Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB) is a milder, amphoteric surfactant compared to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Coco-Sulfate (SCS), both of which are strong anionic surfactants. If you’re using the same preservative as I did it can be added at higher temperatures. I usually use Cosgard (INCI: Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Aqua). Some suppliers sell this preservative with the name Geogard 221. It’s always best to check the data sheet provided by your supplier to see in which temperature you can add the ingredients you use.

@@diycosmeticaThank you for your response. When you say high temperature for preservative, do you mean 80 degree C? For conditioning agents while adding to the heat phase once melted, what should be the temperature? 80 degree C?

Stearic acid melting point is around 70 degrees celcius, BTMS is a bit less around 60 degrees celcius. Regarding Cosgard - according to the supplier is can be added at higher temperatures up to 80 degrees celcius (this is from the data sheet of the supplier I buy from - you obviously have to check the data sheet for the preservative you buy to ensure the range of temperatures it can be added in).

In general : Imwitor® 375 (INCI: Glyceryl Citrate/Lactate/Linoleate/Oleate) can be used for hot or cold process. Fluid lecithin (INCI: Phosphatidylcholine, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower), Seed Oil, Glycerin, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Alcohol, Sunflower Seed Oil Glyceride, Soy Acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol) can also be used in cold or hot process. Sucrose Stearate can be used cold or hot - different texture to each method.

I can only guess you used some ingredients that together result in a soapy effect. It all depends on the emulsifier , co-emulsifier and the emollients you use (and the percentages). Always when you make a new product make a small amount and test to see if you get the result you aimed for.

If you want “natural” ester- coco caprylate is an excellent choice (it derives from coconut oil and caprylic acid). I already answered you regarding no heat emulsion under a different video- you can use sucrose stearate or lecithin for a cold process emulsion. When using sucrose stearate or lecithin you need to add a gum to have a stable emulsion.
