    Bought my 06 v8 4 runner for 16k with 80k miles. I put over 10k into maintenance in the last 5 years. On top of that I have around 15k so far into my build. custom front winch bumper and back bumper with swing out, bilstein/OME lift with SPC upper control arm and maintainable ball, diode dynamics max fog lighting, ditch lights, and 50’ light bar, putting 33s maybe 34s on next week and ordering roof tent with awning. I know I’m forgetting stuff but that’s my build basically. Oh yeah, my father in law is a car painter by trade. He owns his business. I’m trying to talk him into painting my 4Runner with something cool. I’ll tell him whatever he’s got laying around and he will probably throw down some sick flake paint or something 😂

      Not anything substantial.. This is really just more of an adventure rig now for me, so I knew I wasn’t going to do any rock crawling or anything close to that. I would say that this more like if you hope not to use them, but they’ll keep you from ripping off your oil pan if you do. Steel skids if you know you’ll use them regularly. These feel beefier than the TRD pro skid plate on my Tacoma and I’ve seen people beat the crap out of those 🤷‍♂️

    Aside from the rear wheel bearing noise which is loud af and the dealership giving me the run around on them fixing it i love my 2007 4 runner. It has the usual rock chips on the hood because the previous owner never installed a rock guard on the hood to keep that from happening. I absolutely love my 4 runner. I was a mechanic for 18 years and am pretty much gonna do all the work myself. I cant wait until i get that last payment in and the title to start the work on the 4 runner.

    Hey bud, I’m having issues with my 05 4runner. Going up hill or even through neighborhood streets my 4runner shakes/shutters. Between 1000-1500 RPM or 30-40 Mph. If I let off or gas it. It goes away finally took it the dealership and said I need a NEW tranny. I just am reaching out to see if your experience is the same as mine. I feel that my tranny is slipping. It definitely sounds like it’s struggling to switch gears and go up hill. Super violent shaking/shutter

  • @casewhitted1808

    After watching your vid you mentioned transmission issues. I’m going down this rabbit hole myself. What exactly was going on with the rig?

    • @salsarunner
      @salsarunner 10 месяцев назад

      My disclaimer is that I am no mechanic lol.. but from my understanding the torque converter is failing to lock up; meaning the torque converter is trying to lock into a higher overdrive gear and unable to do so. That’s why if you accelerate quickly or manually shift your transmission it won’t happen, bc the truck never goes into overdrive. Overdrive is basically a change in gear ratio so that your drive shaft spins faster than the engine. This is supposed to improve gas milage at higher speeds. This is my very basic understanding of what’s actually happening. Does that answer your question?

  • @guintub
    @guintub 10 месяцев назад

      I still get my oil changed at the dealership lol at this point I just think it’s cool that it’s never happened anywhere else. I think my next video is going to be about everything that’s broken or gone wrong in the trucks lifespan.

  • @justinh6786
    @justinh6786 11 месяцев назад

    Mine has been rumbling for a few months. I'm at 234K miles. Never changed/drained the transmission fluid. I've talked to two different mechanics and they both said not to touch it because if you flush it it may never run again because it could kick up all the gunk in the bottom and ruin it. No one here seems to mention "be careful" or "it's a risk" to change it when there are that many miles on it so I'm a little confused. Has anyone else heard not to touch it in this scenario? I'm supposed to be driving across country soon hauling a U-haul and don't want to break down because I tried something a few mechanics recommended not doing.

    • @salsarunner
      @salsarunner 11 месяцев назад

      I thought I mentioned this in the video, but maybe I didn’t… I think the general recommendation is that if your past 100k and still on the original fluid then it’s a risk. That being said, driving around with a bad torque converter is also a risk. I mean, your transmission is already broken right? It’s just not broken enough to keep you from driving right now. For what it’s worth, I did mine at like 200k and I’m now at 240k and all is well. I also just drove a uhaul trailer from Washington state to Florida and didn’t have any issues. Not saying that will be true for you. Ultimately, if you’re not in a position to fix your transmission if it does grenade it.. then I probably would just leave it alone. Good luck!

    • @salsarunner
      @salsarunner 11 месяцев назад

      Also, there’s a big difference between doing a drain and fill and a pressurized transmission “flush”. Although I’m pretty sure a mechanic would tell you both are bad if your transmissions never been opened

    • @justinh6786
      @justinh6786 10 месяцев назад

      @@salsarunner UPDATE: when the mechanic and i drove it around he showed me that when i drive it clutchless manual it takes the torque converter out of play. I drove it from Florida to Minnesota over 3 days using manual until i hit 60 then put it in drive for 5th gear. It worked fine and I had no issues. I’ll probably have to sell it now that I’m here for a bit. It was just the day before the trip when I left my first comment and I didn’t have a lot of options. Thanks for the info!
