    Ed, what did you mean get back to the live Cambium level so it could live. You were using the small grinder (brand please). So this led me to believe if I can keep the cambium alive can it grow over the dead bark? Is this possible? Thank You, very informative.

    Lots of conflicting information in this video. Cedars don't like to have moist roots all the time. Quite the opposite they like to be a little dry depending on your climate. Ive repotted lots of cedars never lost one. Not sure what you're doing to lose a cedar if you're doing it right.

    Thanks for making this video I personally fell in love with ceders I live in hawaii I grew up here and a cedar tree is just not common here actually I never seen them but my personal favorite is the hortsman atlas ceder I just make sure a have a good drainage soil with a bit of acidic properties and it’s very humid here so they like it and are doing very well but I still have lots more to learn from you

    What if you cut back the new growth after root prune

    • @oneandonlyjaybee
      @oneandonlyjaybee 2 года назад

      Although I am not massively experienced I do have 2 blue atlas cedars that I am training. Even when I slip potted them up to a larger pot from their tiny nursery pots to put some bulk on, they both shed almost all their needles afterward despite me not actually working on the roots and simply potting them up. Both recovered well the next year and have thrived since. I would do pruning at least a year after any root work.

    Cool I was wondering how to shorten the needle on my Mikawa pine this whole time I thought I had to get the kotobuki variety for short needle pine bonsai . I live in Hawaii so It’s warm and we have a long growing season and I think that black pines like salt air because they grow near the beach sometimes iv seen black pine trees growing on beach cliffs too . Wow that tree was beautiful
