(FIRST CLASS) United Express ERJ-175 Minneapolis to Chicago O’Hare
I was on Holiday/Post Deployment leave, and was wrapping up my few days in Minnesota after visiting some relatives! I was now going on Part 2 of my overall trip, which had me flying from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Roanoke, VA to see a good buddy of mine who currently lives there. My first flight was in first class on a United Express Embraer 175, flying to Chicago O’Hare in order to connect to Roanoke. I was absolutely stoked about this flight being that this would be my very first time flying to O’Hare, which was a dream I had since I was a young kid. The busy and collossal airport was a sight to behold, even during the later times of COVID-19.

(Outside and Inside View) Delta Boeing 717 Arrival into Syracuse

Hey y’all! This is my first video to upload in over a year. Sorry I was away for such a long time, but COVID-19 along with a deployment to the Middle East kept me from flying on civilian aircraft for awhile. Now that I’m back in the United States and the aviation industry is now recovering bit by bit, I’ll be doing a lot more trip reports in the near future. This flight was another one of my us...

This was the second leg of my journey from Syracuse, NY to Atlanta, GA, to fly home for Thanksgiving from Fort Drum! This flight had me flying from Detroit to Atlanta on a still-new Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900! This was my first time flying on the 900 series, and I had the privilege of getting a detailed look at the flight deck while conversing with the captain before taking my seat. The fli...

I was on four day pass from Fort Drum, and this was the first leg of my trip home from Syracuse, NY (KSYR) to Atlanta, GA (KATL) while flying home for Thanksgiving! My first leg had me connecting through Detroit (KDTW) in order to catch my next flight to Atlanta, and I was very fortunate to fly on my favorite commercial aircraft currently flying, the Boeing 717! While the skies were overcast th...

I was on four day pass from Fort Drum, and I flying out to Minnesota to see some relatives who invited me out to see them! My flight from Syracuse to Minneapolis had some spectacular views including daybreak above the cloud ceiling, the Great Lakes, and a superb sight of the skyscrapers of Downtown Minneapolis while on approach for MSP! I was also flying in Delta Comfort, in which the leg room ...

I was on three weeks of leave from Fort Drum and had spent my first four days in Virginia visiting a good friend of mine and his family! After wrapping up my time in Roanoke, VA, it was time to spend the remainder of my leave at home in Georgia. The relatively short flight from Roanoke to Atlanta was especially gorgeous with a tremendous amount of Appalachian scenery during the departure and cl...

This was the second leg of my trip from Ogdensburg, NY to Roanoke, VA. I was kicking off three weeks of leave from Fort Drum by flying to Virginia first to see a few good buddies of mine! The flight was rather brief with a cruising altitude below the flight levels and the majority of my time in the air being either climb or descent. It was a bit turbulent coming out of Dulles but it made for an...

This was taken on 27March2019, while I was participating in the evening flag detail at 10th Mountain Division Headquarters in Fort Drum, NY. This was the daily lowering of the colors, which happens everyday at 1700 (5:00 PM) to signal the end of the duty day, with the flag being lowered, folded, and retired for the night. The ceremony is accompanied by the playing of “To the Colors” and “Retrea...

This was the second leg of my trip from Syracuse, NY to Savannah, GA! I was traveling down to Savannah on a four-day pass from Fort Drum to meet up with my family for a long weekend trip. This was without a doubt the best commercial flight that I have been on in years, as I was flying from the colossal and scenic New York City-JFK Airport down to my favorite city of Savannah, Georgia where I ev...

I was returning back to Fort Drum after spending a four day pass back home in Georgia for Veterans’ Day. My flight back up to New York State was on a Delta Air Lines MD-90. Regardless the flight was still quite fun and the servi...

I was visiting some civilian friends of mine for a beach trip while I was on a long-weekend pass from Fort Drum! This was the second leg of my journey from Syracuse, NY to Myrtle Beach, SC. Like my previous flight from KSYR to KCLT, I was on another American Airlines Airbus A319. The flight duration from KCLT to KMYR was likely the shortest I’ve ever flown thus far commercially. I spent 26 years in the Army, and i remember each day that we waited for retreat and to the colors before we were released, such an amazing patriotic ceremony
Just flew on one of these❤
I was part of flag detail on Christmas at Fort Leonard Wood in 2022 and we raised the Garrison flag, which was enormous (20’x38’). Such an honor 🇺🇸 🫡
The garrison flag is always the biggest and best to raise. I also actually did flag detail at Fort Leonard Wood earlier this year while out at ALC, was also the cannon guy.
My youngest son was at fort leinardwoid . Y
Funny my parents came from each of these city’s 😂
Back in the plane, go to home anyways. Your wife hates you
Cringe
11 Mar 2020 at PBG when a small fire started in the cockpit near the observers 02 mask following the APU generator being selected. The aircraft was being towed for maintenance following a separate incident where the aircraft came into contact with a jet bridge. Sadly this aircraft is now written off.
😳 WOW. Thanks for letting me know, although that’s extremely heartbreaking.
I never knew that the salute was fired before the start of To The Colors. Being on the far south of the post, the sound never reached us until after the bugle started on our speakers.
So it’s technically supposed to be fired on the first note of “To the Colors,” but it’s easier to pull the lanyard during the pause between the two bugle calls. It also sounds better by doing that.
While the CRJ might be small and uncomfortable to ride on, they are very relaible and safe planes to be on.
The music got me every time. 😂
I never thought there was a day I would miss this. Yes, I've done flag duty on a weekend. Yes, it sucks in the moment, but looking back now, being in charge of our countries colors for a day was the greatest honor ever. The other one was the funeral details I got called to do.
how about from roanoke a.l. stright to newark new jersey

Nice trip report. Liked and subscribed. It's good to have IFE on a narrowbody although it's quite small and dated
cool video, co-pilot is like "nom nom's, chips!" lol
Nice. I think I'll try this flight in X Plane. Only I'll use the ERJ 145 or something similar. I don't have the A319.
You have any CRJ’s on X-Plane? I think American rotates a CRJ-700/900 to Syracuse from Charlotte every now and then. Could be wrong though. Either way it would be an interesting journey, flying from a smaller regional airport in upstate NY to a major hub in the South.
I honor and thnk u for ur service
THAT PLANE IS AWFUL. Not to mention you have to bend over to look out the window, terrible plane. Old and nasty
Thans for your excellent video.
OMG I Love this!!! I'm an aviation freak and I live here in Syracuse! Thank you so much for your service, your great video, and being a good dude!!! Thanks Zach. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!
I’m never forget when I was on a plane . Period..

Nice quality for 4:3 aspect ratio! Good video dude! 😎✈️
Yeah I had some editing issues with this one. Glad you think it still turned out alright lol
...haha...spooling up before even reaching the threshold! Pilots know how to have fun at times.
What is a "breaking" system? And why would one want a system designed to break on an airplane?
After doing post production I realized that I used “breaking” instead of “braking,” but by then I had already uploaded the video lol. Just a simple mistake.
How I wish people wouldn't move their camera so much.
I think he was feeling "pressure" while in the cockpit, wanted to just film quick and get out, not irritate the pilot or crew. That's the way it looked.
@@mikem.2078 You are correct. This was over four years ago when I was still relatively new to filming. Also the captain on this flight was kind of lukewarm with me having a seat up there, he wasn’t as friendly as other crews that I’ve visited on other flight decks.
I got unlucky enough to get stuck on division staff duty back around '08 or 09. I got to pull the lanyard on the cannon both at reveille and retreat and, being a grunt who's never touched a arty piece in his life, I remember the pull being a little (lot) stiffer than I thought it would be and my first pull did not fire and I missed the first beat of reveille. Never talked shit about the cannon firing late again after that. Was great fun setting off car alarms all around Hays hall though.

With foresight back in the day LaGuardia could have been combined with Flushing Airport and Grand Central Airport and today would rival Kennedy for size
Nearly 100 years ago, nobody could have foreseen what aviation looks like today with jet airliners and super long haul flights.
deployed the day prior to Afghanistan but god damn can I remember this sound, working from 3-71 Cav.
Is the ERJ-145 scary ? I'm flying on a AA ERJ-145 next week for the first time, and have no idea what to expect. Can I carry a backpack on the plane ?
The ERJ-145 is more susceptible to turbulence, so while ascending and descending it may get tossed around a bit, but you’ll have nothing to worry about, it’s completely normal. You can take a backpack on a plane as carry on, but if your carry on is too large, they may make you check it at the gate.
Me too! Tomorrow - same route. 😬😩 I have never been on such a small aircraft. I already have anxiety flying so this should be fun!
