Looks like some nice looking calves there. Sounds like you've got a heck of a "To Do List" to tackle there. Congras to you & the Mrs. on the little one on the way. Good luck keeping those Lil' Boys ran off of the front porch. LOL
I've already thought of a few things, when the boys come around.
@@Heimerviewfarm She'll more that likely bring a boy home just like her dear ol' dad. LOL
@crslyrn if he's like me it's good. Lol
👍 Take in as much of the baby stage as possible. They grow fast, and make time go faster! Wishing you guys a great year!
That's what the hope with the new job allows.
Good to see you buddy. Crush them goals 2025. And congratulations on the little one.
So is that the beginning of a barn?
We kinda have a barn that's been neglected but I would like to make that a staple and revive it to fit my needs better.
You are really whipping that place into shape 👍👍👍
Lights and power are good. After the first winter here I got a good water line to the barn. Fighting with water is no fun. I recommend someplace to work on stuff. Cows will do fine for now with the windbreaks. You weren't kidding about the snow. Pretty bare around there.
I do have a small shop by the house but getting something that has equipment space under a roof will be nice. Electric will fix a bunch of my issues.
Any soil test done?
Yes I did, last fall I ended up taking samples and applied the proper soil amendments this year
When did you change your channel name
Last winter? I changed it for business purposes.
@ I’ve been gone awhile lol
@@Theblindfarmer I see that, saw you just posted not too long ago.
You have made quite a few changes around there 👍
@ yeah but it’s just a short I haven’t done any long form videos in a while
Rome wasn't built over night. Prioritize the needs and wants. Next step is getting that working area done. Cattle don't need a roof, build machine shed/shop next. Then you can worry about Cattle lot upgrades!
Won't take to much to get a shed up. I'm all for getting electric first because hauling water is getting old.
Looking good bud haven’t tuned in awhile merry Christmas
I bedded with a bunch of poor hay before I left for deer camp. They ate almost all of it. 😂 Nice looking calves.
It's crazy when you expect them to just lay on it, they think it's liquid gold.
@Heimerviewfarm If I put it in the feeder they would stand there looking at me like I was stupid. 🤣
@@farawayfarm2520 they sure are funny like that.
It was a nice fall, but some of us just needed a few more weeks. . . Awesome update, Jordan.
Nice setup, mine was supposed to go to the butcher yesterday but he didn’t come get them because I was lobster fishing, hopefully this coming Saturday
How long do you raise your steers?
@ a year
What's your reasoning for taking them in so small?
@ it just what works best for me
Makes sense always wondered what they hang at that size
Them little ones are pretty cute coloring Good call. A lot of guys take pride or get in an argument that they can get a steer to Market in 16 months. I don't care, all I care about is every steer that goes to Market is phenomenal . Maybe they're there in 16 months maybe it's 20 months
Quality or quantity, can't have both. I'm aiming for quality be used that's what keeps customers coming back.
Hope you had good luck with the deer. They are overpopulated. Too many long legged rodents.
I don't pull the trigger unless it's a nice buck or big doe. We had them but only a few fawns. Neighbors don't go in the woods until a few weeks before so that might have something to do with it.
We had the same weather up here. ....I got lucky and caught the cow yard right when it started freezing, bladed it out then we got some snow, nice and smooth now....The calves look good . Thanks Jordan.
It was pure slop the day before, I'm hoping for a warm day to pull the blade out.
Awesome Jordan hope you're well. Stay warm and maybe next year I can get up there.
Looking good Jordan and stay warm my friend. Take care and have a blessed weekend.
Longhorns 😂🤣
Nice setup
Thanks Kirk. Glad your still hanging around, looks like your mini ex is busy.
@ your cattle look great, and congrats, I haven’t posted a video in months, the mini excavator is busy hopefully full tilt this spring, I’m thinking about making a new channel with excavating and farming combined
How old are they? When we moved from corn to grass the weight of the animal dropped a little bit but the quality of the meat did not. All we lost was a couple of drums of rendering on the back fat But it takes really good quality feed to get the good marbling and a little bit of time
I think we are looking at 19 months maybe 18 on the smaller one. These should be a great size. I've heard good things about marbling among the British whites.
Mr. Larson is breeding some nice looking animals. These steers will keep you busy this Winter and help clean up your feed.
He has a great herd and is always adding color to it. Next year should better with the pastures established and the woods is opened up enough to graze as well.
Those British Whites are good lookin' cattle.....They would be my choice if I didn't have Herefords. Those 2 headed for freezer camp are nice looking steers.
They sure are, the first 2 are the best but the other 2 will be smaller but filled out just as good.
Nice looking group! You guys end up with any snow?
Nope, they were calling for it but it never got cold enough.
Critters look pretty dang good Jordan. Take care and have a blessed rest of the weekend my friend.
Thanks Tony, you too and God bless.
They are probably so mellow because their previous owner spent a lot of time around them! Looking forward to seeing those carcasses. Nice clean hides, nobody should complain !!
I think if the carcasses look good I might need to invest in genetics from that cow herd.
Your windbreak looks great.....Loading chutes and working area are always fun to figure out when you live in the land of deep snow.....Thanks.
Luckily we won't be loading out with snow, plan is next year to get a roof overhead for calving season.
Looks nice
Hope so. Gives me a starting point.
Everything looks really nice well planned out. You’ve been pretty busy this summer!
Wife pregnant, I would say more fun than busy
I know of a guy who has a few ideas.
Windbreak, pens and chute look good. Hope for normal moisture next year with grass hay.
The rain this spring really made the grass start, I'm glad to see it's still got life even after going 3 months with minimal moisture.
That windbreak turrend out nice! You got all the steers pre sold?
Getting everyone finalized this week.
Awesome 🤩 as you learn the quirks the bales will get better and the chutes and progress looks great.
Farming is always learning, trial by error, or at least that’s the way it is in my case. Take care Jordan and hope y’all have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks Tony, it is, were nothing more than scientist testing new things every year.
Looking good
Thanks, been chasing calves around so I know it's paying off.
@@Heimerviewfarm Chasing calves or getting goose eggs? LOL
Lol gotta give everything a trial run.
Somewhere on RUclips there is an old new holland animated film which explains the knotted cycle in slow motion, watch a couple of times and you will be set. Best modification I ever made to mine was a thermo fan on the knotted cover like a new Massey and a pair of reversing cameras with the screens mounted on the windscreen so I could watch each bale knot and the pickup without taking my eyes off the row, great for the neck.
I'm glad I've updated to a round baler since then. I'd like to possibly go to a jd baler in the future.
Man yeah!!!
I like birdsfoot trefoil in my pasture mix :)
I've heard things about it. Once we get our pastures in check, I'll probably trying putting the pastures in a grazing mix.
Hope it works but I’ve never had luck interseeding alfalfa like that.
What was the biggest issue?
Loose soil, it will work.... Those old Van Brunts get the job done... Thanks Jordan.
They sure do. Our sandy soil is fairly easy to work with
I would get yourself a spike tooth drag and drag the whole Field
Why, seems like a good way to rip up the existing stand
That wind break is gonna be awesome!! Keep after it, I love your determination and doing whatever works!! That will be an amazing stand in a few years, look fwd to seeing whats next!! 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
The windbreak will be great and when everything is setup as well. Hoping 5 years from now everything is setup and should make it easier on the herd.
@@Heimerviewfarm 😁😁👍🏻
Keep putting seeds out there. When it's their time they'll come up. If you're on that place 60 years from now as an old man you'll still have Alfalfa popping up
That's the plan. God never tilled the soil when he made the prairies
Looking good Jordan, keep up the good work my friend and hope you have a blessed Labor Day weekend.
Thanks Tony, hope things are going great for you as well.
That windbreak should work quite nicely. Keep us updated on the Alfalfa planting. I've seen it done that way into old pasture to thicken things up.
I will do. I made the video hoping you'd watch it.
@@Heimerviewfarm I'll make sure I comment when you put up a video. I usually always watch them.
@@farawayfarm2520 I do the same thing. Alot of my watching is on a TV and I forget to reply after watching them.
👍 Looking forward to seeing the windbreak when its done!
Once we have everything up it's gonna be nice
@@Heimerviewfarm Any plans for concrete?
@@e.a.bfarms eventually I'd like to get the steer lot concrete but first I'd like to get the shop built. I'll let the steers run it down a bit so the dirt will be easier to move.
Nice wind break, put in enough lower structure inside the wind break to keep the steers from pushing the tin off. The old Van Brunt drill is doing it's thing!
I'm considering putting cattle panels on the inside to help reinforce it but lumber might be just as good. Van brunt earned it's keep.
Looks like I'll be going into August with the first cutting. I'm hoping we get a shower thus afternoon.
It's that type of year. Get it when you can. Hope your hey supply is filling up, this winter could be rough.
@@Heimerviewfarm I have plenty of feed already but extra doesn't hurt.
Keep after it, you will have it exactly like you need it!! I love seeing the operation progress!!! Thank-you for the update !! 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
After taking that first cut, you can already see how much better the grasses look.
@@Heimerviewfarm Man yeah!!!
Just keep scratching in more seeds . You'll get it nice and thick
That's the plan, and the mature hay we took dropped seeds as well to help with the thickness of the grasses
👍
As I recall alfalfa, and Sudan originally came from arid parts of Africa. It takes some getting it started, but it's tough. Takk Skal du ha.
I'm amazed, gonna thicken the stand and should do well in the sandier soils.
