    I bought these shoes a couple months ago and don't like them. They just feel too clunky to get good turnover. I haven't put many miles in them because of it. Maybe I'll give them a second chance when I start my 20 week half marathon training block in June.

      @@racethenation You were right, after about 70is miles in them they feel more molded to my feet. Maybe it's because I'm getting fitter and can load the plate better but I'm not feeling the weight as much. I was a runner from March 1979 to Oct 2022. Due to bilateral, age related meniscus tears, I had to quit. Now I'm a walker and a biker. I always ran with one pair of shoes for exactly one year. Can you say Shoe Goo ! I went from 6 miles 3x a week to 4.5 miles 3x a week before I quit. That's over 900 miles on one pair of shoes back in the day, and then about 675 to 700 as an old guy. Never was concerned about responsiveness and energy return. As long as I didn't get plantar fasciitis and I had shoe goo to fill in the worn heels, I was good to go . Except for a sprained ankle when I step on a rock in the road , I never had an injury until my knees acted up in Jan. 2022. Ran for 9 months with pain and then decided it wasn't worth it anymore. The MRI confirmed the diagnosis .It took about a year to be completely pain free. Now I'm just an old guy walking the streets watching all the young people running passed me. Time waits for no one.

    • @racethenation
      @racethenation 6 месяцев назад

      The important part is that you are still out there moving forward! Certainly there are plenty of folks who just use one pair of shoes until they simply fall apart, and if that works for you, great! But there is no debating the shoe's support, cushioning, responsiveness, grip, etc. will break down over time. But everyone wants the most miles for their money and my goal is to provide some insight as to what to expect from certain shoes. Thanks for sharing!

I listed about 5 categories these days that the shoe companies want to sell you 5 or 6 pairs. I am going to assume you don't really want to buy a pure trail shoe (I've never worn one, so couldn't provide any thoughts on that anyways). I can certainly understand that the Max isn't great on trails, it's too flimsy and as you note, not highly cushioned. I recently did a trail ultra and after a couple different shoes, settled on the Hoka Clifton for the trails. Of all the highly cushioned shoes, I felt that provided the most responsiveness while providing a very stable, reliable landing pad (particularly on the trails). Was a shoe that for me, gave my foot a nice break. Hope that helps!

    Most name Brand shoes lose their bounce after 300- 400 Miles, anyway. Personally, most of the shoes I have purchased have been durable enough to go 500+ miles, but I don't enjoy running in bounce lifeless running shoes. I try to find Trainers on sale and try to preserve my racing shoes! I think most avid Runners will probably go through 2-3 pair of running shoes a year. Getting an extra 50 miles to shoes, I think is pointless for me. Thats like getting an extra 1-2 weeks on running shoes, that I am going to replace for the season.

    • @racethenation
      @racethenation 8 месяцев назад

      I couldn't agree more. Once the bounce is gone, they just aren't as fun to run in. I certainly understand anyone trying to squeeze as many miles out of their purchase as possible (the main reason I do these reviews), but believe you are also more apt to get injured running on shoes during miles 300-500 than from 1-300. Interesting, I have about 400km on mine and felt that I was loosing the me cushion squish at about 300km, around 200miles. Which lines up with what you experience. Though for me the squish it's loosing is starting to get felt through my knees. I find asics rubber outsole to be pretty slippery on wet asphalt and wet drain covers. Would never think of running these in the tropical rainforest trails I'm in.

      Interesting indeed! It's nicely affirming when someone has the same experience as you, so thanks for sharing!

      Thanks so much for the comment! We don't get as many on our race videos as we do our shoe reviews, so we appreciate it! You'll have a wonderful time, enjoy!

    I went 11 wide because of the narrow toe box. My foot has a normal width. Worked perfect for me!

    Excellent review, thank you for not sugarcoating it. I think I prefer snappers to rockers, but time will tell.
