This channel is dedicated to shore fishing, mostly from the south coast of England. I often like to experiment by comparing different tactics on my trips and hope that helps people who watch my videos here on RUclips.
I fished as part of the England Ladies Shore team, winning Gold in the home nations in 2022. I was also the first female winner of the EFSA England Shore Championships, in 2023. Mostly I fish for fun rather than in matches.
I love fishing and hope you do too!

Fishing for Winter Flatfish
With it being somewhat between seasons, the best target for me on the Sussex coast at this time of year is flatties. Dabs had been showing, but not in huge numbers, along with some flounders. The plaice were likely still a few weeks away, but they had to arrive at some point. Check out the video to see how I got on fishing on this misty morning.

Dab Fishing | Pevensey Bay
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 дня назад
It's mid-winter on the Sussex Coast so flatties are a great target fish, if we can get to them amongst the whiting! Armed with some old frozen lug and razor fish that I'd collected after a storm, I headed to Pevensey Bay to target winter dabs.
Catching Dabs at Langney Point | Fishing Eastbourne | December 2024
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.21 день назад
I hit the beach mid December to see if I could land a few early dabs. Armed with some fresh lug and frozen razors, I had high hopes there would be a few starting to reach the Sussex beaches. I managed my target and went home happy. In a few more weeks I expect they will be here in decent numbers. Watch the video to see what rigs I use for these winter flatties.
Multi-Species Fishing Session | Cuckoos and More On the Rocks
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Месяц назад
On a favoured rock mark, I set out to catch wrasse, plaice and other species. Smaller worm baits were presented on 1/0 three-hook loops rigs and bigger fish baits on 3/0 loop rigs. I landed a lovely mixed bag of fish, with species coming in waves through the session. A lovely way to end my recent trip to Norway.
Catching Gurnard, Whiting and Dabs
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
Armed with fresh mackerel, frozen herring and ragworm, I headed with my friends - Scottie and Wayne - to a venue we knew produced big whiting as well as silver eels. Hoping I wouldn't get any of the latter, I set up two rods for my fishing trip, one armed with a 3/0 loop rig and the other a 1/0 three-hook loop rig. I knew dabs could be caught here too and the mark has been known to throw up som...
Species Filled Fish Fest
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Targets: halibut, plaice and wrasse. Successes: dabs, mackerel, cod and a host of other species. Baits used were rag, herring and, surprise surprise fresh mackerel. What started off as a wetish and windy day brightened up and became Indian-summer-like. A lovely session fishing on a rock mark. Join me for the session to see the host of species landed.
Shoreham Beach | Returning to Plaice Fishing Paradise?
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.Месяц назад
The target was plaice. Fat autumn plaice. Baits were slightly old 'fresh' black lug. Rigs were 3-hook loop rigs with 18 inch snoods. The weather was lovely: flat calm sea, with sun appearing later in the session with glorious blue skies. Plaice were caught. Check out the video to see how Shoreham, aka plaice fishing paradise, performed on this session.
How to Make a 3-Hook Loop Rig | Great Rig for Plaice Fishing
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Here I walk through how I make my three hook loop rig. It includes a mini-clip on the bottom snood to aid unhooking flat fish using the through-the-gills method. This causes less damage to the fish, allowing more to be successfully returned.
Fishing for Halibut and Pollock
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.2 месяца назад
I was all set to fish for halibut and pollock. For the halibut, baits were to be frozen herring. These were fished on an 8/0 circle hook on a 4.5 foot pulley rig, made from 100lb line - for the rig body and snood. The pollock were targeted on free-lined ragworm and using lures. Note: I had permission to fish this venue from the landowner and no vehicles are allowed on the site.
Pevensey Bay Fishing | November 2024
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
After having to change venue twice due to works on the beaches, I settled on fishing the Kiosk in Pevensey Bay. Armed with five wraps of fresh lug, my targets were plaice and sole. With the change of venue, would I still be able to catch my target species? Watch to find out!
Wrasse on the Rocks and a PB Plaice
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
On the rocks. Targeting wrasse and halibut. Catching plaice! Armed with frozen herring and fresh wild dug rag, I headed to a favoured rock mark in Norway. The main goal was a halibut, but I also knew that wrasse lived in these rocks. Using heavy rigs - one with an 8/0 varivas circle hook on the business end, and the other a 3/0 loop rig with 50lb snoods - I hoped my quarry would be present. Wat...
Targeting Soles at Eastbourne

A dawn start. Sole were the target. Eastbourne the venue. Armed with some frozen lug, my main goal was to catch a few soles. Plenty of flatties were landed, check out the video to see how I got on!
Brighton Plaice Chase
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
Fishing for plaice. Brighton Marina East Wall. Who will catch the most: Gem or her mate Alex? Gem had fresh (but old fresh!) sticky black lug. Alex had frozen oiled and salted lug, and some dirty squid. Both were using loop rigs as well as others. It was all to play for, with fat autumn plaice swimming around the Brighton coastline.
Eastbourne: Chasing Soles and Other Species
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 месяца назад
Eastbourne is well-known for its sole fishing, at least locally to me. I hit the beach with an old mate from my school days to see if we could catch some sole. I managed to put a few species on the beach, using some lovely fresh lug from Tony's Tackle.
Brighton Bites: Fishing on the Marina
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 месяца назад
I had a long session planned. Armed with seven wraps of black lug, I hoped for a sole, and was also targeting plaice and congers. Conditions were good for sole, with it being overcast. As for the congers, on previous trips I'd been bitten off by them, so thought specifically targeting them was worth a go. Watch the video to see how I mixed up my tactics throughout the session to maximise my cha...

Chasing Sole and Bass, Catching Eels!
Gem just found you on RUclips love the Vlog 👍🏼 I am new to Sea Fishing what is that rig called you are using ?
Unlucky gem
why do you throw bits of old bait all over the beach?
This video has cost me a fortune, I’d never heard of a jetboil before, mines just been delivered!!
Well you can beat a lovely hot cuppa on the beach! Just don’t do what I did - put a pan on it without using the jetboil pan stand! Melted the plastic a bit, could’ve been an expensive mistake. Anyway I hope you enjoy your cuppa on the beach when it arrives :)
still yet to meet up gem , hope we can sometime this year, seeing as we live close by
Totally. I often go last minute when I feel like it which makes planning tricky! One day :)
@@ClickBaitGem im ok with cameras too
Hi jem, Fantastic as always
Thank you! Cheers! That’s motivation to keep em coming 🤩
Loving the jet boil, my partner and I have one each so we can cook as well as drink :)
That's a great idea! They are fab bits of kit especially for longer sessions.
My plan for 25 is also to do a Chesil session not just for cod but massive whiting spose to go last year but a storm hit and i ended up with a freezer full of worms. We all blank my last session even though I caught i counted as a blank as the fish were so small
Chesil is always somewhere I love to fish. And a bit of frozen worm is always good for the short tides. Hoping to film down chesil soon.
Am new to sea fishing so watching your videos are a great help I live near hurst shingle keep up the good work
Glad to help and thanks for watching. I used to teach at a university so I think it’s in my blood to explain some of what I’m doing.
Awesome jem. I have a pair of st and both of mine are too quick outta the box. Even on full mag. Think they need thicker oil. Shocking really for a near 600 pound reel. I prefer my turbos and magged rockets. I will get around to them eventually.
I changed back to the original bearings but still might put a drop of thicker oil in them. Running on rocket fuel tournament at the moment.
I think the clue is in the designation ST- super Tuned!
Nice video👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
to get back fishing before can't do it anymore due to illness
Sorry to hear that. Sometimes life throws things in our way and we have to adapt as best we can. I hope you’ll be able to get back out.
Is this an old video I think Iv seen this one sorry made a mistake
Sorry made a mistake
It was brand new - no worries at all. I hope you’ll enjoyed it :)
Still a good video Gem😊
Thanks. At least I’m aiming to show it like it is! Keep it real lol.
Love your videos Gem
Thanks so much 🙂
If one of your ST reels is fast I reckon the magnet components have been put in incorrectly.
They do get magnetised also but they don't like lob casts as the mechanism won't work if slow
I made them super fast for using over the field. Tamed a bit now with original magnets back in. Could still use slightly thicker oil - running on rocket fuel tournament!
Hard session jem at least you left some for us this time, better luck next time👍😀
Plenty left lol. I caught loads when I got out a couple of days ago.
@ClickBaitGem hi jem all those people who puts a thumb down are vegans😂😂

thanks.
Happy new year Gem.
Happy new year!
Nice video, well done, been a while since I fished there. Decent distances for your PB on the field.
Thanks! I put a lot of work in to my casting and was well happy woth that distance OTG and being under 5ft 3! And it’s a nice little venue.
I was out day before nye at Hythe only had 2 small dabs people next to me had more but we were out trying good work
I heard there are a good few dabs down that way. Nice getting a couple out!
great video - what camera do you use,? the picture is great.
Thanks. I’m using a GoPro hero 10 black. I do put some work in to editing to try to make the footage look as good as I, as an amateur, can get it. Especially when filmed in low light which is challenging.
happy new year love the vids you have earned a sub 😁
Thanks so much. And happy new year :)
Happy New year to you and your wife X
Happy new year!
Well done, Gem. I love dabs! I wish we had them where I am. Happy New Year to.
Happy new year! Thanks for watching Tom. You’re welcome to pop up this way and film a dab video for your channel.
Well done mate, last few weeks I’ve traveled from Barry area , away from the rays, conger etc to catch dabs. I rather catch dabs than rays now . Good luck girl 👍
Have fun! I do love those flatties.
Nice video Gem happy new year 😊
Happy new year!!
The Magnifuge doesn't work with lob casts. I'd have set one up clipped down for range and other short then dragged long one in bit by bit so cover the ground.
Thanks for the info. I’ve not had issues plopping with my blue mags. So I’ve just taken the abec 9s out of my STs and put the original bearings back in. I hope that tames them enough!
Thanks for making these videos, they're great. Happy New Year, all the best for 2025.
Happy new year! Thanks for your comment 😄
Happy new year gem, love your videos 👍
Happy new year!!
Nice one Gem always nice watch Happy new year look forward to watching in the knew year

Well done Dok flat fish queen does it again,I bet you can get a flatty in a pond have a great new year happy fishing adventures this year 😀😀
Happy new year! I wish I could get bass and codling out of a pond too 😂
A lovely session fishing well done Gem 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Happy new year.
As im just starting out what's the benefit of fishing flapper rigs compared to clipdown rigs
Flapper rigs are easier to make. But they don’t cast as far. All about trade offs.
@@ClickBaitGem thanks Gem
Hi Gem, brilliant as always happy xmas enjoyed
Thank you! You too!
Great vid Gem.x
Thank you 😁
rather than a big single bag with 4-5 rigs twist tied, I have 1 rig in 1 bag, 3x3 inch so much smaller, and not worry about the twist ties. ive been doing it this way for years and the process of uncoiling the loose rig is much easier than twist ties
Interesting. I was doing they for a while but found the snoods got tangled too much. So I switched to twist ties and multiple rigs in a bag. Just shows we are all different and we all find what works for us! Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Well done Dok,flat fish queen does it again nice size dab 😀
Thanks 👍
hi gem great vids keep them comeing, how,s the van comeing on,why dont you use breakaway leads??
New van is getting there. Personally I don’t like breakaway leads. I have had the wires pull through the bottom of the lead and come out! More than once too. I think it’s to do with how they are manufactured. Plus the SKM leads I believe are more streamlined and cast further. Oh and they use much less plastic than breakaway leads.
Great video gem was good to see Wayne theshorehunter on the south coast instead of his normal Bristol channel or Chesil beach
Wayne does venture up this way sometimes. Get him off his usual turf lol.
That's a crazy session, well done!!! Can you ask the fish if they fancy visiting Shoreham?
Yes I can hehe. 🎣
well done what Gem what a cracking session kept you on your toes and you had some nice fish 👏
Yes it was, thanks for watching.
Wow Yahoo you beauty gem that's what I like to see I love to see them plaice as much as you like to catch them I love flatties bashing everybody thinks I'm crazy fishing for them but I love it well done Gem crack on with the fishing x
Glad you enjoyed. Flatties are top in my book.
Nice brace of soles that Gemma well done!
Thanks! 😊
