Hi Jason, Good to hear from you - long time no see. I bet the Castle sounded pretty decent there. I saw a video of it on the Lickey - it looked a bit odd because it wasn't being fired (no dark smoke) and the safety valves were lifting. I would have thought the fireman would have been working pretty hard all the way up with no steam to spare! The 47 sounded a bit thrashy, mind you! All the best Pete

Hi Tony, It's gone into LM to be an exhibit at the annual Rail Live event. The locomotive has done some main line testing so will hopefully be out soon earning its keep. Interesting that 37608 is 63 in July...

Thanks Tony. There seem to be dozens of these units at LM along with new 777s. I guess modern units aren't as easy to introduce into service as older stuff!

Yes indeed. The undergrowth has now taken over and there are very few locations left in the Hatton area today. Even this one is going thanks to the bushes allowed to grow in the 6 foot!

@@xr6lad Electric cars and buses go up gradients so why can't battery electric trains? You simply need a battery with sufficient charge to tackle the route. My EV goes up hills no problem (and generates power going down them). Note also that diesel trains also use more fuel going up hills.

It is lithium batteries used.

Other battery technology simply is not developed enough for large scale use. Lithium batteries more or less do not exist BECAUSE of lithiums flamability, almost all batteries are Lithium-ION, not pure Lithium.

@@BritishTrainspotting The batteries are not Lithium-ION on the 230s. The 230s use Lithium-Titanium-Oxide batteries. Lead Acid batteries also work fine on trains like the London Underground Battery Locos, Class 419 MLVs.

Most of the problems with the 230 class have been with the diesels, so best to stick with batteries.
