Martin Jones: Sonatina for violin and piano
Просмотров 87Год назад
On 28 July 2022, Neil Crossland (piano) and Mark Wilson (violin) premiered my Sonatina. They recorded it the following November (at Eastcote Studios with engineer George Murphy). I've put this recording with the score to make this video. There are two movements: the second begins at 4:16.
Martin Jones: Quartet No. 14

Quite different from my No. 12 on this channel. This has four movements in conventional order. It was written in 2020-1 during my sister-in-law's decline in health and eventual death, hence the Elegy. She had always been interested in my music and very supportive. The general intention is to give the players a good play - not without challenges, but rewarding in the end. Here the sound is reali...

Martin Jones: Caterpillar Tracks

Written during the Sherborne online Composers' Workshop in August 2020, where the stimulus work was Kaija Saariaho's Sept Papillons for solo cello. Performed by me in Berkshire, Kingsley Lin in Surrey and Swan Serna in New Brunswick, Canada. The piece follows the life-cycle of the butterfly from the Egg through to the Imago (the adult stage), starting with solo double bass and adding one instru...
Martin Jones: Uranus, God of the Sky

Second performance, 26 October 2019, by Opal Flutes, conducted by Sharon Moloney, who had commissioned seven composers to write new planets pieces. The first performance was in 2017. For me this was rather experimental, involving aleatoric sections at the beginning and end, to represent the stars at night and the dawn chorus. The showery daytime section in the middle was normally notated. Marti...

Bravo!
I like how the first one pees in the pool before he leaves. It looks like he is.
Beautiful
I enjoyed this. Good work, Martin.
Thanks Cliff. I'm working on getting a live run-through, no promises, though.

Wonderful work! I really like it when you get more harmonically adventurous!
I envy you Martin, having five talented wives. :-)
Delightful :-)
Brilliant :-)
That's so clever. I think it can be safely said that you know that piece inside out.
Brilliant :-)
Awesome! Well done! 😍
With the music I felt I was there. Thank you.
Absolutely fabulous. So glad we were able to play it.
One might call it stately. But it's a speed my ears can appreciate. Very enjoyable and a great bit of technical wizardry.
This is probably the slowest version on RUclips, but I reckon my top Ds are the best!
Both funny and impressive!
Viele tönne wurden ersetzt merke ich waren heute dort. Dachte schön ihrgen wie fehlen einige😅.
Hello, Martin Jones. it's a exceptionally picturesque video. thanks. :)
… I meant Variation 3, not 4. Thanks to Cliff and Laurence for their nice comments.
This is a wonderful work, full of drama and glorious orchestral writing. I'm in awe. The brass sounds particularly thrilling in the final movement and I love the thoughtful, downbeat ending. I'm also impressed by the improvement Note Performer makes to Sibelius' overall sound. I will definitely add it to my own Sibelius arsenal - although, of course, it won't lift my compositions to this level any more than wearing Pele's boots.... well, you get the picture. I hope we get a chance one day to hear this symphony played by a professional orchestra. Please write more (if you have two years to spare).
Bravo! An enjoyable work with a thrilling start.
Looks amazing ! Maybe even better than Norway :)
+Alex Webb Thank you for your comment. It was indeed amazing: you should add it to your list of experiences! You'll have to wait till next winter, though.
pick better music.....ut cool adventure
I am disappointed that you thought so little of the music. It was not picked. Indeed I could not think of any existing music that presented a cold place positively enough. So I wrote my own score to express my feelings about this wonderful place. I subsequently adapted the music as an orchestral Suite which was accepted for recording by an American company. They at least provided a benchmark by which I can judge my music.

The music was written to be playable by humans, but unfortunately it is just not possible to hire a film orchestra. Maybe at some stage I will extract a suite. The Ice cave music was originally one of my recenty-written Miniatures for 'cello and harp, with the 'cello part put on to marimba to make it sound more brittle.
Liked the music, especially the Ice Cave scenes. It would sound even better played by human beings. Any chance of you rocking up to a rehearsal in that very dapper orange miner's hard-hat? Thanks for sending us the link.
