Thanks Dan, mystery solved. I put up with this on off problem for 2 years. Sorted it! 😊
@@neildonohoe106 hi, thanks for watching and commenting. Glad the vid helped out👍
Thanks mate, very helpfull info for me! Could you please share the info about this spare parts and where did you buy them? I have exactly the same promlem with my passat b5.5 and I can't find this spare parts for my car
@@АндрейВ-х9ц Thanks for watching and commenting. There's loads of these on eBay which is where I bought mine and they're pretty cheap prices at the moment. If you type in the following you'll find them on eBay:- New Breather Hose Valve Fits AUDI VW A4 Avant A6 Passat 06B103211H,06B103211J. Good luck and hope it goes ok. I suggest taking off the whole air intake so you can push it down hard enough to put the retainer clip back in.
@@dandantherepairmanthank you very much! I’ll try to find it👍 A few mechanics refused to repair it, that’s why I decided to sort it myself 😂
@@АндрейВ-х9ц no problem. I hope it goes ok. I don't know why they wouldn't want to do it, it's not that difficult on this model. One other thing I just thought of, if you do take the whole air intake off, it's a good idea to have a spare dipstick tube because they can be tricky and break off as the plastic becomes brittle over time.
@@dandantherepairman okay, thanks for the advice, I’ll try to make it gentle 👍

Absolute genius!!!! Haha. Same principle as using a multimeter.
@@bittertruth6575 Sure is, but try getting the multi meter tips on the contact sides of the LED without taking off the lens😉 that's why I prefer my method as you can more easily scratch through the surface paint to the copper beneath with pins. Good point though...cheers👍
Many thanks for making this - I couldn't work out where the spring came from when I was just trying to fix mine.

What size is the socket for the hub nut
@@dieseldawg7132 Hi, thanks for watching. So on my vehicle the hex bit is 14mm to undo the centre hub bolt from the driveshaft. Another viewer disagreed as he said on his it was 17mm but I can only say on my model, it's definitely 14mm. Worth measuring first if you're not sure as I imagine VW might have used different sizes or types on different models.
@@dandantherepairman thanks yea I tried the 14mm the other day n was a bit small also had the 17mm, ended up driving to the shop just to get it since I didn’t have one at home I am working on a tdi Passat 2016. I’m needing to do. A turbo replacement and of course alot of things need to come down from the bottom….
@@dieseldawg7132 ah yes, I expect that'll be a fairly big task. Mines a 2.0 petrol so no turbo to worry about luckily. I find it's very beneficial to have a range of large hex bits, triple square bits and torx bits to work on these vdubs, you never know what surprise bolt types going to appear next lol. Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly 🤞
Extremely helpful. I wouldn’t have attempted this without your detailed guidance. Thanks so much Dan
@@55jiggy Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm pleased the vid helped out👍
How did you losen the bolts mine are bit rusty and stuck
@@micmictover1420 hi, thanks for watching. So the 3 bolts that hold the downpipe to the middle pipe, I was lucky in that they undid fairly easily. I did use penetrating fluid first though to make it easier. Give them a good soak and give it time to work in, also could use some heat maybe. It's a hard to reach spot under there so if you can't loosen them, would have to figure a way to cut them off. Best of luck with it 👍. Hardest part is trying to counter hold the bolt while you're on the other side doing up the nut, I wished I'd had a second person really.
For anyone here in 2024, check the wires inside the plug are making contact with the pins correctly, the screw in mine had simply come loose!
Best video to show placement of the spring. Thank you
Thanks for watching and the positive comment 👍
Hi, great video. Do you know the part number of the handle as mine has broken into loads of pieces. Many thanks
Hi, thanks for watching. Unfortunately I don't know what that part number was because I fixed the existing part. I would go by the model number printed on the label if it's still visible and do an internet search on it, as long as you find one compatible with that model, it'll be fine. Should be fairly available since they are very brittle and prone to breaking. I hope that helps 👍
Hi I have exactly the same problem, gasket completely gone, what material did you use and what is diameter of original gasket ? ;-) All I could get loca!my where I am is 5" diameter gasket with only one central hole , what is the required diameter of the other offset hole please ? Appreciate any help that you can give me btw ;-). Thanks ! Phillip
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. It was something I did quite a long time ago now so unfortunately I don't remember any of the sizes. I just had a piece of clear thick plastic lying around that was sturdy enough to stay flat to pull the water upwards but flexible enough to bend to let it drop back down through the water in the tank. It was the kind you usually get in garden centers for covering plants etc (which is exactly where it came from). All I did was draw around the bad one with a marker as a template and cut it out with scissors. Still working ok three years later so does do the trick. Best of luck with it and hope it goes well.
Thx for helping out
Hi Dan, great tutorial, thankyou. Are all triggers on these apparatus universal? Just took mine apart on a T-mech strimmer and there's bits and springs everywhere!!!
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I imagine a lot are mostly universal but of course some manufacturers will have used their own designs too so will be a case of careful looking and logical thinking to figure out, I hope it works out ok🤞
@@dandantherepairman Many Thanks
Where can you buy a spare trigger from?
Hi, thanks for watching. The only places I'd imagine would be eBay, maybe Amazon or of course garden tools and equipment shops. Would have to do a bit of online searching I reckon. Good luck with the search, hope you find what you need🙏👍
Thank you so much I will have a go tomorrow, I was mowing the lawn today so half way i was reversing and the mower ran through the cable I had to remove the top bit and attach the remaining cable the fitting was a bit challenging but now after watching your video I think I’ll be able to do it properly
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. Oops, you have to be so careful not to run over the cables and of course very lucky you didn't get a shock!. I'm glad if the video helps out and good luck with it but do please exercise caution and be safe when working with mains voltage electricity 🙏👍
thanks dan you got me sorted...the little spring came of its mounting and i didnt know how to put it back..cheers
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting, it's a pleasure to have helped👍
my passat b5.5 has no sensor there
Interesting, must be a different engine maybe, I expect there's some variations. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Dan, much appreciated, I was sure it was somewhere under the dash but having felt around the area I realised I hadn't been looking quite deep enough into the footwell. your video showed me exactly where to find it. briliant, thanks.
Hi and thanks for watching and commenting. I'm really pleased that the video has helped out🙏👍
Thanks for the video! Helped me with my Ace 250 and got it working again after a battery leaked 👍🏼
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad it helped out🙏👍
Big helper..hmmmm
This is great, but how did you clean all of it?
Hi and thanks for watching. It is certainly a messy job but all I used was a big roll of kitchen roll tissue paper and it did the trick to wipe off all the old grease. No real need for any cleaner, just wipe it off and the metal underneath will be shiny clean.
Thank you Dan. Been looking all over for this for days. One page I looked at said it was under the passenger side glove compartment.
Hi and thanks for watching. I'm glad if it came in handy. I often rely on vids to find them too because they can be very well hidden sometimes.
I have repaired one of these before almost the same method with success. However I would think that the electrical tape you used in the manner used will not last very long. IMO you should remove the original strip and wrap tape around both original and replacement led strip. At least I did and it still works after 2 years plus of daily use.
Hi, thanks for watching. You're right, that would definitely be a stronger repair. I would probably have used the hot glue gun if I hadn't run out of glue sticks at the time but the tape held up good overall.
Thanks it was a big help 🙏 I can't believe this is really this way but then again mine lasted almost 10 years
Hi, thanks for watching. They're pretty cool how they're put together. I'd still like to try and refurb the other one I've got.
Thanks mate!
Hi, thanks for watching, always glad if it helped👍
thanks for the reminder to first check the power input. was fully snapped and saved me a lot of time and money!
Hi, thanks for watching, I'm really pleased the vid helped you save it, excellent 👍
Thanks, Dan! Mine failed so it was really helpful to see what and how you changed it, doesn't seam like a difficult job but only once you have seen this.
Hi and thanks for watching. I'm really glad the video helped out. I know just what you mean, I also still find people's videos out there can be really useful sometimes especially when I'm doing bits I haven't tackled before 👍
What does the plate do where you was cleaning at 4:25
Hi what does the metal plate on the sensor do thanks
Hi, thanks for watching. I can't say I'm 100% sure how that part actually operates. I know there's a few electronic components inside it. It might be that it becomes heated and the voltage changes are read from the cooling of that plate by the air flowing over it but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will comment who knows for sure🤞
@@dandantherepairman thanks for the help
Me too had to modify the support. (Obvious the unoriginal pipe support point was not welded on correct. drive.google.com/file/d/129654KWbDBgJiUWy2ZFY0Dwp2TYilz6L/view?usp=drive_link drive.google.com/file/d/1Wyp4kxR8roG2V30-OZ2C8Fz_FHO2IIaw/view?usp=drive_link
With shaft and heat shield removed the job could be done from the underside. Two of the bolts had nuts welded to the catalyst flange, and the third with long bolt was easy to counter hold. drive.google.com/file/d/1bK4RAR1SZJtU3EaE6bEbNyWqPmqagFqm/view?usp=drive_link drive.google.com/file/d/1HYzMpjlA4aPB8fYHnwmgNgTYcFa65ZWd/view?usp=drive_link
Nice video mate 💯 cheers
Hi there, thanks for watching 👍
I had an issue on this mower today. I suspected the switch as the cutting out was becoming more frequent to the point it rarely came on. Fiddling with the cable wasn’t helping though. I had the additional problem that I could’t open the switch as they’ve changed two of the screws to what looks like a T20 but with a spike in the middle.... anyway, on further inspection I saw that the plastic lever on mine had fractured just inside the switch box. This means applying a full squeeze to the handle is widening the fracture rather than pressing the internal button. I can make the motor come on by using a screwdriver to push the lever further down on the side where I have been able to undo the screws, so I know this is the issue. I will try super glue to fix the lever; failing that I need to buy a special a screwdriver and source a new lever...
Hi and thanks for watching. Sometimes those security torx screws are used but pretty easy to get those torx bits these days luckily. Good luck with it🤞👍. There is another video on my channel which might also be helpful, it shows a similar repair of the lever that had snapped. I used a 2 part resin which worked quite well to fix it.
Thanks so much for for the easy and clear instruction. No need for a new mower! Thanks again!
Hi and thanks for watching, it always makes my day to know if the video helps out, brilliant 👍
Can you do a video on the push button stop start mine seems to stay in all the time therefore the motor is running all the time. Many thanks 😊
Hi, thanks for watching. If I ever get another one to fix then I'll try and mention it. It's supposed to pop back out when you let go of the lever so maybe the spring behind the switch has slipped or popped off👍
Thanks, I couldn't work out where that little clip at the end had come from. Very useful 👌
Thanks for watching, glad if it helped out👍
Nice one Dan I found one of these on the side of the road put out for the rubbish men so I picked it up & looked at it as my other half's mower was making a terrible racket. I noticed that the lever or at least whats left of it had been taped up & cabled tied to the handle. We tried it out today & it works fine so we'll be ordering a lever & fitting it. Thanks for the upload looks a pretty easy fix
Hi and thanks for watching. That's brilliant, it's great when people throw stuff out sometimes because quite often they have no idea how to fix or simply can't be bothered which is such a waste. It's great to fix and repair, saves money and means one less going in the refuse. Hope all goes well with the repair, I'm sure it'll go smoothly 👍

just changed mine it worked but noisy on revving on cold but better when warm i think it lost the grease like copper grease and the alternator bearing was the same colour i thought it was rust lol, the new one though its defiantly been updated looking at design , its the first one changed on a 05 Leon mk1 pd150 70k
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes I think over time they just dry out and seize up. I was thinking the same when I took this one apart that it definitely looks like copper grease in there. I've still got a seized one to try and fix when I get round to it👍
