Trolling Lake Trolls & Mega Tubes for Lake Trout can be a very productive method when done right. We hit Flaming Gorge in hopes of Trophy Lake Trout. Lake Trout in Early spring can be found throughout the water colum, but our favorite depths to target is 30-55 ft trolling right on the bottom. Fantastic edit!!
@@JR497 I wish I could take credit, but this was all Ryan Kelly.
Awesome!
What mold do you use for the jigs
@@Blibbyxox a custom production mold.
@LakeShoreTackle08 can I buy one anywhere
They look great!
Thanks
You mention to keep the Lake Trolls 1 to 3 feet from the release. Is that the correct number or should be 10 to 30 feet?
Keep them less than 3 ft from the downrigger release.
Cool bet that was fun
Asum video. What rod an reel do you use.
Eagle claw starfire combo. Rough retail is $85, but awesome setup.
Thanks for the video. What down rigger clip or release are you using?
@@erictilman7628 www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/downriggers-and-accessories/cannon-offshore-saltwater-line-release-trolling-accessory/p/1740696 This is the cannon heavy tension.
@@LakeShoreTackle08 thank you! I'm going to try your lake trolls with tubes on some other lakes starting with Buffalo Bill.
Been spending alot of time at FG and im just here to watch your videos and support a fellow youtube enthusiast.
Nice catch! We tried trolling this rig in Linwood Bay this week but didn’t have any luck. I know it works, I just haven’t landed my first laker yet. Would early spring and fall be a better time to troll these on the Utah side. Areas like Antelope Flats and Linwood Bay?
Antelope and Sheep Creek would be good. We fished stateline today and yesterday and have done well.
Awesome video!
What in tarnation is that rig
Lake trolls and tube jig
Nice catch, comes already served on your plate 😂😂❤
making it look easy!
Thanks. They weren't huge, but it was fun. 2 in the boat and 7 other strikes in 2 hours.
That rig is wild (coming from a bass guy)
Great video Colton. Thanks for sharing.
What pound test mono do you run to troll the laketrools
30-40 pound on my rod and 30 pound on the tube jigs.
Hey I was wondering what I pilot you have or recommend. I have a 2018 bass buggy. I believe the same boat as you. Just wondering what you would recommend.
I have the 36v terrova.
@@LakeShoreTackle08 what length of shaft would you recommend
@@caseyhill3864 I went with the 60"
Awesome thank you very much
I really like watching these videos keeps my hopes up that I can figure out how to catch a big one. How deep are you trolling?
We are trolling 30-100ft. With most being found in the 50-90ft range.
I’ll be out there on a boat next week out of Lucerne, any suggestions to get the in laws into some lakers? Even pups would be great.
There are a lot of pups near Anvil Draw, Kingfisher Island, and the red cliffs.
@@LakeShoreTackle08 thank you!🙏
Always enjoy your videos. My phat smelly question is this...How do you decide from day to day what area to fish ? Is it intel from others ? Or, do ya put together a ' Milk' and keep moving til you find cooperative fish? Stay safe !
I do have a few people that tell me where or where not to try, but I have my favorite 5 areas and new areas I look at all the time.
Another great video! Thanks for the info at the end. I’d pay to get a day up there with that kind of weather. The wind didn’t stop our last trip.
Is this on flaming gorge
Yes.
Colton, can you give some pros/cons to rigging the lake trolls directly to the DR weight vs all gear on the rod? Seems like it would be easier to fight the fish w/o the troll gear on the rod…
If you hook the lake trolls to your rigger you have to run a stacker clip a couple feet above your lake trolls and you run the risk of tangling your lake trolls with your tube on the way down. If you put the release clip on the back of the lake trolls you have to leave slack in your line, because if you put tension on it the lake trolls will be on an angle and won't spin properly. You can always call me and I can give more details.
I would like to know also. How far above would you put your line on a stacker?
@coreymuir1113 the closer you can get it the the lake trolls the better you would be. 2 things you need to consider 1) tangling on the way down. 2) the tube jig trolls exactly straight when ran without lake trolls. The lake trolls give the tube a rolling/darting action.
Love the videos. What are your preferred rod and line setups for downrigger and toplining(if you do that)? I mostly fish Fishlake but trying to get set up with the right gear.. thanks!
I run the Eagle Claw Starfire. 30-40 pound mono.
i've smashed on kokanee out in southwest washington with your gear i purchased a couple years back
Thank you for your support.
What brand of rods are you using
The ones in this video are Tica. I run okuma and the new Eagle Claw.
Looking good. What was the weight of the rainbow and brown that won the derby last weekend? We were in the derby but we ended up just fishing for Kokanee 😂
Rainbow 4.48 Brown 4.82
Liked the added angles from the drone.
Thank you
Nice job Colton! It is great you don't hold back on the what where and how. Its good usable information for folks.
Thanks. We get a little pushback for doing this. I believe that these resources are for everyone and that everyone should have an equal opportunity at enjoying such resources. Also, the Flaming Gorge area economy is primarily based on tourism and that the tourists keep all of our other businesses running.
Love it!

@@LakeShoreTackle08 Killer, Thank you!
Whapper flapper vs bfs lures?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with a bfs lure. What are those?
@@LakeShoreTackle08 Hey Boss, They are small jerk baits, known as Bait Finesse System, such as lucky craft humpback minniw 50 size, Trout can’t resist it, I gotta get one of them Whapper flappers.
@@SuperBaconFishing okay. These are only made for vertical jigging via boat or ice fishing
Does the store at Lucerne marina sell these?
@@DYFishing83 right now. Angler's Den, Basin Sports, Both Ace Hardwares in Green River & Rock Springs will carry these.
Is that larger Tornado used as a dodger/troll option? Are those available commercially yet?
These are not available yet. This was actually the first time we had it out testing it.
how big is you boat and what are you using for a trolling motor
18.5' pontoon I am using the 36v 112 lb thrust minnkota terrova.
Thanks I'm looking at buying a pontoon some day
Looks like everything is working pretty good!
Fishing has been good so far this year.
Excellent day guys. Keep us updated, we'll be making a few trips up there this season.
Awesome time! What kind of flasher are you using?
Mostly our 4.5" Dakota Dodgers in moon/sun jelly or hyperplaid.
Nice job! Majestic place! Great video. Keep it up! 👍👍👍
I thought a goose was trying to grab your fish at first 😂
That would be something to see
That's a lot of bling. I catch em on 1.5 inch Little Cleo spoons. No flasher, no dodger, no down rigger in spring from kayak. Got a 10lber I weighed a few weeks ago on my channel.
Sorry to bother you but was wondering if your willing to share what garmin set up you are using when trolling your lake trolls thanks
I use the lvs 34 ice fishing bundle
How do you rig those tube jigs?
ruclips.net/user/shorts2FMbq8YZb6A?feature=share
How do you set up your poles? Like what test line and swivels? Extra?
Its bullsh*t that you deleted my comment. When you squeeze the fish when is makes that noise, the fish will die. Classy move, admit when you are unethical dont add to it
I didn't delete any comments. If you truly believe this, then most all anglers are unethical. I have seen scientific data on trout specifically that catch & release mortality trolling is between 11-18% depending on if bait/scent is used. I haven't seen any data on whether the fish burps air or not. There are guides that squeeze the air out of Lake trout before they release them. If you can show data on your comment specifically I would be happy to look at it.
Coming from a guy dressed like santa? 😂😂
Last summer I went to the gorge and couldn’t find any good Mac’s or schools of Koke so we trolled around kingfisher and caught a metric shload of decent little rainbows. Couldn’t even reel them in fast enough, had every pole bouncing nonstop, had a blast. Wish I could get out there more!
I'd bet thesilver,Grey flake is gona get em
Ok quick question for you… if you had to choose like normal people… would you pick the pontoon boat or your boat from this video (weldcraft??). I’m split between the two but never been in either one.
That is a hard one, as there are pro's and con's to both. Pontoon boat: Still very reasonably priced Way more room than a v nosed boat of same size. Uses less fuel because they normally have smaller motor. Easier to fish from than another boat of the same size. Con's: slower for sure, unless you buy one with twin 300 hp behind it then you have to spend more on fuel. Aluminum boat: Faster Normally have more shelter on the boat such as shade, a place to warm up, protected from waves splashing over your boat. Con's: burns more fuel Boat costs more Have to go a little bigger to fish more people comfortably I will be purchasing another boat in the next couple years and I have been back and fourth. However, if I had to make the decision today I would go 2-4 feet longer and stay with a pontoon boat.
@@LakeShoreTackle08 good info! I saw you out there on Wednesday and I thought about that. My biggest question with the pontoon boat is how it handles in the wind / big waves. Im in that little side console tracker and I need to just stay home if it is supposed to be windy because I cant take on the big waves. That is what I always thought the big c-nose boat you have would kick butt, that and being able to get out there in colder weather and get out of the wind to warm up but Im sure you can also do the covering with the pontoon… just dont know about the waves / wind.
I fish off a 22’ pontoon with a 150 hp outboard and will hit 30 mph, so pretty decent but not going to win a race. But my wife can lounge on the couch with a good book while I fish and we put the Bimini up when it’s hot and it’s like boating in your living room. So comfortable and roomy and very stable. When it’s hot, we pull out the pylon and the kids tube or ski behind it. Super versatile. Wind does effect it a little more but not that bad in my opinion, I have no problem managing it where I want to go. Also, it handles big waves easily. I had it on Powell in a big wind storm and had no worries at all. I grew up on a v hull and would pick a toon every time now for several reasons.
Hace you guys caught any good size lake trout at buck board marina area
A few over the years. I will be heading up there in the next few weeks.
Looks like they’re up pretty high. Can’t wait to get the boat OUT OF THE SNOW!! And head down to FG for some kokes!
