Original Felt Mat VS Hudson Hifi Acrylic Platter Mat (Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB) + Tonearm Lever
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
As requested by a few people, here is a comparison video between the original felt slip-mat that comes with the Audio Technica AT-LP120X & 120, and the Hudson Hifi Acrylic Platter Mat. I will try to give you a visual and sound comparison to show you what the key differences are and which one is better in my opinion. I definitely hear differences, being tighter bass and slightly more clear mids ...

Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB - DETAILED SETUP & UNBOXING ~ Balancing Tone Arm ~
Просмотров 186 тыс.2 года назад
Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB-BZ (bronze finish) unboxing and detailed setup video. First sorry for the improper terminology on a few of the parts, still trying to learn the proper names myself!! How to carefully open the box, assemble the turntable, and balance the tone arm. Putting on the dust cover was by far the most simple step, the grooves will help you to easily distinguish how it goes in....

I just got this same acrylic platter. Am I supposed to put the rough side of the center label facing down so the record is on the side that’s all smooth?
I don't remember there being a rough side of the platter but if there is I would probably put it face down so that it does not make contact with the record
Well done, very useful, thanks
Thank you :)
Josh S Nice video, What is the main difference between this version & the Bluetooth model?
I believe it's just the Bluetooth functionality
I tried so many times to setup the weight and i can’t. I balance the tonearm and then put the dial to zero then move the weight 2 and the anti skate to 2 and it’s just too heavy Please help🙏🏻
Ok lets go through it step by step: 1) Make sure anti skate is on 0 before setting anything up (this is just to be sure) 2) Spin counterweight on the tonearm 3) take your time with the balance - get it where it's floating nice and straight. (It will take about 5-10 seconds for the tonearm to reach it's "true position" and you will know if you got the balance right) 4) Delicately turn the FRONT dial to "0" without moving the actual counterweight 5) pinch the WHOLE counterweight and spin it to "2" after you bring the front dial to 0. 6) Turn the anti skate dial to "2" I can promise if all these steps are done correctly you will have a great set up. If after 2-3 tries you are still encountering issues there may be something faulty with the turntable, which is definitely possible. Also, if after the set up you notice your records skipping, just slightly increase the tonearm force by turning the ENTIRE dial slowly in increments of .10 (every little line is an extra .10) Hope this helps, let me know how it goes and feel free to ask any other questions. Good luck!
Thank you! I just set my turntable up with your directions and everything worked flawlessly.
Thank you for the feedback happy to help :)
Great vid! Watching again as my LP120X JUST ARRIVED! lol. Thanks for the step by step.
Right on! And thanks man, hope you enjoy the new TT
i came here because, i thought i didn't include accessories. turns out it was within the styrofoam!
This is a literal science, thank you.
Haha no problem! :) Once you get the hang of it it's quite easy to do, hope you enjoy the turntable
I just purchased the Bronze edition, and I’ll be using this excellent set-up video when I put it together! Great job my man! ❤
Thanks Michael happy to help man! Hope you enjoy the new deck
You SHOULD NOT wait till after you balance it to than tell the viewers that the anti skate should be on 0 before starting. 🤦♀️🤦♀️
It would not be on anything other than 0 upon setting up. Also if in the case that someone had been fiddling with the dial before the set-up, I believe the anti skate can still be adjusted without the need of adjusting the balance as well, and vice versa. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Needless to say though yes I should have mentioned it earlier on :)
Hi I have a question..I have this same model..I balanced it to numer 2 but I bought the digital stylus reader but it read 2.12 is that too much or is it ok
Hey there yes that's perfectly fine, I bring mine up to 2.25/2.30 when certain records have a tendency to skip. You can 100% use it for new records as well. If it's bothering you try rebalancing the entire arm, the closer you can get it to the middle float position the more accurate you'll get 2.00g. But 2.12 is not serious at all I wouldn't even bother
Very good instruction video. I've watched loads and set up my Project TT many times so didn't need to watch but video just happened to pop up on my feed. You did it very well and anyone with that unit will have no problem setting up if they following your clear, detailed and unrushed set up.
Thank you very much! :)
Hi. where you bought this turntable with this colour?
Sorry I did not see this earlier, I purchased it from Best Buy, the bronze finish is an exclusive but I have seen a few 3rd party sellers online that have the bronze finish.
Thx
Thank you so much for this tutorial. So so helpful for a beginner! 💕
No problem so happy to help hope you're enjoying the turntable! :D
Hi Josh from Berlin 🙂. Turntable looks great with bronze finish! Is this home made or can you tell me please, where I can get it. Kind regards Mike
Hey there! The bronze finish is a Best Buy exclusive that I was able to find on bestbuy.ca I'm not too sure if it's only on the Canadian site I would check, maybe even amazon or another 3rd party website may carry it. Best of luck I hope you find one! Cheers
Hi! I have this Turntable AT LP 120XUSB as well as Powered Speakers Edifier S1000 MK II and now I just need to listen to my CDs, I am thinking of purchasing the Yamaha CD Player S303 and I don't wanna spend more money in other devices, so is it worth using my active speakers with this CD Player and its DAC?
Just picked up this record player and am thoroughly impressed by it and i wanted to say a big thank you for your awesome setup video the balancing with rhe weight and dials seemed daunting but your video was a great step by step guide thank you again
Glad I can help! :) Agreed it's a fantastic turntable for the price
Whats the 16% and 8% for? Thanks in advance
That is just the range for the pitch adjustment. If you leave the slider in the middle it will play your songs normally and won't make any difference. Usually it's used for DJ'ing and mixing
Thank you mate honestly. From one anxiety ridden person with shakes from meds you helped me get through my setup with the most ease flawlessly. Thanks from Sydney Australia
Happy to help brother :) Hope you have yourself a great week dude! Enjoy that new record player, it's fantastic
Merci pour cette vidéo.
Very nice .
Good, clear and concise detail. Thx!
Thank you for the detail in your video. Nice job and very helpful.
thanks, worked perfectly!
np!
Could this play a more modern vinyl that has more bass and beat to it without any issues?
I don't see why not! :)
I bought this is 2021, it was the first thing I bought with my First paycheck. I wouldn’t change it with any other turntable, not only does it look beautiful but it sounds amazing aswell.
Couldn't agree more, I think for this price point it really doesn't get any better!!
Young man your video is awesome, finally somebody explains how to set up tonearm. Thank you!! You should make video about your turntable after some time to tell us how happy you are with it and did you do any changes on it. Great video, thank you😀
Thank you very much for this :) That sounds like a great idea and I will definitely consider making a follow up video in the upcoming months Cheers
Thank you for putting together a video that completely addresses the setup of this turntable. Your attention to each detail is very much appreciated. It will help me immensely.
No problem thank you for the words :) Glad I can help!!
What a great review! Audio Tehnica should showcase the balancing of the tone arm like you did! Good job man! :)
Thanks man! Cheers :)
Kudos to you young man for this greatly explained set up video. From someone who is not very proficient with this I am not ashamed to say that I played it back a few times and it worked out great. Thank you so very much Sir.
No problemo! Glad I can help, Happy New Year
I want one - great looking TT and excellent demo 👍
Thanks! Happy New Year
Thanks for the video. Thinking about getting this turntable and for a little extra really like the gold high lights.... Thanks again for the info.
No problem, happy to help, and good luck with your search! Happy New Year Year
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I had no idea why my records sounded like crap until I realized, through your video, the tonearm was not balanced properly. The printed instructions are an absolute joke, but your explanation did the trick! 🤘🤘
I'm glad I can help!! And Happy New Year man!
The highs were obviously crisper.
Interesting video, I have seen other videos where they put the acrylic mat directly onto the platter, taking off the felt/rubber mat, but when I tried this it sounded quite thin, so put the felt mat back on first, then the acrylic mat on top, works fine that way, not heard much of a difference though, but then I've only played one LP so far, I've also heard by some commenters say that if you play it with both mats on you should alter something on the arm because it changes the way the needle tracks in the groove ! personally I can't see how 2.8mm of extra hight would effect the way the needle plays the music ! But hey ho, I'm no audiophile !
Thanks a lot for this detailed video! I’m planning to get my first turntable and wondering if I need anything else to have it ready to play like a receiver or speaker?
Hey no worries happy to help :) It's a really good turntable for being good to hook up and go after it's assembled. If you're using any speakers that use AUX I'd recommend getting a 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA Adapter Audio Stereo Cable. You can find a ton online or at local electronic stores. Enjoy the deck!
I absolutely have to get two of this model. I love the bronze finish on this version. Great video as well. I definitely needed something like this when i first bought my turntables years ago.
Thanks Jean
Can I hook up my lg sound bar and speaker to this model TT?
What speakers are you using? Do you need an amp or receiver? Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm new to all this.
No not a dumb question at all, the speakers I'm currently using are a Sonos setup and they actually work very well. Nice thing with Sonos is that after you go through the setup on your phone, it's one of the easiest systems to operate. I can change the volume and pair up speakers on the spot from my phone. If you go Sonos, I'd recommend either 2 Play 5's paired together, or you can even do 1 Play 5 and 2 Play1's. But the 2 play 5's will probably be your best bet. The more traditional method is to connect 2 bookshelf speakers via the RCA jacks, I'm sure you can find decent ones for a good price. But me personally I went the Sonos route and it has been great. Very fuss-free, the only pain is when you change internet and have to set up everything again.
Hey bro quick question. What's the measurements on that turntable? I want to know if it will fit on the stand I want.
Hey, the dimensions from google say: 452.0 mm (17.80") W x 352.0 mm (13.86") D x 141.6 mm (5.57") H
Great video! Just got this turntable and followed everything you did to get it all set up. Thanks!!
No worries glad I can help hope you enjoy it :)
That's the first time I've ever seen a Audio Technica lp120x In GOLD!! WOW!!
Can you ask him where he bought it. 🤔 , and more important how it Sounds.
Bestbuy Canada@@dave-874
Fantastic video. Helped so much. The manual was pretty well worthless. Thanks
Before you position a tonearm, you must adjust the feet until the turntable is perfectly level. Using a bubble level position at the center of the turntable is best. Only then can you rely on a scale and counterweight to be accuratw
That's very valid and yes I did not cover that. Having a flat base to start with definitely helps as it worked well for me; I personally did not adjust the feet and left all of that stock. I will do a test in the near future just to see how levelled the deck is. Cheers for the info
I just got this tt. Had a electrical burnt smell first spin. Figured may be some oils inside burning off. Been using it and noticed a noise coming from spindle/bearing. A low humming/knocking sound. Bad bearing?
Damn I'm sorry you're experiencing that. I don't think that's normal if I can take a wild guess. If you purchased it from a retailer I'd exchange it asap, I never experienced any burnt smells or any sounds with the spinning. My guess would be that there's either something rubbing against another part causing friction which is causing the sounds and the smell, or that the motor on the inside isn't running properly and may be overheating; but if I can guess it would be the parts rubbing together. did you purchase it new?
What speaker would you recommend to get for this turn table ?
If you want to do it the proper way then any Edifier would be good if you're on a budget, and if not even the higher end ones or a B&W setup. I'm running a Sonos 5 at the moment just because it's wireless and easy to use. The quality is great and I can manage all my setting through my phone. I got 2 Sonos 1's that connect in junction with the play 5 and act as "surround sound" though it's not really, and will sometimes even pair my sonos beam under my tv with everything to fill up the room. The most practical setup with sonos would be to have 2 play 5's act as your bookshelf speakers, that is something I plan to do in time. Hope this at least somewhat helped and let me know if you have any other questions Cheers
@@joshs3905 thank you so much man this helps a lot ✌️✌️
Why does everyone buy ONE DJ turntable? Please get a second one to keep it company! Plus isn’t that what they are supposed to do?!?
Sorry I'm a little late to this comment, I personally wouldn't use this turntable for any DJ'ing. While the preamp is a bit more powerful I don't think it has enough juice for precise scratching. Also they removed a few features from the previous model that were actually a lot better for mixing. My guess is that it was their way of making this more of a casual listening deck rather than a mixing deck
I NEED that color! It would match my Klipsch speakers perfectly!
It's currently back at best buy! They took it off the site for almost a year but it looks like the bronze is back! It's a best buy exclusive I believe
I just want a direct drive, semi-automatic USB turntable. The LP120 would be perfect if it had auto-stop. Is there anything on the market that fills that niche?
From my knowledge I don't think there are many high-end turntables that have that feature. Maybe keep shopping around till you find one that checks off all the boxes? Personally I never cared for the auto stop unless I am doing something away from the TT or if I'm letting someone inexperienced use it while I'm not there. I'm almost certain that the 1 or 2 times you may leave it spinning, is not going to harm your record or the turntable, at the very least just wear out your needle faster, which can always be replaced/upgraded anyways. Cheers!
@@joshs3905 Okay thanks. I think I'll just go for the LP120 if leaving it running a bit isn't too big of a deal.
@@Skrenja It's a really nice deck and there's a bunch of upgrades you can do to it which makes the experience all more fun. If you're planning to pay full pop for this TT, I'd recommend checking out the Fluance RT 84 or RT 85. It's a really nice deck that prioritizes quality over features. The 84/85 are the fully upgraded versions, however the RT 82 and RT 83 are a lot cheaper and all of the things you get on the 84/85 can be upgraded in the future; you just pay less upfront by going with the better version right away. Hope this helps, good luck on your search!
I have Anker Soundcore Mini can i connect it to this with a wire or something? im new to this stuff, i got this one ur showing from bestbuy but im not sure which speakers to get, it doesnt have bluetooth so i dont want big speakers sitting next to it, do u have any recommendations on amazon for a small speaker that will work with this, and if i need a wire to plug that speaker into the back of the vinyl?
This TT doesn't have Bluetooth unfortunately. Check out the Anker Soundsync A3352 Bluetooth Receiver, from my knowledge it will pair nicely with that soundcore. Sonos is nice because it only needs 1 direct AUX connection, and you can add on as many more speakers as you like that will work as a bluetooth junction with one another. Cheers!
@@joshs3905 im thinking oif getting the Klipsch R41M 50-Watt Bookshelf Speaker it has the same bronze color on it too. Do you think these would work? it only has a black and red cable ports on the back and not the red and white cable colors so im curious.
@@SVR2010REELS They look wired which will absolutely work. The most practical way to go is with a left and right speaker which is what you're looking at, the sound is full as opposed to mono. The next things to look at are the quality of the wood cabinets, and the speakers, but that is all based on your budget. Those speakers have great reviews online it looks like
