Bradley Fine Line Design Intro! Radio Controlled Car Airbrush Painting
For someone new, like myself thinking about trying some air brush work. You have a video on your air brush/compressor combo. And are you using a air/water seperator?
@@1rcracer thanks for the question. Here is the link for my air compressor that I use. I do have a video showing the IWATA airbrushes that I use. I do not use a separator or moisture trap. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again. @BradleyFineLineDesign thank you for that info! Im gunna dig a little more into a set up see how i fair at my own paints.
You're doing an awesome job with these videos, and the lengthier the better! You could record every second of your whole process from start to finish and i would watch all of it.
@@markbonham2648 thank you very much. I appreciate you.
please do a video on air pressure. I've never gone above 30. I'll try more.
Great video, very helpful!
Such great information! Thank you!
Cool video man thanks a lot
Subscribing, thanks. I too want to see how you make the window trim a diff color
Great info and great looking truck!
Another great video, thank you! These are exactly the answers I've been needing. I have a question that's somewhat on topic, what do you use for shadows? I tried Createx transparent black with maybe 10% 4011, around 15-18 psi, with .5 needle, and it turned out darker/more opaque than I'd hoped for. I'm sure i just simply overdid it and sprayed too much, but maybe you could suggest something else?
@@markbonham2648 thanks for the question. I would use the exact same product that you used just to go lighter. It’s so easy to apply too much and make it too heavy looking. Most of the time, less is better. Just practice it more going lighter.
Great Job!
What size needle are you using in your airbrush?
.35
Thank you for this channel. I so excited to see where this goes. I’ve been looking for tips and techniques to improve my process. I haven’t watch the design and layout video yet but honestly was looking for something like this last weekend. I’m super excited thank you for your time and knowledge.
Appreciate you watching. I have a lot more to come
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing knowledge of process and technique that took years of hard work and dedication to refine. Very generous of you and it's much appreciated! Also - that's some extremely nice penmanship!
Thanks for watching!!
Do you cut all the lines at once or as you paint?
All lines are cut before any paint is applied.
Perfect. Straight to the point. Exactly the info I was looking for. Keep up the great work.
some bodies are not symmetrical (not naming brands) ... so your left side template will be very off when you trace it on the right side.
You are correct. You may have to adjust the location of the template on the body itself when you find a body that is off. The template will still make it the same size, but the location will change. Thanks for the comments👍🏼
@@BradleyFineLineDesign How do you deal with cutting the mask of ultra lightweight bodies? How much liquid mask do you use and how do you know how much pressure do you need to cut the mask without damaging the body?
Great video thanks! Can you show us *how* you paint the flames and the borders around the flames? Same for the windows and the borders around them.
Great explanation!
You’re awesome, thanks so much!
Awesome stuff, Bradley! Thanks so much for all you do!
I love this video, it helped me a lot when I first found it on fb. I'd love to see something on getting smoother longer curved lines, especially tight ones like for flame designs, etc. Like if you cut to a certain point and resume, or if you pull the full curve.
Thanks for the very informative video, i liked the way you've explained the differences between brands without being biased to one particular brand. I've only just gotten into painting rc body's more than one colour, at the moment I've sprayed two 1/7 scale using bittydesign but will also try the proline brand just to see the difference and I'll try your method using a brush as i did think to myself while spraying it there was a lot of wasted overspray. Ive just subscribed to your channel
@@andrewwhiting5526 Thanks for viewing!! I’ll have plenty more to come!
Have promised to never paint a body my self. (To picky. To little arts skills.) 😅 Content likes yours is dangerous to having me reconsider though. Really like the layout on this one. Would love to see future videos covering the process of coming up with a design, choosing colors and cutting the mask.
@@andli461 thanks for watching and the feedback. I will be doing more videos and clips for the topics you mentioned.
This is by far one of the most educative rc airbrush related channels, thank you! You explain everything very detailed (many forget) and in a calm way so it's easy to understand, even for someone who's mother tongue ain't English. I got myself a descent airbrush and I will paint 1/10 offroad bodies in particular. The thing I struggle the most with is finding a good paint scheme... I'm not into the flame-ish style. I like more the onroad layout like used on touring cars (the one you used for the 1/12 GT in grey is awesome). I will watch the rest of your video's to prepare myself so I can start painting this weekend 🤞🏻😊 . Keep up the great work and thanks again!
@@Slatanicmushroom Thanks for watching and the feedback. Just scratching the surface. I have a lot more to come. Enjoy!
I’m always looking to improve my skills thank you for the tutorial
@@Booster388 thanks for watching!
thanks great information
Im part of the people who spray the liquid mask but i see everyone saying an hvlp gun, i just use the cheapest spray gun from harbor freight (~$20) hooked up to my air compressor. Ive painted it before and it works but I prefer spraying it but i usually wait until i have a batch of bodies. Its not necessary to have the spray guy but i prefer the convenience. I also use a hair dryer on low or no heat, so pretty much everything he said not to do hahaha. I use proline LM still though, I've tried a few others and proline is my favorite
@@broccli2007 thanks for your reply and comments! If it works for you, why change it. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video! As a somewhat beginner still, I’ve found that it’s time to move on from the “Amazon Special”. As I mainly do 1/10 bodies, do you think the HPCR would still be good even though the HPCS would have a finer tip? Curious to hear your experience!
@@LawsonDrinkwater Thanks for watching! If you’re only doing 1/10 bodies, honestly the HPCS will be all that you will need. You can get a pretty decent pattern with it and coverage won’t be an issue. Best of both worlds.
I went back to brushing on LM and never looked back. So much quicker and less hassle and waste.
@@matthewbyrd398 True dat!! Thanks for watching!!
you waste to much with brush, hvlp is the recommended procedure , stuff works great and i also still use tapes etc . big time saver , early 70's elmers glue worked fine, even a 200 buck airbrush it doen/t work , small hvlp touch up gun. 2 quick heavy coats.
@@MrBumbles2 thanks for the comments.
Great video bro! Can you make a follow up video to this one on how to do window trim of a different color and some simple designs and how you paint your vehicles?
@@MaximumRC_ thanks for watching!! Can do!
Thanks for sharing ! I’ve been painting for years and never thought about the patch . I usually use masking tape and fine line tape.
Good video. I've been spraying mine through an hvlp gun. It goes on super smooth and even. I used a brush for years till I tried spraying it. With a little water to thin it and also I use a filter for the chunks. It comes out super smooth, takes about 3-4 light coats. Makes cutting it way easier and more consistent. Thanks for the video
Do you have an estimate of how long between coat application you wait? 30 minutes? 1 hour? Also, once you have applied all 3 coats, how long do you let it cure before you begin cutting it? 1 day? 1 week? Thanks and great video!
@@RonniePrince great questions! Usually depends on the temperature. Most times the coats will dry in 3-4 hours. The first coat will usually dry sooner. You will see the color of the mask turn clear when totally dry. You can cut as soon as everything is clear. It will always have a tacky feel to it. Thanks for watching
Always great information! These are a huge help
Thanks for the tips. Have you tried clear coating the whole bare shell and then applying liquid mask and cutting design? It would be easier than shooting clear before every mask section.
@@nicadams2575 I have not tried that but will attempt it. The only thing is I’m not sure how the mask will work over the clear and not all areas need the clear on it. I will try it. Thanks for checking out the video and the question.
@@BradleyFineLineDesign Great! Looking forward to the outcome. Cheers from Australia

Great tip, 100% I’ll be investing in one of these
Hey Bradley, followed your work for years and absolutely delighted to see you’re doing a tips/tutorials series. Thank you so much for sharing.
I sometimes spray the inside of the body with a clear pearl. Then I paint over that and gives it a subtle pearl effect.
Hey Bradley, does it need more than one coat?
@@markbonham2648 I typically use 2 light coats. That gives it a pretty flat/satin look. Use hairdryer between coats. Dries in about 45 seconds.
@BradleyFineLineDesign Gotcha, thanks for the reply. Love your channel, please keep em coming!

@@virtualreality4me544 thanks for watching. I will have those topics in the near future.
Thanks for all the tips!
Thanks for checking it out and give it a try!
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to show us a decent solution. I’ve been using the isopropyl alcohol method and have noticed a few times my mask is lifting its neighbours when I don’t want it to.
Thanks for checking it out! More to come!
Will the 4050 UVLS clear work for this trick?
I’m sure it would probably work the same way. I’ve never used it but I would not hesitate to. A little more expensive than the regular Createx. I think this is meant to be used as a blocker. I would give it a try if you already have it. Thanks for the question.
@@BradleyFineLineDesign Cheers man. Loving the vids 🙂
4050 does do the same thing, re static and ghostfarts. I've used it before spraying fluorescents but i've had the paint peel with impact, so i'm looking for a process with better adhesion. I have been scuffing the shell more now though. I have 5603 matte top coat, which i use for frosting wings, and they always sticks pretty well. I'll try that next i think.
@@neallewis1 Yeah just tried the 4050 on some box art vintage bodies, works a treat for ghostys etc. Untested so far on bodies that will get thrashed tho. Ive been throwing in a few % of 4050 with all my Createx paint and have had zero issues with adhesion.
Love the videos. Such great information
I am slowly learning to paint my RC car bodies. I had a Passche airbrush. Always clogging and not spraying. I just got an Iwata Eclipse and it’s much better. I have to remind myself as I’m spraying to first stop the paint flow then stop the air. If you don’t when u start again you’ll get some splatter or droplets. It also keeps the tip clear during breaks while drying coats. Can’t wait for future videos. Would love detailed videos to help us all learn. Thanks!!
@@richardsak887 Thanks for the comments. I’m sure you will enjoy the new gun. I’ll start doing more detailed videos involving techniques and processes. Thanks again!
Cool video and vintage body too!
