2024 Orbea Rallon // Is this a giant all mountain bike or a racer's dream?
The 2024 Rallon isn't the bump soaking enduro rig you might think it is...but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Testing the new 2022 Pivot Firebird
Hi, what length stem did you run with this build? Awesome review thank you.
@@surfcam101 thanks for the line! I believe I was on a 42mm stem for this guy. Miss this bike all the time
Thanks @Jon Mottern for this review. I had a very hard time deciding on the SX and thanks to this review I pulled the trigger. This is exactly 100% the bike I wanted. I have built it from frame with Kitsuma AIR and thanks to more overall damping this bike is a rocketship, it is very supportive and playful. I was running full 29er enduro before and this is much more agile on slower speeds and still super stable at high speeds. And is climbs great, but 27.5 wheel is a limiting factor here, so nothing to complain, if you want a mullet you need to take this into account.
Im 510 with a long torso. Med goes from 5-8 to 5-11. But large is 510 to 6-3. I generally like a larger feeling bike but my old trail bike is alot smaller then this bike. Shoud i run the med or large from your opinion from riding this bike
@@lincoln_tk3022 man it’s so hard to answer that question without seeing you on the bike. Bike manufacturers generally suggest short torso folks sizing down and long torso folks sizing up. But that doesn’t always ring true either.
How many bikes do u have?!
Some of the jankiest jank I’ve ever seen in my janky life!
idk if that just me thinking this way. So the lock only able to secure the frame but they could still taking those wheels easily I assume?
Welcome Ebro.
Love the reviews, any chance of review a Canfield tilt in the future?
CommenÇal
Commencal is brand that performs so high and wins so many gravity oriented races that i don't think they care about advertising or getting bikes to the testers for reviews.
you can find fault with Magic Mary and Big Betty combo?? wow. these are probably the top dh racing tires in the world.
@@thecount1001I feel much differently about the radial super gravity variety.
Nice review, Jon. I will be coming back to your channel. Your format is great.
@@davin-ross hey thanks!
Sweet review. Recognized a few of those trails. Stoked to ride mine there!
Do you know where I can demo this bike on the Front Range?
Nice sick bike, I’m not sure but did you say what size your testing and your height? If not I’m curious.
Have you tried the YT Decoy? I’m deciding between the two bikes at the moment, your review is super helpful
I want the YT Decoy but the YT battery is a bit of a no starter - am I right to think that - it`s leading me to this bike; would love the SX but can`t afford it - this one is on sale! Kind of want a EP801 as well though. Somebody - set me straight!
I wouldn't buy a rack without tool-less anti-rattle. Esp at that price, no excuse anymore not to have that.
Subscribed. I live up north CO now but so many miles in the Golden Morrison area when I lived in the area.
Similar on my ohlins meta ht size small mullet. It is sluggish at times. The bike opens up with speed. It’s playful but needs a little extra and is very fun now that I understand the bike.
Owesome ride. Respect. I am torn between Jibb and Madonna now. Have to go with XXL and I am scared of the weight. Having spire and meta TR now and looking for the third bike LOL. Love the raaw bikes.
No creak?
I'll give you my review it's the best 7 grand you're ever going to spend
It could be a 2022 I have one
Mine loosened up on me about a week or two after I got it this spring. Applied a little blue loctite and re-torqued and it’s been solid since that time through several enduro races and bike park days! Definitely keeping an eye on it though 😆
How much did u get ig for
Have you tried the altitude in a mullet setup? I am between this and the nomad, I would be riding mostly northern front ranges trails like maryland mountain, lefthand canyon, horsetooth, etc. Any thoughts?
@@ts-rf7er I currently have it set up as a mullet. Honestly I miss my nomad. Only in long sections of successive hits does VPP start to feel a little Thuddy and the Altitude shines over it. Everywhere else the nomad feels more accessible, supported and well rounded. The current nomad is almost perfect but I bet there’s a refresh coming soon given the new VPP platforms on the Bronson and as of today the Hightower.
@@MTBJonnie ah ok thanks. Yeah I saw the bronson geo is basically the same as the current nomad which is appealing because nomad will likely be overbiked me for most places but Bronson is out of my budget since its new without the massive discounts we are seeing. Ok leaning towards nomad with your input last question, have you rode the sb160? I read a few reviews saying its maneuverable and more like a big trail bike for how well it climbs and corners but the wheelbase says otherwise to me in medium at least.
I love this bike but the top linkage looks very wide and flimsy
how long are you and how do you fit the xl in climbs and desent?
@@oscara8214 at almost 6’2” the 495mm reach felt really good for me both up and down. Their previous generations were longer and I’d consider sizing down to a large on them.
What color combo is that? It looks great.
No more nomad ?
Have you heard any creaking noises related to the frame bearings? (many people complain about this problem)
@@lennytournier3095 this wasn’t an issue with any Commencal I’ve ever ridden but I don’t disagree that it did happen to a lot of folks.
Good vid. What’s your favorite bike for places like Floyd & Maryland?
Kinda depends how I want to ride. There are days I want to set land speed records and I take my rocky altitude. If I’m just messin about and want to have fun popping around I take my RAAW Jibb. Just kind of depends on the mood.
Yo Great Video I got the same bike recently and Ive been loving it ever since, i came from a Trek Slash 9.8. I feel like the Orbea jumps better, and is more agile And that the Trek is a litle more forgiving. But overall i like the Orbea more. Btw pro tip youtuber to youtuber, have good music or no music at all. Im guessing you also think the backrouns music ia kins of annoying 😅 Cheers
The Rallon is like the 2023 Altitude as far as handling and being more nimble. The 2024 Altitude is flat out Enduro race rig. Great riding. You were really ripping in the turns.
@@petedog9581 hey thanks! Yeah the altitude is a beast. I’m wondering if I have enough proper terrain to feed it and keep it happy.
@@MTBJonnie The bike will make you seek that terrain. I just bought a 2023 Instinct C30, and it is a great bike. The parts spec is meh, all Deore, The biggest surprise is the Marzocchi Z2 Bomber 150mm fork. It is stiff for a 34 mm stanchion fork. I have a 2023 Pike Select w 3 tokens w 150 mm on my older Stumpy, but I don't feel much difference. It is all about the geo. RM has it dialed. Happy trails.
How would you compare the Jibb v2 to Meta V5?
@@LukaszKubica you’ll find the bottom of the Jibbs travel much sooner. V5 feels like it has more anti squat. Jibb feels longer with long chain stays. Jibb can get going fast but so fast that you end up riding it like a bigger bike and slam the bottom of its travel.
No reason why it shouldn't perform on slow technical steep stuff. You probably just need some time to get dialed in and get used to the bike.
@@Strider362 you know I think just because it likes to get into it’s travel it can feel kind of floppy which isn’t awesome in slow steep tech. I’m sure some adjusting will happen but it’s important to note it may just not be this bikes strength.
@MTBJonnie I'm getting one in a couple weeks and will be riding lots of Vancouver North Shore which is slow steep technical riding I'll give an update on my thoughts.
@@Strider362 you know I think that bike is right at home on the high speed stuff up at Cypress by you. I rode there about a month ago and wish I had this rig with me.
My buddy has the DB kistuma air on this exact rallon and I have the dvo topaz (3) in 185x55 on my giant trance X29 (160 dvo fork & currently mullet) feels as capable as the rallon, we switch bike often I can confirm rear travel numbers from manufacturer are not the most reliable thing to shop a bike with 😅 gotta try them 😊
gotta ride or watch youtube ;)
Great video, Liked and subbed! Two quick questions: can you open your GX’s barn door with the Guiderail on (but without bikes)? Also, have you thought about upgrading to the 1up Equip-D, which is also in the $800 range?
Thanks! Yes, this one got out of the way enough for the barn door. UNLIKE my Kuat Piston which doesn't clear the barn door. I wish I'd have known that before selling the guiderail for the Kuat.
@@MTBJonnie thanks for getting back. Trying to decide between the Guiderail and 1up, as those are pretty much only ones that would allows us to open the barn door without any bikes on. May i ask why you sold the Guiderail? Was there anything you didn’t like? Thanks again for posting this vid!
@@georginachang7877 I’ve had the one up and sold it after 7 years. It still worked great and I regret selling it.
@@MTBJonnie good to know. Sounds like I’ll be getting a 1up. Thanks for the awesome reviews
Try it with a coil shock. The leverage rate is highly progressive and ramps up a bit late in the travel which magnifies the relatively lower mid-stroke support of an air spring.
@@djjohnr I may. I am really loving it at pace. I just don’t think it’s a bike for many places I ride.
@@MTBJonnie I've tested both on it (two coil shocks and an air shock); the coil shocks have a higher dynamic ride height. Worth giving it a try to see if it broadens it's operating window for you.
@@djjohnr Very good to know. Yeah I'd like to make it more accessible for sure but at the same time I really love it where it naturally shines right now.
Have ordered the m ltd wild will arrive early October can’t wait, meanwhile binge watching Orbea wild reviews. Great little review cheers from Australia 🇦🇺.
@@paultishler6013 hey thanks! Enjoy, this bike rips.
As I get older I am climbing slower and most of the front range trails have really tough climbs. I demoes an eMTB the other day and it was so much fun. They are perfect for around here for sure. No more suffering and you still get a workout.
@@Kenneth_R in some ways I swear I think it’s better for you. Easier to stay in zones 2 & 3, less cortisol spiking. I’m really really leaning into it.
I have the same exact bike, feel like the only thing that holds it back is the grip dampener. I have found that the shock bolts on the drive side have come loose a few times, have you had the same issue?
@@TheBikeBuddha haven’t had those issues on mine. Also I got a couple of top 10 results on the grip damper so no complaints there 🤣
Do you realize how much I'm waiting for the Jibb V2 review???
"All shimano brakes feel the same" - Truer words have never been spoken!
Do you prefer e-bikes to non electric?
@@maxm5466 kind of depends on my training schedule and timing. I still prefer a non electric bike 9 times out of 10 and 10 times out of 10 when descending. But damn are e-bikes fun.
Love the longhorn footage
@@edarnold99017 thanks! It’s so nice being able to go up helcher 2-3x in under 2 hours.

@@maxm5466 hey thanks!
God bless you young man. That's one of the toughest trails in Colorado. I believe. I had a hard time walking it. Try and keep the rubber down. God bless
@@johnmcguire5594 lol thanks man. Pushing 40 but still loving it. Cheers!
