Polyphonic Singing Q&A | Answering Some of your Questions + A Short Practice
Hello beautiful people! Today I am answering some of your frequently asked questions, and sharing a short practice session in my new studio :)
Here are some bonus tips:
Work on sustaining the fundamental as if you’re able to hold long notes on one fundamental note, you have more time to search for overtones in the vowel transitions. The lower the pitch, the more overtones you have.
Have a more ‘tight’ sound in the voice as this sound already contains stronger overtones. An airy voice will not have such loud overtones to amplify.
Overtone singing is about filtering overtones out of the voice and amplifying others. But you can only filter and amplify something you put into the filter in the fi...

The overtone sounds very sharp and loud to me. Try doing some SOVT straw phonation exercises with a drinking straw beforehand to improve the resonance.

Nice vid. At 3:34 there is a one quick reference to 'practice with the tip of your tongue.' Practice what? The teachers nearly always give much attention to tongue placement, specifically the tip...this vid doesn't. Do you have more instruction on that? I see you have more vids...I'll look there.

@@HarmonicPolyphonic there's a group, Pentatonix... Well .. a former member of that group, Avi Kaplan used to do that during concerts and nobody could understand "how " 😍 after that, the idea of Overtone kept running through my head, dear.

I had a very amazing experience when I had an 'NDE'. I fell (actually)from a high bleacher at a concert-presumably died (to much detail to write here)and came back, then as I looked at faces of the crowd around me they all had looks of fear, but I could hear their "heart chakra" saying 'I love you' in a child like voice. I tried to say 'thank you' and I spontaneously began to sing "THANK YOU" in polyphonic tones over and over. If you think that's crazy you wouldn't believe what happened next... tbc lol

I was an only child, and I spent a LOT of time in my room by myself and I used to try new sounds with my voice and mouth just to keep myself entertained. By middle school, we had a choir teacher who told us about this and showed us a video. At the time, I felt so cool because I’d already figured it out, but I didn’t know it was a thing. This was 1982. I doubt I could do it now. I have teenagers at home, so I don’t quite have the same alone time as I had as a child. They’d have me hospitalized if I was practicing and they caught me!
