating (woohoo!) and moving.

I just wanted to say thanks for the info about viscose. I’m really interested in how fabric is produced, especially related to sustainability and the environment and it's not easy to find the source of fabrics from many local stores. I try to source a lot of my fabric from places that rescue fabrics from landfill. This also limits fabric choice to what they have sourced and a lot of it is polyester which I try to avoid. I also thought that viscose was an ok option but sadly no😢 Your Kinky Boots work experience sounds like so much fun. No boring costumes there!

    • @LaFraiseSews
      @LaFraiseSews 3 дня назад

They are some certified viscoses, but it’s hard to be sure how much better they really are. Tencel tends to be quite expensive, so for my part, I’ll probably still use some viscose, I just want to be mindful about it.

(I also love the Amelia dress and romper but my daughter had a 99th percentile head and I could barely fit it through the opening so I'm not going to make more of them). My daughter is also tall for her age and I always add at least 2 inches length. I agree that patterns should include finishing seams, its easy to forget to do it.

In the end, this model is very tight at the sleeves for my niece, but we're also not the most delicately built family, so maybe she has thick arms. Sewing for kids you don't have on hand isn't easy!

I made the elodie in a beautiful floral red rayon with the kimono sleeves and midi length. I was so pleased with my construction, and immediately my mom told me it looked like a dressing gown 😂🤦‍♀️ admittedly she was not wrong. It felt like such a wasted effort at first but it has made a wonderful house gown especially when I was pregnant.

OMG, such a sad ending for what sounded like a make you were really happy with. However, I can totally see this happening with this pattern! The fabric choice would be crucial to help with this. For my part, shortening the sleeves A LOT saved the piece. It really overpowered me beforehand.

@LaFraiseSews yes!! I will eventually resew it with short sleeves and shorten the length too with a better fabric.

OMG this is fabulous! I was exactly where you are but last January. I ended up chickening out because it was M-F all day and I have two school aged kids and the logistics were too hard for me but I think it's fabulous that you're doing this! I love love love it. I felt all those stresses myself. It can't wait to see how you go. Best luck! I was worried that they would only teach me how to sew standard measurements for dress forms and I would walk away still not knowing how to fit real bodies. I'm sure this is changing

I'm sorry you didn't get to start school (even though I also have a LOT of thoughts on "is this worth it", but that's for later on, once I have my ideas in order). As we are being trained for theatre and cinema, we do mostly custom sizes, which I think is great. Very little standard sizing (that's for the fashion design section of our school). I'm not going to lie, it's been very hard organisation-wise, and it's only 3 days a week. I'm in a real mix of loving it and wondering why I'm putting myself through this. I'll for sure do a Q&A on my first year at the end of the year, so maybe that'll be an interesting one for you 🙂 Our programme is 3 years.

@LaFraiseSews this is great to hear. I think you'll learn so much and that will bleed into your personal sewing in such a way that you'll be overjoyed. I took a pattern drafting course online which was the ultimate frustration for a variety of reasons but I've learnt sooo much which has improved my personal sewing in ways I can't even measure, it's lovely. I'm happy for you. I hope its great and sustainable.💖

@@LaFraiseSews I did the etelestia course. It's a Greek school with an online platform in a variety of languages. It's SUPER thorough, I bought their sewing course and their entire pattern drafting (women, men, kids). I learned SO MUCH! I haven't finished the mens and kids but I did a lot. However, their teaching style annoyed me and I regularly felt that it could have been done so much better. The videos give off vibes that they're from the 00's? After watching amazing RUclips tutorials it seemed like their videos really needed to be updated, especially for the price. And of course learning online has the benefits of online and the drawbacks... Not their fault, just the way it is.

Loved the video. I would raise all of your makes by at least one point. I love that you learned so much from your mistakes and tried creative things. The stash busting is awesome and inspiring. This year my best makes were :- Randolph skirt from sewing the curve book by Cashmerette. I made it in linen which is a dream to sew with. A fix for me would be to make it not show your legs when sitting down. The second was a top made out of cotton using the Basics tunic pattern from Folkwear. I love the neckline and ease of sewing. I have adapted this pattern to make an outfit for a friend. I don't really swear much either.

Oh this was so needed! I'm new into sewing-youtube 😅 so I don't know anyone you haven't mentioned sewing-wise. Regarding those cozy vibes and that style of video though, I can recommend you a few other people you might enjoy from other crafts: I think you would very much enjoy Christy Anne Jones who is an author from Australia and does these really calm vlogs (start with anything called "day/week in the life of an author", etc). Another very calm and cosy channel is called "Rewilding Jude" and he is a Brit who used to make handdyed yarns for knitting, but has recently ended that business and moved into a tiny old cottage in rural Scotland and started renovating and gardening, but yeah I'm convinced that the type pof videos he makes is right up your alley. Very fresh channel (only 3 months or so) so I'm not gonna recommend a specific video, just start from the beginning! 😅

Thanks for all these tips! I definitely didn't know all of them before. One podcast I've started listening to recently is Check Your Thread which is about trying to be more aware of sustainability in your sewing projects. A couple of episodes to start with would be either ep 151 where she chats with someone about what deadstock fabric really means and how there are different interpretations of the term, and episode 164 (currently the latest one) which is her chatting with two sewing friends about their sewing wins and fails in 2024. I like the topics so far, though I find the host a bit INTENSE in a very British way lol, and the sound quality in the interviews is sometimes a bit low quality in my opinion from the guest's side.
