Why the Sony RX10 iv is STILL the only camera most people need!!

The Sony RX10 Mkiv is a Swiss Army knife of bridge cameras that basically allows you to do things that most camera systems at 10 times the cost would be able to do for 1/10 of the price .
Round trip back to the Sony RX10 iv from Canon,Nikon,Sony and Olympus

After going through most of the interchangeable lens camera systems that were available going back to the Sony RX10 MK IV, which I’ve had about 2 1/2 years ago after looking at my favorite pictures and realizing the very little difference between the quality of the shots that I personally take and how much happier I was with that camera at the time. It’s like realizing that old girlfriend was r...

That's some good money sitting on the table. Great review Sir and hopefully I'll be able to grab one in the next few years.
They are well worth it!
Hi @Jswcat, good video, I agree and have been along a similar path gear wise! One thing - the audio wasn’t great and I couldn’t hear “on the editing side I use ????? 13. Can you (or someone else) let me know what you were saying at this point? Thanks Andrew
Sorry about that. As for editing, I use Photoshop express app on my iPad Pro.
How can I set option to delete all images on the card?
This is what works for me : 1) press the play button to bring up the photos and / or videos on the SD card. 2) press the menu button and it will automatically bring up the delete option. If there are separate days however you will have to delete each day one by one.
Also you can just format the SD card by going to the “toolbox” icon in the menu (#5) and going to the 5th page. But remember, this will delete everything without looking to see what you’re deleting.
Had mine about 5 years, just cant let it go... I have added other cameras, apsc and even full frame but nothing compares to the speed and all round useability of the rx10iv. If they ever decide to update to the mark V i would grab one in a heartbeat!
I couldn’t agree with you more as I’ve been down the same road with Sony, Nikon, Cannon and Olympus. I do now own a used Hasselblad X1Dii 50C which I love just because of the simplicity, but also it makes me more aware of what to photograph, but also to do it carefully as the camera body and or the lens has no image stabilization.
I love my Sony RX10 IV with 1 inch sensor!! Its freaking powerful!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Exactly!!😃
I sold my RX10 IV 2 years ago and bought it used again last weekend. Happier then ever 🎉😅
I can see why! It’s a great camera!
I’m using mine again thanks to you. Love your videos. Excellent
Glad you like them!
Thank you so much for this as I lovely hold my RX10 with pride. Just subscribed you are such an inspiration for me to learn photography
Welcome aboard!
I know it probably wont happen, but i wish sony updated this camera with 4k60, I love it and dont want to sell it, but i mainly record myself surfing and i find myself wanting 4k60. but man I would have to spend a lot of money for the same range on a different body.. and this Camera does everything i want except 4k60.
It’s a shame they haven’t updated the camera, I’m hoping they will come up with a successor!
Hey Jeff ! This is Luke I kitesurf in south beach , did you happen to get some good shots from this past Sunday? 10/21/24 , let me know if I can email you if so, thanks anyways !
Yes I did.
I find the RX10IV to work exactly for my needs, hobbyist/advanced amateur/paid photographer. So versatile that I sold my Nikon P900, and my Canon SX series stay in the bag, and I use it in combination with my SONY A77V. RX10IV 95% of the time.
Glad you’re able to achieve what you need with the RX10!
Great tips dude.
Glad you like them!
Great tips!! Thanks so much!!
I’m so glad you found them useful.
I have the first incarnation of the RX-10, and it is still in perfect shape. Even if its zoom is not as powerful as in the later models, it's still very handy and versatile. A big plus is the fact that you never have to remove the lens. Less chances for dust to get into the sensor, and you don't have to fumble around, trying to switch lenses. Works great with Godox TTL flashes, too As long as you are aware of its limitations, you'll be able to take great photos. RX-series cameras are the best all-around digital cameras.
I couldn’t agree more. I’m glad you like your RX 10.
Excellent video just took my RX10 iv out to play with. Thank you
I’m so glad you found it informative.
very useful thanks
Glad it was helpful!
got it thanks
how do you put the monitor to sleep after taking a shot
In the menu under tab number five, which is indicated by an icon that looks like a toolbox, go to the second page, which is Setup2, then go down to power save time, and you can set it up where it turns the power off from 10 seconds all the way up to 30 minutes with intervals in between if you want to save your battery power. To wake up the camera again just a light press on the shutter and you’re all set to go!
Watching in 2024. Very helpful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice commentary, but I'll bet most of your audience is just waiting for you to knock over that coffee cup. I know I did. You're right, the RX10 IV is a great all-round machine. It's a great addition to my event-coverage camera group. However, for portraits, I'd stick with the Z8 and an 85 1.8 lens. The eye autofocus of the Z8 is superb giving you the ability to move with your subjects.
That’s why i left it there 😜
I picked this up new a couple years ago and I would stick to this camera for the rest of my life...except now Sony is no longer going to produce it, nor come up with an updated version. They are dumping the super zoom bridge cameras. I'm sick about it. I'm getting too old to get into full frame, multi lens cameras and don't want to carry around all that gear. Stupidest move on Sony's part for sure. I sure hope mine lasts.
I hold up hope that they come up with something different as I think the segment is still needed to fill the void between smart camera phones and interchangeable lens cameras.
It's being discontinued because the RX series cameras are so good, that they are probably eating into sales of the higher-end Sony cameras AND lenses
I have sold and bought this camera 5 times lol sticking with it now takes a lot beating
Hello, for the left thumb button I use it as a quick temporary BiF mode switch as I assosiated it to a memory setting that will instantly switch to 1/1000, burst mode, full wide autofocus. This is very convenient in case I am walking around taking usual picture of country and bugs and then I see a bird (or a deer or rabbit) moving fast so I just press the button and shoot and once its done I release the button to go to normal.
That is a great place as well!
Grab one if you see one, they have just been discontinued
Just got one last month ... loving it so far ...
Is that official or still some rumors?

Hi there, thanks for the video. I'm just wondering why you would want to remove the eyepiece?
I’m OCD so I just like cleaning everything
You can remove it to clean it or easier clean the viewfinder glass, also there are some third party sellers that sells a slightly bigger eyecaps that will looks like swimming glasses to fully stick around the eye and let no light come inside (but I think it is useless if you wear glasses)
Useful Thanks for share
My pleasure
For spare batteries, Small Rig makes a battery that can be recharged with USB-C using a portable power bank. And the sweet part is that it displays the charge percentage on the camera display just like the Sony original Info Lithium battery.
Nice info!
Whether you zoom with the lever around the shutter button or the zoom ring, both are zoom by wire, ie, electronic motor. It does not have a mechanical ring. It does have a setting to make it zoom quicker. But then, for those zoom lenses for interchangeable lens cameras, there is no 24-600 zoom available. Nothing else compares to the versatility of this camera lens paired with the 1-inch type sensor.
I have set the un-zoom button as the AF-On button after a bit of trying the AE-L and some other buttons. That way, the right thumb is free to make other adjustments when shooting.
I use the AE-L button for focusing as I use back button focus and I use my left hand underneath the lens barrel and use my left thumb for that side button on the lens to as you say, unzoom it. Different strokes for different folks!
Yes it is a very sturdy friendly camera and almost always helps me to take nice pics
It sure is
You can invert the lens cap shield and screw it down so that it faces the other way / that means you don’t have to hang it in your finger
True
Am feeling silly to tell you that I was watching your video and learnt about the creative choice this camera gives which I have not noticed till now so thank you for it I feel really stupid though have had it for four years
I’m sure there’s still things that I haven’t found out, but I wouldn’t feel stupid as there’s so many things that this camera can do.
Somy is stopping manufacturing these 😢
I keep watching all the gossip websites and also the Sony webpage itself and it hasn’t gone out of stock yet so for those who still wish to buy it I would make the jump now as I don’t think they’re gonna be making an RX 10 mark five
I reckon you’ll swap back to the best camera in the world 😉
Indeed, I am back with the RX!
Great work. This camera is like a photography Swiss Army knife on steroids. I love it.
If you’ve seen my other RUclips videos, I’ve been through the major manufacturers looking for more megapixels, etc., and finally realizing that this camera is the best for me. And recently, after hearing some people saying that this summer might be the last for production, I purchased another one as a backup!
I purchased one of these about 1 year ago second hand, loved it so much went and got another one for my wife second hand. Got them both for a great price and never looked back, Been using it for wildlife and sports photography etc, it's just so much fun to use and only weights 1kg. Hope it's not the end of the line for Sony when it comes to bridge cameras because if they did release another one which was updated I'd be first in line to grab it. But I'll never end up buying a camera with interchangeable lenses as I don't wont to lug around heavy equipment when out enjoying my walk. So if Sony wants my money again which it may not but if it does then lets hope they release another bridge camera down the track.
I could not agree more. Matter fact, I just placed an order for a brand new one through B&H Photo as I am afraid the rumors may be true that they’re discontinuing the camera this summer, which is kind of right around now. I’ll keep it sealed until I really need to use it, but I really can’t find anything else that fits this terrific package and if you watched most of my videos, I’ve gone back-and-forth with interchangeable lens cameras, and always come to the realization, as you have mentioned of the weight complexity and cost of those other systems.
Absolutely agree with everything you have written. I can't handle heavy gear and do a lot of long birding hikes, but after having my RX10iv for the past few years I am spoiled by the quality. I would buy a v in a minute if they released one. I am already researching other bridge cameras to see what is out there because if Sony stops bridge camera production I am going to have to sadly change brands because mine won't last forever. I really hope other brands see the opportunity to come out with a higher end bridge camera that will appeal to our market.
I have a Sony RX10 IV camera that I bought half a year ago. Over the decades I have used several pro cameras, but I agree with you that this camera does its job. I heard rumors that Sony is going to stop production of this model completely.?
I’ve heard that also and I hope it’s not true, but if it is, I intend on buying another one just as a back up. That’s how good I think this camera is. My hope is if they do discontinue it that they replace it with something that’ll have lots of updates!
I've actually seen a couple of reviews which indicated that the 300 Pro was as sharp as, or even sharper than, the 150-400.
I definitely came to that same conclusion while also realizing money would’ve definitely be a factor.
Good vid. Got me lookin to feed my own GAS!
Sir your home is so beautiful, colourful with your pictures. This video is so timely, I am 46 yrs old physician from the southern part of India.I really want to get a camera for taking family pics, outdoor trips, nature and birds on the trees.I was searching for the best camera and i ve understood that i should look for a camera that suits my need.So I ve zeroed in on sony RX 10 mark 4.I am happy to hear from you too.How can i contact you to clear some of my doubts. Can you please share your email.
I’m not inclined to give out my email, but I will be posting a new video shortly and I can tell you that a Nikon Z8 that I purchased and sent back because I think the RX10 Mkiv for my needs is a superior camera.
@@Jswcat ok sir, thank you.
Nice to know that you finalized this camera. Hopefully, you have already purchased it. Heard that production is now stopped. I am based in Bombay and purchased this camera about 5 months ago. Spent some time customizing the control buttons and the various settings for different use-case scenarios. Will be mainly using it for wildlife and travel photography.
For the aperture don't forget that MFT to FF is also X2 so F1.8 is F3.2 equiv FF for DoF

Hi, for the battery problem Solved it with a USB Powerbank in my pocket connected to the camera and I can run a full day long so I only have one battery.
life is short, man. just get the lens. 🙂
I decided to go back to the Sony RX 10 mark four as the lens is a 24 to 600 and encompasses all my needs and you could almost buy three of them for the price of that lens!
Is that a washing machine I hear
Pacemaker
i got the OM-1 for 1450€ on the last Black Friday sales incl. an origianl extra battery. couldn't be happier!
the 20mm 1.4 i have as well! but for my zooms i go with the f4 Pro Series 8-25 and 40-150. the 2.8s are too big for me.
Yes sir, it’s a great camera
I have used them all extensively and when cropping large of at high iso Olympus isn't the equivalent of Sony or Nikon. Under ideal conditions....sure... but if the light isn't the best I can't see them being equal
You’re absolutely correct. So when you’re using that small of a sensor, you have to make sure that your composition is as close as it can get.
Enjoyed your practical analysis. I have just purchased the Sony RX 10 Mark IV, also on eBay. One question. do you shoot RAW or JPEG (specifically, with reference to the photographs you have on display)?
Most of what I shoot is in raw, but I do shoot JPEG when I want to use the effects available in the camera but also if the lighting is something I really don’t want to fool around with or edit later on. as an example this week, I shot about 5000 captures in raw and it took me roughly about five hours to edit out the ones I wanted to edit !
my 1"Canon G7x mk-2 4.2x Optical Zoom f/1.8-f/2.8 Lens · 24-100mm (35mm Equivalent) is similar and I always carry it in my pocket
