How much did it cost in Electricity to run my EV for a year?
i wish, atto3 had lets say, 10 more kWh on its capacity. That should be AMAZING because this is the only "question" for me. The ~350km average distance, hmmm, need some more!
You are right about two modes of regen. But you are wrong on the one which is not OPD. The other one is, unfortunately, not a free coast. It will regenarat 12-15 kW at speeds 20-100 km/h. That is i significant amount of braking. Speed is lost rapidly, and I do not like it!
The 22kW AC option is very important.
All of these things like how fast it stops and so on should be customizable in the panel as it's just a software thing. There could be a setting where you can edit the curve yourself to get it to behave exactly how you want. But it seems car manufacturers don't prioritize advanced users. It could also be a certification thing of course, I don't know the rules.
Got mine on 8th June 2024 still waiting for Volvo to sort out my IITC problems. Absolutely sick of waiting don’t think there’s a fix for it
It's a lot heavier per kilo? 😅
Seeing your video now and 14:45 made me smile as a year later and again we have powercuts. Great video!
Indeed!
Finally a EV car reviewer that provides the information and language that I want to hear. Thank you! I would like to know a bit more about the cooling system used to maintain the batteries. I reside in a warmer than usually environment.
Thanks for watching
Warmer climate should not be an issue given this car has an active battery cooling system
Very nice car and review but too small battery for me
Thanks for watching
Thank you 🙏🏼

The harman kardon soundbar sounds bad with bass heavy music. its too heavy
So I cannot include it in the video because of copyright. But I always test the sound system in the cars I try with the same song hehe. To get a feel for it. For me the EX30 is a solid second following the sound in bmw i5 courtesy of the b&w sound system
@@TheFutureisElectric i have a EX30 it’s not bad but it’s not the best
@@JJonaskeni notice the bass started distorting on high volume.
Hired ob recently and would I buy it Answer No. Did not like the Nao. Prefer Google Maps, driving felt like ice skating. no sense of torque. , The main issue is charging, I live in the VBD and there is no overnight charging. The other concern I have is what will the resale value be in 19, 15 years,. I am looking forward to self-drive options. My next hire will be a Tesla to compare
Thank you 🙏
Thank you! 🙏
Getting my SMER on 2nd September. Had a test drive in the performance version but I found the acceleration to be rather uncomfortable (My neck muscles couldn't handle it) and the handling isn't really up to it either. The 5.3 secs 0-100kph of the SMER is more than adequate for my needs.
My TMER shames Cupras, BMWs, Mercedes.. but in the hot weather in Israel my average consumption is 22 kwh/km.
Nice review! Thank you!
OPD is flawed as you say. It also doesn't fully stop early enough at low speeds and doesn't work in reverse. If you are used to a polestar 2 or BMW i3 you won't like it.
Great review! Thank-you. I wanted to ask, when one pedal driving is off, does the car still regen when braking?
No
@@StuMunro Wow ok, that's great to know, thank you. I'm getting my MY25 EX30 in October - can't wait!
I am considering an EX30 Twin Motor Plus (with some extra options) right now. Donwngrading on size, but more than twice the horsepower from my current Skoda Enyaq iV 80. I'm after the AWD as I live in rural Sweden and we get a lot of snow in the winter. The performance is a bonus, but I'm not complaining 😅
Go for it! It’s great
@@TheFutureisElectric Yep, I probably will 😅
Excellent review, just some pointers: 2:46 windnoise is definitely present, especially with 80km/hr plus speeds. We recently experienced 150-180km/hr (the limit of such a car) and the wind noise is quite hefty. 4:00 it's OPD is abysmal and virtually non existent especially when compared to other Volvo EVs. We complained in early feb about this to Volvo as they should just get in their EX40 and EC40 & just copy and paste the region system. Also OPD is disabled during reversing and when AWD is enforced (as the car essentially drives in RWD when not needed) 4:41 the jerkiness you mentioned when braking is horrendous and was explained to both our dealer and Volvo. This sudden and aggressive braking (even when travelling at 1km/hr, the brakes are applied in full force), makes certain parking manoeuvres in hills very difficulty plus you look like an ass when trying to get out slowly from a crossroad or roundabout 8:25 the indicator is a known issue where it continue to blink even when you made the turn; also it has no click sign to show it has switched off 8:40 software version 1.4 has lessened this big brother safety approach as pre 1.3.1 was rather silly. Used to complain to us when we look left and right during crossroads. Also polarised sunglasses aren;t supported 16:07 software version 1.4 adds PIN code protection to the glovebox 17:30 would have been interesting to note that even though the car starts at 39,900€, the model tested here was closer to 56,000€, so the recycled interior might irritate some at that price point 24:25 while we agree that it will give around 400km in most situations, in summer with AC at 24C (and temps 31-40C), the range drops considerably to around 300-350km The above is an experience of an EX30 twin for the past 5 months. Most of the above are comparisons to the way better EX40 (xc40 recharge) we drive constantly as well, so new EV owners will fall heels for the EX30. Would I buy one again? Probably but there are so many cheaper & better competitors out there. Is it an excellent car? Definitely but it lacks the finesse and quality of what a Volvo essentially are known for.
Thanks for sharing. I do tend to agree that the option for a more luxurious interior should be available. It can still be recycled I have no issues with that, but more premium than the current options.
@@TheFutureisElectric seats options have breeze (much thicker and premium material) and also the fantastic recycled wool option which frankly will be my future choice if I stick to Volvo
I have just got my EX30. What a great car!!

Yes sir! You are correct ✅ they don’t make superhero’s movies as good as they used too
Does it have apple car play?
At the time of recording, no. However this is promised with a software update
the core files are already in the car themselves (there's even a hidden CarPlay icon), just not enabled yet. This happened with their past ex40 and ec40 (and their 60/90 cars)
I appreciate your review. How does a charging cycle works actually? If I recharge the battery from lets say 40 to 80%, is that one full cycle?
Thanks for watching. No, full cycles are 0-100% :-)
Not a good EV in my experience. My AC charging issue was the Born half charged overnight which nobody could explain from October 22 to May 23 when I purchased another car. VW retailer’s solicitors then said in 29 June 2023 that a VW website had a small print footnote saying “VWG test data for comparison purposes. ….Charging time will be longer in cold weather or if battery safeguarding technology is activated.” It was in a VW website not Cupra and was copyright 2023 when I purchased in 2022! It was also very strange that nobody from Cupra head office or the retailer ever mentioned this during the six months of issues! So obviously they didn’t know what battery safe was or why it was relevant. It still means nothing to me, it is unexplained why it activates on what basis and when! But apparently means in VW parallel universe it’s ok for my car to half speed charge 75/80% of the time in an integral closed garage!!!!! I don’t think the footnote would suggest that an ordinary garaged vehicle will half charge so much! Just hope nobody else suffers with random safety!!!
The future is combustion.
Only if you're still using the horse and cart.
Let’s check back on that in 2050 ;-)

Any idea if the smart #3 is coming to Malta soon? Incentives for EV are very tempting and I'm thinking to change car by the end of the year. I'm a bit undecided if I should be waiting for the new Smart which I hope will come in a similar price range or if I should go for the BYD A3 which is already available. Not many options EV options that can compete with this BYD other than the ones from MG maybe.
where is review? What a scam in 1 minute
The full review is linked …
Why did you multiply 7 days to thee 5000 cycles?
Since that’s is how long it takes the average driver here in Malta to drive the range the car gives on a full charge, meaning 7*5000 cycles gives how long it takes to reach the batteries expected cycle life, since one cycle is being used every 7 days.
Hello and regards to Malta, you will become my favorites canal ..... because i was living 3 time in Malta and this is my favorite island. Good Luck my friend.

How efficient is the heat pump?
That’s an interesting question. I’ve never looked into how the efficiency varies from one model to another on their heat pump. It might be hard to find that documented though
@@TheFutureisElectric I know GM has published online stating all the innovations built into the one they use. I have also read range results from Kea/Hyundai comparing results between a heat pump and without, same models, with very little difference in results.
Almost made me cry this bs the world is their and always be there ev's will not change a thing. If we really want to save the environment we need to consume less. And yes volvo is doing it because if legislation as there ar penalties for every ice care made. So lets not kid our selfs. But overall a nice care the only volvo i would consider. Sadly the back space is a bit cramped.
EVs are a grift and nothing to do with the environment.
Bedankt nuttige informatie.
Thanks
Steven Persensky Thank you for a very informative video. After listening to your presentation of the 2 different battery chemistry models, do you regret that Volvo´s largest battery option does not use LFP chemistry? I look forward to your next video and a more in depth review of the EX30´s regenerative breaking system!
Thank you, I’m yet to see a high performance model using LFP chemistry, technically it doesn’t seem possible as yet. The larger battery is there to fulfill the performance variant, which at the time being at least need to be NCM
There’s an optional 22kw charging capability. Only available in the ultra trim on the SMER and TWIN. Edit: Only in Europe it seems
May have missed that
Also Market dependant that I am aware of. As in Thailand the Ultra Twin Motor only has 11kw. 😢😢😢
Australia too we only get the 11kw.... And alot of us have 3 phase already
@@TheFutureisElectric wife charges hers at 22kw and sticks to it perfectly.

Hi and thanks for the great video.Very specific and clear for the real world driving and charging. I would like to ask…i m in a dilemma and I was wondering if you could help me.I live in Cyprus where the longest distance is aprx 200 km and only once a month I have to go that far.Usually it s 35km to go and back. I m interested for the basic models (cheapest) of the following: Jeep Avenger 56 kWh(€38500), Nissan Ariya 63kwh(€40500) and Hyundai Kona 64kwh(€42500). Which one would you recommend? Thanks
Thanks! I think all the vehicles you mentioned are very different in their design language. I’d go for the one that appeals to you the most. I’ve reviewed all of these cars on the channel :-)
@@TheFutureisElectricThanks for the reply!I m most confused about the range and efficiency…kona and Ariya have similar range but which one is more efficient?I like the avenger most …even thow is only 56 kWh is it as efficient as the others ?
Bravo et merci . Excellente video . Merci
Thank you! Merci! :-) enjoy the car
Wonderful review of BYD , EV of the year worldwide.
Thanks 🙏
Your calculations are wrong. In the rest of the world. But must have special mathematics there.
Please explain where I am wrong…
The car is generally great, but the price is not and thats why you wont see many on them on the road.
Great review! I'm really hoping cupra (and VW) fix the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and the lack of physical climate controls soon. If so, this is my next car.
It’s is a great car, I really enjoyed it
I still cannot fathom why one-pedal driving was not made a selectable option. Other brands sometimes have flappy paddles on the back of the steering wheel to allow for different degrees of regen, with the strongest being one-pedal driving. I love that feature on my car and think I would miss it. Otherwise, I think that the Cupra Born is very compelling.
Agreed 👍
Les palettes derrière le volant sont derrière le volant sur la nouvelle version .
I agree, cannot undsrstand why they dont have that as an option. Also I would like a bit more hard regen as an option also, like Tesla or the Mini Cooper electric.
The driving range is a bit of a vexed question. It depends on the type of driving you do on the highway. for example you can reduce that figure by 30%. That’s from Personal experience.
Very clear and systematic delivery of the content. Thank you very much! Could I ask what is considered 1 charge cycle?
Thanks, a charge cycle is a full charging from 0% to 100% and 100% back down to 0%
@@TheFutureisElectric sorry for my ignorance but honestly, I don't really understand whether charging from 30% t0 80% would be considered a charge cycle or not? And if we avoid draining to 0% and then charging up to 100% would we "cheat" the battery out of extra charge cycles? (It is a genuine question, I am really trying to get my head around the concept of charge cycles). Thank you
Many thanks for the video! I saw one other reviewer recommend AC charging over DC charging - do you have any thoughts on this? Also, I heard lower kw charging is healthier for the battery - assuming you have the 20-30 hour window a week you don't drive at all - why wouldn't it be best to use the basic cable?
Regarding AC vs DC charging, I’ve seen studies and arguments on both sides of the table. However most early studies where based on the Nissan leaf, which lacked any form of battery cooling, meaning during charging the battery used to get very hot, which thus resulted in faster degradation. Nowadays nearly all models have cooling, meaning the battery does not get very hot, neither in the dc charging process. Regarding charging on slower socket, if you have the time no problem. The problem can come if the wiring inside the socket is not up to scratch and maintained, as that is a receipt for over heating in the plug
@@TheFutureisElectric Many thanks for the reply!!
Luke, I have a question to the charging cycles comment you made in this video. True, you do not need to charge your EV every day, so the charge cycle takes longer to reach. So why do they offer the same 8 year warranty on PHEVs? I own the new Peugeot 308 PHEV and charge every day. With that logic, I should reach the end of the charge cycles much sooner than a normal EV. But yet again, all manufactures ask the users to charge the car every day. This is so confusing lol. What's your opinion on this?
Very valid points. Keep in mind a charge cycle is 0-100%, if you charge to 50-100 and then again 50-100 then you’ve got your 1 cycle in 2 charging sessions. No two batteries will perform the same, even from the same manufacturer, it’s a chemical process which takes place in its lifetime, and while averages exist, it’s hard to forecast exactly. About the warranties, on the EVs side, the 8 years I believe is very conservative. In fact legislation in the US is already in the works to push EV battery warranties to 15 years. I believe they have kept it a 8 years more from an accounting perspective, for the brands to have closure on the cars lifetime value to them, once warranty responsibility expires. I think 8 year warranty on the PHEV battery is a further stamp of approval on the battery longevity, which as you are saying will reach the charge cycles far quicker
