This is fantastic. I wish you made this video years ago. People are still spouting Rose Anvil bunk about “leatherboard”. Guess what leatherboard breaks in faster than full veg tanned leather and is lighter and works fine. You don’t need off road mud tires on a Honda civic
I have two pair of Thorogood's moc toe and round toe. I work in both pair of those boots and one pair i have own since 2017 and i have used and abused them on construction sites. I also own two pair of Whites that I wear causually when I have extended periods of time off from work. I'm just an everyday blue collar guy wheather I''m at work or not.
I have 2 pairs of boots for work and 1 pair of JK OT for hiking/fishing, as i got tired of the AZ desert tearing up $200 boots after 3 months.
I would’ve never purchased the Rugged African trooper if not for watching Rose Anvil, or started buying Viberg if not for RUclips, I have no regrets but everything this man says is truth!
Hey. Good video. There are not a lot of channels with solid information on western boots compared to the the amount talking about PNW boots. So keep the content coming. Thanks.

cool topic!
I haven’t seen other reviews talk about the foam insole working with the leather insole on these. I wonder if they’re using the same manufacturer as the much more pricey Chisos boots? That’s the only other heritage made brand I know that specifically designed the last sizing to accommodate for the foam insole. Thanks for the thorough and honest review 👍
@@MemphisCorollaS I have owned 2 pair of chisos and those insoles are completely different and specific to those boots. They were very squishy but they just weren’t for me. I still like a solid feeling under foot. My chisos felt like walking in high heeled Nike sneakers lol. Thanks for commenting. God Bless
Speaking of experience with “soft-tempered” leather. I had a pair of Jim Green Vellie’s that my pinkie-toe knuckle rubbed through and made a hole after a few months of wear. They’re roughout leather is too soft and too thin. This is the reason why I’m not buying their new PNW style boots, sadly.
@@LastNineBreaker dang man that’s stinks. I haven’t heard of that before on Jim greens but I will definitely keep an eye out for it on mine. The vellies are single lasted which might contribute to a certain degree. Their “heavy duty boots are all double lasted but that still shouldn’t have happened. Super unfortunate. Very good to keep this in perspective. I think the appeal of Nicks and such for casual fashion users is that when you learn the way high quality footwear is made, you begin to respect them simply for their craftsmanship. Its like owning a Ford Mustang. Nobody needs a car that has a 4 second 0-60, but people appreciate the engineering and the visceral experience of using it. The problem is when it becomes like the people who trick themselves into thinking they need to own a pickup truck when they are a suburban soccer mom who loads the bed less than once a year. Companies want to sell you this fantasy self that if you own this product you can be this certain type of person.

I have 3 pairs of OT’s. Black one’s for when having to dress up a little nicer like Dinner or get together’s. Brown ones for everyday time if work, even to work out in, and my grey OT pros’s for more of a lunch, running errands, days off kinda wear.
@@SoccerSticks348 that’s awesome man. I’ve always been interested in getting a pair of Jks in their grey leather. I think it’s got a super unique look even compared to other grey leathers on the market. Thanks for watching and commenting. God Bless.
Quick question, why do you not want to oil them with obenauf’s?
@@SoccerSticks348 just because obenauf’s will substantially darken the mocha rough out and make it more of a dark brown. And for these boots that won’t see the abuse of hard work or severe exposure to chemicals and elements I just don’t need to oil them with obenaufs cause I really want to preserve that light mocha color. I use obenaufs on all my heavy duty work boots though. I’m a huge fan a love it. Just not for my more “casual” boots. Thanks for commenting. God Bless.

Have you looked at Urban Wolf Club? I have 3 pairs of PNW, pair of Parkhurst and others but for the price I really like my UWCs. Very casual but you can dress them up, too. Check 'em out if you have time. I wear my arch support boots for work but like you said I don't always need it, especially if I'm not going to be standing for 8-10-12 hours. I stock shelves at a major retail chain, I'm on finished cement and my job doesn't tear up my boots but maaaaan does that arch support do wonders for me. My PNWs could last me 15 years if I take care of them, or more.
@@averyj.steele1074 I know of them and have watched videos on them but I have never owned a pair. I have heard very good things about them for the price point they come in at though. Only reason I’ve stayed away is because most of their offerings have more of a service boot aesthetic which isn’t as much my style. Also I agree 100% about your PNW boots. Thanks for watching and commenting. God Bless.
Great perspective, man! I have 3 Thursday boots on rotation and had them for 5 years and I haven't bought new footwear since. Are they the best boots out there? No. But I'm an accountant and they suit my needs well. More money for other stuff and taking care of family. :) Subscribed!

Thanks for this video, i feel like i should have met you a year or two ago. Thankfully i bought a pair of jim green boots a year or two ago, but I settled on russell moccassin zephyrs that ill wear casually everyday. The quick on and off, from the zippers and the conformity of the moccassin and the waterproofness of the random need for it.
@@PersecutedTruth i love my Jim greens and Russell’s are some of the coolest boots on the planet in my opinion. I just don’t have a practical use for them or I would have already bought a pair. I appreciate you watching and commenting. God Bless.
@Realboottalk thank you, God bless you as well.
What's your favorite boot brand so far?
I guess I should add for work primarily. I was looking at those JK westerns as I already wear their loggers.
@@Berny2G I believe Black Jack Boots makes the best “production” boots I’ve ever worn or handled. They are superb in every way. Construction, styling, durability, and once they are broken in I’ve found them very comfortable. Texasbootcompany.com is a good place to look at some of their styles online if you’re interested. Thanks for commenting. God Bless.
@ for work I think Anderson bean makes a damn tough boot that is fairly price for the quality you’re getting. Olathe is also a good option. They are a part of the same family as Anderson bean they just have some different styling. Blake Jack also has some standard leather options in that 400 to 450 dollar range.
@@Realboottalk Thank you for taking the time to get back with such a detailed response, I'll certainly give them all a look.
@Realboottalk Anderson Bean boots are extremely well made as well as their Leon Mexico sister company Horsepower Top Hand
Also whats up with Cody James? I cant get a read on them. Are they good boots are they meh boots? I felt a few at BB and I wasn’t to impressed kinda felt cheap in some areas but decent in others idk lol I wouldn’t buyem tho
@@yaboiimarc9857 I personally don’t like Cody James boots. They are a typical run of the mill mass produced boot. I would stay away from them for the most part unless it’s just to have a pair of boots in the closet for the sake of it. They did come out with a premium collection last year that I haven’t had a chance to look at thoroughly but in general I’d say to stay away from them. Thanks for commenting. God Bless
That makes sense, they’ve recently really pushed hard in terms of marketing and I dont mind it. They recently opened a store front in San Diego (of all places lol) and the people you see buying these boots are the casuals who just want comfy boots they’re gonna wear to the rodeo in January and put them in the closet and maybe bust them out every once in awhile so it makes sense they would make them more casually. I don’t agree with the price tho too high for what they are but it helps with there reputation and there brand perception more expensive = more better to the casual non western crowd
@@yaboiimarc9857 Tecovas has definitely filled an space in the market that is great for a lot of people. And I always like to see more people getting into boots and high quality footwear. I just think people need to be well informed on exactly what they are buying. That being said Tecovas are great for what they are as long as they are used for that purpose. Thanks for commenting. Great video and great points! I've felt the same way listening to a lot of videos. How can you review a product you've never actually used? My favorite was when a reviewer said his 2 weeks wear was equivalent to 3 months wear for a normal person. He's an office worker. Must be one crazy office because I'm a steel mill worker. I tear stuff up quick because steel trumps leather every time.
Good video. Good message. 👍 If you genuinely want that top-tier pair of boots, then go for it. Wear what you want and enjoy it. 100%. But, that being said, take some time to think about it. Make sure it's what you really want. And know that, depending on what you do for a living, a middle-of-the-road boot may last you for as long as you could possibly want. I own a pair of Thursday Captains and work as a teacher. I've had the boots for 4 or 5 years and wear them about 70% of the time, and i often walk to work (a 20-minute walk). I've had them resoled once, and the boots are still in great shape; about once a week, I'll get a compliment on them. Recently, i decided to get a 2nd pair of boots, and i toyed with the idea of getting a pair of Vibergs. I was seriously considering it but decided not to. They're beautiful, great boots, and I'd _love_ to have a pair, but i decided that for me, personally, i couldn't justify the price. Instead, I got a pair of service boots from Canada West (a company out of Winnipeg, MB). In terms of construction quality, they can't compare with a pair of Vibergs, but, for me, I suspect they'll do. (I say, "suspect" because I just got them. I haven't even broken them in yet). And in terms of style/aesthetic, they're not bad at all. Again, they're no Vibergs, but they caught my eye. So, anyway, are the boots magnificent in the same way that a pair of Vibergs are? No. But they meet my needs and wants, and I paid about 25% of what i would've otherwise paid for the Vibergs. So, if you want the expensive boots, then get them. In fact, I'll be looking at your feet with envy as you walk past. But just be sure before you buy. Get what makes sense for you.
I find them overpriced for what they are.
I also found they ran extremely small and more narrow overall than expected.
I want taller shafts. E'en if I'm neigh on horsies, Riding Boots shouldn't be short like Ropers.
Next get a pair o' Chisos and spend twice as much for basically the same style of Evening Wear, right? But they have more nice-looking patterns and such.
You can have a celastic heel fail just from walking around, though. The arch support issue is an actual thing for people who NEED the arch support, though, that they WON'T get from the Thirsty Challenger and will hafta phase them out for higher quality things w' time after they realize that they CAN'T just wear Chuck's sneakers or e'en Captain boots out the bar on occasion anymore. I think the Boot Bros were mostly addressing the OT model of the JK as being marketed as same durability as JK Superduty while being a more disposable boot. So they were also comparing JK unfavorably to other companies in other areas, too, but I don't recall the whole discussion there, but yes, despite the fit issues, my OT boots will make fine clodhoppers once in awhile until I can get them rebuilt when they need a new outsole. They are in a better position than Teik or Dale for functionality discussion, but they also want to criticize Rose while refusing t' take a more definitive stance on WHAT is the best for each: 1 day ago I evaluate lots of things, but as far as your conversation here so far I'm evaluating absolutely nothing. Cuz I don't yet know what evaluation is being asked of me. Or what question you are asking yourself. But I'm pretty sure whatever the question is the answer isn't necessarily PNW only. So again, what is the exact question? I asked the same question TWICE about how exactly are the other GYW boots significantly better than Thirsty t' justify the price difference and if there were any quality work boots overall that aren't PNW and this is what I get in response? Cop out??? At least Rose, for all his faults, holds up different models of shoes; shows you the components and the price, and then gives a less wishy-washy opinion most the time? I don't know how many people buy crap boots because he gives the green light or if they just like t' see the band saw, butiIt's a simple enough format and has OVER A MILLION SUBSCRIBERS, so if anyone gonna give better info than him, better find a good gimmick that people wanna watch instead just criticize him, etc.
I don't think a GYWelt is much less flexible overall. I think the Grant Stone boots for SALE PRICE are typically a good find and I did have issue w' shoe trees prematurely deflating and deforming the poron in the Thirsty Prez boots, that which I would hope the leather insoles would hold up better in the closet under such circumstances t' remain better fit and LAST LONGER....
Steel shank kinda same issue as the arch support from before. Except fior wedge soles, REALLY gonna notice the lack o' support in very short time just taking a walk. Maybe your feet don't hurt so much now, but get back t' me in 5 - 10 yrs? I wore stupid sneakers too much until I was 30 and shoulda been wearing Big Boy shoes more often in my 20s, sure.
The Honda might also be the choice if you are doing something like cement work where they ruined in 3 months e'en if neigh WORN OUT, yes, we know. BUT what I am mostly sick of seeing is guys running around trying t' figure out which crappy pair of Wal-Fart or Amzn boots is THE BEST for under $100 when everything under $200 is likely shouldn't be produced for the NEEDS that guys who do REAL WORK or whatever NEED. That's why more of them probably SHOULD have something more like PNW boots e'en if only the hipsters can afford and still wanna argue that the Challenger JUST AS GOOD, etc. No, they're NOT the same thing.
@@Highland_Paddy thanks for watching and commenting man. I understand completely that some people need arch support. But most people for everyday mundane actives don’t need it to walk around town for a couple hours.
