I recently lined this bag with the spray adhesive you showed. However, the fabric started fraying at the edge while I was stitching. Now, my bag is done, and the cotton fabric is fraying all along the seams. What did I do wrong, and how can I prevent this from happening in other projects? 😢 Your advice is appreciated!
What type of leather did you use?
Great looking bag. What types of leather did you use
How do I get the pattern
What stock paper do you use for the pattern - thank you 🙏
I typically go with 100lb cardstock for reusability, but any paper stock will work for one time use :)
@@petrichorleather thank you😍
How to make a How to, without the materials to do it. What weight leather? waxed or un waxed tread? I mean, we need to KNOW HOW TO.....
hi what thickness thread is that? Thanks!
Where did ya get every thing ya used for these ?
Perfect job, thanks, loadsa ideas.
awesome pattern with all the details, love the stitching, great build.
Love it, this is my next project. I also don’t know how you do a whole project without cursing at it.
Getting ready to buy this pattern on Etsy. Any chance you can tell me what type of leather you’re using here? I’m used to the veg tanned stuff. I like the “bumps” on this material. What is it?
Hey there! Sure thing, the material is oil tanned pebbles full grain hide. I picked up this stuff from Italy a while back so I can’t quite recall the retail name. A lot of places like Weaver or Springfield will sell oil tanned hides with pebble grain like this. I chose Oil Tan because they are much more forgiving in the rain, and this particular article is water resistant :) hope this helps and I hope you enjoy the build!
@@petrichorleather Oh I will. Thank you very much. I’ve got an old flannel shirt picked out for this build. Awesome looking bag. Always take my leather projects to work with me in a canvas shopping bag. Will have a much nicer bag now to carry my stuff in.
Just ordered the pattern and the “pebble grain”. Thanks for all your help. Great pattern!
@@dentonweiss3642 Awesome! I hope you enjoy the build!
Where i can fund the PDF Pattern? Can anyone help me wherebto find that oattern in this video. Thank you
Hey there! All of our patterns can be found on our website at: petrichorleatherco.com/collections/pdf-patterns Hope you enjoy the build!
Hola amigo, primero darte las gracias por compartir tu trabajo. Enhorabuena genial trabajo. Me gustaria saber que hilo usas. Gracias.
Hey there! Thank you for the kind words! I like to use 1mm Ritza Tiger Thread or 1mm VINYMO unwaxed thread. Both are great and very strong stuff. I’ve yet to have a failed stitch with either of them. Thanks!

Very nice. I would be proud to carry this bag made by you.
Шикарно !
So cool! What are the dimensions? I want something like this but smaller! Enough to fit my Tupperware and maybe two travel mugs. For lunch bag purposes. Do you have anything smaller?
Hey there! Thank you! The dimensions are approximately 13 x 10.5 x 6. This fits a thermos and medium Tupperware just right, with space for a laptop or book. A smaller bag we carry is the Hepburn, but it’s less of a rotate and more of a covered purse. Hope this helps!
@@petrichorleather thank you for the information. I went to your website to try to purchase this bag. However none are available this style/size. How can I go about getting one? Thank you for your time
@@sertsert-uz6jn ahh I see! I thought you were making one! It’s likely we sold out for the week if it’s not showing on the site. I’d be happy to put one together for you once I’m back in the shop next Saturday? I’m currently back home in Hawaii for vacation. If you’d like to shoot me over an email to Kelsyn@petrichorleatherco.com, I should have it ready to ship by Monday (10/2). Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!
A beautiful design and a stunning end result, Kelsyn, congratulations. I just bought the template and I miss the shoulder strap, which you can see in the photos but not in the video, do you know where I can find another template or another video with this strap? Thank you very much in advance, and congratulations on your work. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.
What fork did you use to make those holes in the leather? I am referring to the distance between tines. Thanks again.
Where did you get the plaid material? The tote came out really nice.
Hey Danny! I actually just picked it up from my local Joanns Fabric for just a few bucks a yard. There are also a lot of great sellers on Etsy, but I’m kind of an impulsive buyer when it comes to crafting material so I always have some on hand from Fabric sales :)
@@petrichorleather awesome. I have a joanns fabric not far from me. Also have a Hancock fabric not far away. Thanks for the info.
Nice work! I just found your channel. How long does that bag take you to complete?
Hey thanks so much? And welcome! This bag took me approximately 10 hours from printing the pattern to pouring myself a beer after the last stitch. Your mileage may vary depending on your experience with installing zippers and stitching speed. Hope you enjoy the build!
Finally finished this. Etsy wouldnt let me post the picture but damn! So beautiful!!!!! Came out amazing, thank you again for everything.
That’s awesome! Glad it turned out well!
So i got the pattern and noticed 2 doted lines going across the top. Is that just hte option to fold over the leather and get a nice look on it as opposed to dieing it etc?
That’s right! It’s not required to punch those dotted lines out, just an option for a rolled edge. It also helps hide the frayed fabric edge of an interior liner
@@petrichorleather so smart! Thank you for the fast reply! Love the pattern, can't wait to finish stitching it together!
For some reason I can’t get my finished tote to stand on its own. It wants to keep falling over? Any ideas?
Hey Shari! The temper of a leather has a lot to do with how well it will stand on its own. This is different than the leather weight. Often times you will see temper rated on a scale from 1 (soft) - 6 (hard). I typically use leathers that are a 3 to 4 (semi-soft) for bags. Alternatively, many makers will use a woven fabric bag stiffener which is a piece of fabric added to soft tempered leather in between the flannel and leather of the bag to allow it to stand on its own.
Just downloaded the pattern. What brand are your punches
Looks amazing. Great workmanship. Cheers mate from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks! It was certainly a fun build!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I really like this project. I usually make gun support leather and I wanted to open myself to other things and this was first on the list. I downloaded the pattern and made a few changes then I made a pattern out of poster board with leather weights and all materials listed on it. It is now three weeks later and I have all of the pieces cut and all of the holes punched. I'm using a Blacksmith oil tanned leather with a weight of around 4-5 OZ. All of the hardware is solid brass, with the color I'm using I think that will look the best. A few changes I made was to make the back and flap one piece and I made a flap for the back pocket. I also made a hard floor piece for the bottom gusset! Have a good one and I'll be watching for more projects from you!! Mike / 3MP Custom Leather, Kalispell Montana
Those sound like great additions to the design! I like that idea of using poster boards to make the pattern, that should get a lot of use instead of a disposable paper pattern. Thanks for picking up the pattern I hope you enjoyed the build!
Damn it took you three weeks to make some cutouts? I was thinking about making this but three weeks is a long time lol!
Hey, Mike! Do you have pictures of your finished product? A fellow Montanan would love to see it.
👍👍👍 но с озвучкой конечно было бы лучше))))
Absolutely magnificent
Had my pattern for this quite a while now....... found the perfect sides I wanna use for it finally
Awesome! Hunting down that perfect hide is 90% of the battle!
I have some soft 5-6oz chrome I got in a bundle, would you recommend it for this build or should I keep looking for a different use?
That’s perfect! That’s exactly what I used here!
Nice project, leather is very very beauty. Write a word about it. What a leather, where I can get ....etc, please.
Thanks for the kind words! The leather is an Oldtowne from Acadia Leather that I needed to rehab a tad bit due to it being on my leather racks for quite some time. Hit it with some Smiths Leather Balm and it perked right up.
This is a great looking bag. I'm considering it for a TLR camera bag. Can you tell me for what the three D rings on the back are intended?
Hey Doug! Yes, the 3 D-rings on the back are to attach a strap if you preferred to where the pack as crossbody vs a shoulder bag. You’d detach the clasps from the side D-Rings and place them at the top/back D-ring and either of the lower D Rings to make a crossbody strap. Hope this helps!
Oooh, K, that burned logo looks great! What tape/ material did you use to keep the soot off without leaving a nasty adhesive residue?
Hey Jason, Thanks! I used some Vinyl Transfer Tape (the tape is actually paper) with a Medium tack very similar to painters tape! Then I went in with some Black Acrylic to get a uniform look to the burn. Also seals in any odor from the burn :)
What are the dimensions of the bag?
Hey! The final dimensions are approximately 13” x 10.5” x 6”
@@petrichorleather Thanks
What are the final dimensions for the bag? Thanks!
Hey there! The final dimensions are 13” x 10.5” x 6”
Hi. Beautiful bag man. Let me ask you, what's the space between the holes 6mm? And what is the thickness of the leather? Thank you... :)
Hey thanks! Yes the hole distance is 6mm and each hole diameter is 1.5mm. The thickness of these particular leathers are between 4.5oz to 5.5oz.
@@petrichorleather Nice. Thanks for the response... I will get the pattern on Etsy and make it without lining. Great bag.
Nice and neat!! What's the stitching called :D
Hey! This is a basket weave, but you could also just do a simple cross stitch to get a similar style!
I didn't know the burning technique exist! Thank you for sharing!
You can run your stitches in between your seems and tie it off with a square knot to finish your stitching runs. It leaves clean finish that will never come apart! You would do yourself a big favor by getting your hands on a stitching pony! Really nice work!! "3MP Custom Leather".
Hey thanks! I hear ya with the stitching pony, I use a smaller one at the moment but am likely going to pick up a Dream Factory Large once I get my new shop up and running!
Wow, great job. That's a very nice bag. zone34 here!
Nice work done. I liked the stiches (X stiches) idea is superb thanks for giving stiching ideas 👍
Wow youre amazing... i love this lining
Hey thanks, much appreciated! I think I’ll need to do more lined projects, I really liked how this one turned out :)
Hi.i made the leather rose too... but your work is amazing
Great job. Really like that you added the leaves. after the slingbag that I still need to make, and a few small projects (breast collar for my son’s horse), I will hopefully get to this pattern. I have some cool purple upholstery leather that will probably be perfect for this.
Dang, man, that is some "K"ommitment posting during the super bowl! I thought the torch technique was super cool! But my favorite part was not only did you include a stem but you also added leaves! So beautiful! Great work man
Hey thanks! Haha, yea working during super bowl, just wanted to make sure I had this out in time for folks to make roses before Valentine’s Day :)
@@petrichorleather and we're so thankful you did!
Nice video and nice pattern 👍 Waiting for the free pattern 🤓
Hey thanks, much appreciated! Free pattern is available in the shop actually? Link is in the description and there should be three other freebies to download as well!
Hahaha, TLDW! I will definitely be watching the full length version but had to comment here. Exceptional cuts (leather of course, but I'm referring to the filmography in this case)! The close ups of the Sinabroks were sick and painful for me but oh so wonderful. My favorite part, however, was when you used the spray liner and showed (without words) how to check the right level of tackiness. This was an appetite whetting teaser for sure!! Thanks, K!
Haha thanks! I definitely enjoyed filming this! Yea those Sinabroks are might pretty. I like that, “Exceptional Cuts” line, might need to name a playlist to keep these short clips!
ALSO, love the name :)
Haha I feel like naming the leather goods is half the fun!
@@petrichorleather I'm still quite new to the selling game, so I haven't started that process yet. It's been more of a hobby for the past few years, but I've started drawing some interest in the things I've been creating lately, so I'm close to taking the plunge into selling. I feel like i should just jump in, but then something tells me to get a few designs perfected before I do that. Not just bags, but guitar straps, wallets, card holders, etc. It's just a really slow process.
