As a RB i looked into the box before deciding how to attempt to stop the LW because if the players running into the box are short then its better to force someone wide because then Center backs have advantage over them but if the striker is tall then its better to physically stop them or force them to the inside

This is oldshool. Modern good defenders never get beaten by la croqueta or a spin move. There are things that works every time. Make your opponent tired an having more pace! The single most effective trick is a fake shot. But it only works near or in the box.
