Thank you for the video! Now what are the benefits of a larger machine rather than the small one you have here? Is it just the size shaving or are there other things considered with a larger one?
When is your second video coming out?
When is your next video coming out? Great job on this one!!
Just found your channel and subbed, thankyou.
Can you get your measurements for the form off just the hide if you get the antlers and hide without the skull?
Great video! Thank you
Wow! I wanna make a stuffed coyote too!
I never knew this is how its done.
V GOOD... Is wood glue suitable for sticking skin
Hide shavings work really good as well
This was well done, I want to try it for myself, I really hope you’ll show us the next steps even if its another fish, I’d like to know the rest of the mounting process up to paint . Thanks again , I learned a lot.
No more videos ? Really enjoyed watching them
Can i use the ear butts liners with a bondo ear
Hey thanks for watching! You can use the ear butts with bondo ears but you have to make sure after your bondo kicks it will fit down into the ear but. You might have to trim it down to fit.
Thanks
Man I stumbled into this late, but worth it. Great series! You mentioned during any point of the process if you can’t continue immediately, you can return the cape to the freezer to preserve it, I’m just wondering at what point prior to the cape going on the form would the cape be ‘shelf stable’ ie able to be kept at room temp without spoilage Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey thanks for watching! After you apply the tan the hide is stable. You can mount it on the form at this point or return it to the freezer to be mounted later on. It will pretty much last forever if it’s frozen after it’s tanned.
When you tale it out od the pickel do you let it dry any amount of time before you flesh it and what is your neutralization process, thanks for the videos
Hey thanks for watching! I drain the hide and squeeze any solution out with my hand and take it to the fleshing machine and after I have it fleshed I will return it to the pickle for another 24 hours. Then remove the hide and mix a solution of 5 gallons of water to 5 TBS of baking soda per cape.let soak for 20 minutes to neutralize. Then hang up to drain for about two hours. Then roll in a towel skin side out and then you are ready to apply your tan.
Great video! Removing the cartilage is to avoiding to rot after some time? or to avoid dehydrating and losing the ear size?
Hey thanks for watching! Removing the cartilage will make it easier to install the ear liners and make a crisp clean edges on the ears for a more realistic look.
What size (number)needle, nozzle do you use on your air brush for a deer head? Do you use a single or double action air bush?
Hey thanks for watching! I think it is a #2 needle and it is a double action paasche airbrush
Very informative! Thank you.
Hey thanks for watching!
Do you use the medium ear butts or the large ones? I Havnt tried to fit a medium ear liner in a large ear butt, was gonna order some large ear butts but not sure if they fit the medium ear
Hey thanks for watching! I don’t think the large ear liners will fit the medium ear butts and vice versa. I always match them up.
Thanks for your great videos. I never turned ears before I had a flesher that did that and tanned it for me. I’m just doing deer for my self and family. Now I have to meat. How to turn ears and split lips and flesh and tan. I ripped both ears when trying to turn them. Can you sew them back together or could I use that two part ear liner epoxy and put them back together Thanks alot
Hey thanks for watching! You can sew them if it is the edge of the ear but if it is the center section I will use the super glue and dryer sheet method. Go over to my channel and look for the how to prep a deer hide for mounting video. I go over this technique in this video
How much do you charge for a fox squirrel? I’m in the jasper area
Do you flesh before tanning or after
Nice vid. I do pressure washing gorva living and i use my pressure washer to flesh a deer hide today. Worked well at about 2800-3000 psi with a yrllow tip. Beats using a knife and scrapper, imo.
Hey thanks for watching!
This is the BEST video on finishing a deer mount I have seen. Many tips and ideas for a great looking mount! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. With these tips and a little practice a person can complete a great looking mount. Thank you again.
Hey thanks for watching!
Just use a drill bit a haor bigger than the screw. Don’t be a Neanderthal.
Great content. Thanks for continuation of videos and picking up where you left off. After watching these I feel more confident Thank you !
Hey thanks for watching!
This was a great video
Hey thanks for watching!
Wish we had them black coyotes out here in northwest New Mexico. Nice job on it.
Hey thanks for watching!
Hey brother thanks for sharing your video and techniques. I went to school in 2021 but was only taught the Bondo way. Not a big fan of the results. Little scary at first removing the ear Cartlidge, but now I only do ear liners and butts. Really upped a better quality mount to my costumers. I'm following your channel and thanks again!
Hey thanks for watching! Yes the ear liners and ear butts are the fastest and most accurate way to create the detailed look of the ears in my opinion. The bondo method still has its place in certain situations also.
Could you possibly show a coyote tan or mount? Im teaching myself to tan and your videos seem very helpful! Would have never thought about using thin fabric and glue to mend holes in thin skin
Hey thanks for watching! Go over to my channel and check out my how to mount a coyote video and my how to tan a deer hide video. The tanning process is the same you just have to add a degreaser when working with coyote skins. If you haven’t already ready. Hit the subscribe button so you will know when I have new content available.
Thank you so much for your videos, I have a question, I have my tanned whitetail deer cape in the freezer, I've got some sewing to do ,but I only have little time each day to work on it, do I need to keep putting it back in the freezer or can I leave it out. Thank you 😊
Hey thanks for watching! I will put them in the freezer when I am ready to stop and pull them back out to thaw a few hours before I am ready to work on them again.
Do you have any videos on bob cats
were do you buy the skull cap
Hey thanks for watching! I get them from Mckenzie taxidermy supply. Most supply companies should have them.
How do you put wrinkles in using the plastic ear butts
I'm guessing maybe put thin layer of clay on ear butt & make wrinkles
Hey thanks for watching! Yes you can build them out of clay.
What is the most accurate way to measure your cape for a form in your opinion? I went by the neck meat measuring like your supposed to and the form I went with was to small across its forehead and the lip slot was to short. Any advice would be appreciated greatly. Like to see more of your videos. Thanks.
Hey thanks for watching! Go over to my RUclips channel and watch the how to skin a deer for taxidermy video. I go over the nose to eye measurement (A measurement)in the first part of the video and the neck measurements (B&C measurements)at the end of the video. This should help you get the correct measurements. If you only have the hide to measure. You can lay it out flat so that it’s on its side and take your (A) measurement nose to eye and your (B&C) measurements can be taken with a yardstick and insert it in the Y cut of the cape and multiply that by two.
@@ClearCreekTaxidermy Much appreciated.
Good video thanks for sharing keep them coming
Hey thanks for watching!
Super Amzing and very clear video
Hey thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing and making the videos.there awesome and very informative.only question I have is whom do you use for your taxidermy supplies and your forms? Also what clay and other brand products do you prefer?
Hey thanks for watching! I use McKenzie taxidermy supply and Matuska taxidermy supply. I use kritter clay for all of my eye work and marblex air dry clay for everything else.
What size ear liners and ear butts do you generally have to use? I just caped my deer head out and forgot to measure for my ears. I’m on the Tennessee Alabama border. Great video.
Hey thanks for watching! I will use the medium ear liners and butts on southern deer. They will fit a wide age range of deer. As I demonstrated in the video you can trim the ear liners down to fit your two year old to four year old deer and use them whole for the mature deer. I will use the large for the northern deer. The smaller ones are for very young deer.
Appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. Not every taxidermist is so inclined. At least not in my neck of the woods. BTW, who is Anna, you call her throughout the clip? JK😅...
Hey thanks for watching!
Could you please share me your contact details.
Absolutely beautiful. Great work on this buck.
Hey thanks for watching!
Question for you what do you put on antlers to preserve their color or are they ok to just stay on the mount? I have a nice moose mount and want to preserve the color of the antlers
Hey thanks for watching! There’s several different things that can be applied to antlers to help them keep that deep rich natural appearance. I like to use WD-40 or Lin seed oil but keep in mind that it will attract more dust. I will apply a generous amount to a cotton cloth and rub it on.
This is the best video I have seen so far!!! VERY DETAILED!! THIS HAS HELPED ME SO SO MUCH!! I CANT WAIT UNTIL I GET STARTED WITH MY FISH!! THANK YOU SIR!!
Hey thanks for watching! I will have a how to mount a fish video coming up in the near future so keep an eye out for it and don’t forget to hit the notification button so you will no when I have new content on the channel.
Can you share your guard setup measurements...as a starting point?
Hey thanks for watching! The way I set my guards is to have more blade exposed at the bottom than the top. The measurement from the blade to the guard is about 3 1/6 of a inch. This is going to change as you sharpen the blade over time causing the lip of the blade to get shorter. You will have to readjust the guard.
Fantastic knowledge, please keep up the info, Hi from Scotland
Hey thanks for watching!
Weird question…..how do you do the butt? I’m trying to learn as I want to get into deer, coyote and the odd critter mounts
