Cummins Diesel Titan XD Fuel Filter Change
This is a MAJOR maintenance Item for your Nissan Titan XD with the Cummins 5.0. The CP4 pumps in these trucks along with all the other manufactures that use them are known to fail early partially due to the low quality Diesel fuel available in the United states not having enough lubricity. If you don't change these filters often enough you can starve the CP4 pump causing it to fail. I also use fuel treatment with lubrication with every tank fill to help the pump live longer. Helps to keep the wear on the lift pump down as well.

Brake booster couldn't hold vacuum so it was time to replace it. The S14 automatic brake booster is no longer available but I was able to track down a B13 booster that was almost an exact match. These are also very close to the Z32 brake booster as they both have the dual stage boosters which I wanted to keep since the car has z32/skyline brakes on all 4 corners. I'm dreading doing this on my jdm FD but after watching this I feel a little better about it. Thanks for doing this!
Great video! I have an rx7 heading to me soon, it’s shipping over. It has this kit fitted! So really cool to see this.
Nice. I see more and more of these things being imported
great instructions!!
Cool video, more than likely convinced me to grab one for my own car.
do you need a tune after the install?
@yapoka1 no. The main thing to worry about when modifying an FD with bolt ons that will cause you to need a tune is opening up the exhaust. If you install a high flow cat, you risk the chance of boost creep and overboosting what the stock computer was tuned for. I will be demonstrating this in future dyno videos as I keep acquiring the parts
@@touchedbyawankel thanks.. btw what do you think of u type intercoolers? Like pwr or knights sport u type intercoolers. I think they are very interesting and there are not many reviews about them on the internet.
@yapoka1 i love them. I'm planning on getting the Aussie pwr one down the road with the knightsports as a backup since I'm planning on staying with a SMIC.
@@touchedbyawankel Nice! Looking forward to see you post a video about this!
where did you get the shifter booth?
@yapoka1 one of the members on rx7club.com. I believe he can have more made. They are great quality and I couldn't be happier with it. You can send me a message on Instagram and I can give you his name on the forum if you are interested. I got the ebrake handle and shift knob from him as well so all the stitching matches
What's it like to drive right hand drive? Come to South Africa. It's all you gonna get (mostly). cool thing is it's easy to get Japanese imports here. They fit RIIIIGHT in. Provided you can afford to import and have the paperwork ready. You can drive it right out of the docks.
Australia is better
Thanks for this video. It clears up some of the stuff that is hard to find or hard to see due to dead pics on old forum posts, such as how you remove the whole rack. I unfortunately already did all of my rats nest lines (aside from the one that goes under the rack) with the rack installed but I found out I'm going to have to go back in there to replace my FPD and inj. o-rings as preventative maintenance since all of that is original on my '93. I really wish Mazda part numbers gave a clue of o-ring size like they do crush washer size, it would make sourcing the o-rings for sane prices much easier. Crush washer PNs are something like 9956-41-400 where -41-400 is what you need -4 is the material (-4 AL, -2 CU), 1-400 is 14mm ID. If only NF01-13-ZG3/4 meant something useful!
This was my motivation for starting to make videos. I'm old school and lived off forums in the past. We lost so much when photobucket and other hosting platforms changed their hosting plans. These newer generations don't usually take the time to join or search the forums so I hope these videos help the newer RX7 community. More often than not, I hear about people ditching the sequential setup because of it's "complexity" but it really comes down to people being afraid to learn the system. Most people I know that have driven a properly operating sequential system love it and would keep it if they realized its really not that hard to work on.
Dead set Legend - :) My FD has 24 years on it and 90,000km, and love to do work myself -when time allows! Your video is huge help to community. Thank you!.. Ill probably purchase all the parts you outline, so can tackle this job in next 5 years.
Great to hear. If you have the funds now, you can save a bit ordering from Japan because of the dollar to Yen values right now. I would definitely keep an eye on that FPD in the meantime as they are prone to leaking. Take any hint of fuel smell very seriously.
@@touchedbyawankel where do you order your OEM parts from?
@Hazel-wj9fw RHDJapan is where I get most of my parts. Nengun sometimes as well. For OEM parts they can't get i usually get from a local dealership or Ray Crowe
@@touchedbyawankel Thanks a lot for letting me know, now i may have missed something because i don't remember you directly addressing it but is it relatively the same process for the emission's side of the rats nest for repair? I know the main bottom part of the rats nest (A through G on diagram) is mostly the turbo but I guess I wish you went a bit more in depth about the emissions side of things because where I am i still need to pass smog. did i miss it maybe?
@@Hazel-wj9fw The only difference in the rats nets with an emissions car vs the JDM is the EGR solenoid. If you go to 16:12 in the video, the print out I have is for an emissions car and solenoid "D" is for the EGR. So you would just need to replace that solenoid and the associated vacuum hoses. Very little extra work for an emissions vehicle.
I completely agree about right-hand turns and passing on one-lane roads-that’s my biggest issue with driving my FD. Other than that, though, it’s absolutely amazing.
another great video with good points about driving on the right side. Love that engine noise!!!
I’m definitely in the wrong area! Carolinas don’t have anything going on like this!🤘🏻
Is that a Cedric parked next to FD?
@@HuyNguyen-bq3du i believe it was a Toyota Century. Super nice guy, I've met him at a Couple shows
Cool video! Very informative. Thank you for the mention.
With the AutoEXE Intake, Is there any way to increase efficiency with the 92-98 front bumper?
I was wondering this as well
@christiangarcia1668 update to the 99 spec bumper setup, it's all bolt on but getting expensive to source the parts these days. IMO it's not worth it because if you run a front plate it won't give that "ram air" effect advertised. You can always custom make your own splitter to direct air up that direction but then you may be robbing the Radiator etc. From some of the air flow. This still pulls air from the same location as 99+ cars so if you run a front plate, it's just as good in the older models. Airflow over the intercooler will be more beneficial than more to the intake I believe.
Not a truck!!!..🤨
😭
😂😂😂😂😂😂 exactly

I appreciate this video. I'm also doing an OEM++ build on my 97 RS-R. Which year is yours? It is my understanding that starting in 96, Mazda switched to using a single 'vacuum unit'.
@NicholasArvelo mine is a 94. Those vacuum "black boxes" are essentially closed versions of the older setups. You can still rebuild those with new solenoids just like the older ones. They still operate the same was as the open vacuum systems
I’m the same 😂
WTf is this lol😅
very informative, ill take a set of those cf pipes when you make them
damn 5 days ago, perfect timing! literally 2 weekends ago i found out my brake booster went out when i was at a drift event lol…. had to use the handbrake all day, no damn foot brake!!
Great video, Makes this daunting job look at more manageable after seeing how it all comes appart.
It can be very intimidating with all the parts involved but as long as you can be patient and take your time, its really not that bad. I come from a time when we had to work on the early and mid 80's smog cars so the rats nest is a piece of cake compared to some of those systems.
@@touchedbyawankel its the #1 thing that scares me working on this car, FD is my all time dream car ever since i was little, I want to work on as much of the car as I can but this is the one thing that super scary to me. I've just never seen anything like that. Miata's and 4AGE's are way more easy to work on. Even watching an FC NA get taken apart was simple. You can get rid of almost all of this if you go single turbo if i remember properly. But if you live in an Area that is strict on emission like California, New York, or most major cities (both portland's is one i know) its just not possible
Neat! I'd love to get the same intake for my Efini. Also, regarding microphone setup. You can get wireless mics from Godox (Magic XT-1) for around 100 bucks. There are two in set and are magnetic so you can just stick one in the engine bay and keep the other one inside. You can even plug them into a Phone if that's what you record with.
Thanks for that info, I'll be looking into that. I've been trying to figure out way to make my audio better in the videos. The MIC I have leaves a lot to be desired so this is great information. In the car, I use a inta360 camera
Oh man! I just missed the colored HKS mats for mine. I’m still looking for someone selling a LHD set.
Contact @FullDetailAutomotive I believe he has some in stock still. That is the shop from my Dyno video
Would you say this is the best intake, as far as performance, for an fd with stock twins?
I wouldn't say this exact intake but definitely this "type" as in having an enclosed system to fresh air vs having two open filters in the engine bay taking in hot air. AutoEXE, KnightSports, Mazdaspeed type cool air intakes like this I would consider the best, they all flow nearly the same but the key is cool air. I go over these benefits in the video
The dei gold foil actually works pretty well apparently. The baking action from the radiator fans on the bottom of the intake could be mitigated with it. Although..... the air is probably moving fast enough through that where it won't matter
The gold stuff works great, I would use it on aluminum components but like you mentioned, I don't think its needed on the carbon because of the velocity of the air like you mentioned. Still not a bad idea to go overkill with heat mitigation, I just don't want the gold in my engine bay if I can help it. Trying to keep the OEM+ look. The 240 on the other had really needs some better heat management which I'll be addressing int he future
My gawd, thank you so much for making these!
Looks good! Mine came re-powder coated but the shop coated over the RX7 logo. 🤦🏻♂️ My ocd will give in to get that redone soon.
@arthurdouglass4672 that would drive me crazy too. Luckily only my size brackets needed to be done
Thank you for making these! I have the same intake and it came with my car. Good to see all the things you did to tinker with it. Keep it up!
good info, i've been considering one of these
Keep it up. I'm still watching.
I'm honestly surprised a shop that deals with FDs so much doesn't have a better fan setup to try and approximate real world conditions. That fan is probably providing less air flow than driving along at 30mph.
That is on my list for the next sessions. Already have a friend that offered to send me with a high volume unit that should work.
@F1aficionado that's my plan when I upgrade the SMIC, I don't want to spend the time and money to do it to the stock one if it's getting replaced
@@F1aficionado Convoluted? No difference? I'm guessing you've never seen it out of the car, it is a very simple "s-duct" It's a fairly well designed duct given the space constraints of the early design. It looks a lot like what we see in aerospace, or what you will see in motorsport. Honestly, the biggest issue is the airbox sharing an intake with the intercooler. The 99+ revision gives the ducting more space and another air intake for the actual inlet so it isn't pulling air that could go through the intercooler. With the stock early design especially, air speed makes ALL the difference, not no difference as you claim. The duct is placed in a high pressure area and the underside of the car is a low pressure area thanks to the under tray but you need air speed for a pressure differential. By using a big low velocity fan that is woefully inadequate to represent road conditions, you give the ducting zero chance of doing its job. RX7s weren't designed for drag racing or dyno pulls, they need to be moving forward for the engine or charge cooling to work at all.
the stand up fan was readily accessible. we have "turbo" fans that we use for tuning sessions. this was just a couple pulls.
So my estimation wasn't far off on Reddit
Sounds great stock!
Agreed, these sound very good in stock form. I almost like it better than the APEXi but I do like the lower tone as well. Either way, you can't go wrong. I plan on getting something similar in the future so the sound shouldn't change much until I add a high flow cat
Nice, excited to see this series. Bought my FD about 2 years ago and have some videos going through it, but can't ever get anything edited. Maybe when I retire.
I know how that is. It takes me a while to edit because I work a lot with my day job and I'm still learning the filming/editing aspect trying to get better with every video. Hard to do unless you spend $$$ on some nice wireless mics and other equipment but I make due with what I have. Money goes to car parts first
How much did the FD cost you? Really looking into buying one
@@VuBeClan 2 years ago it was a little over $24K. Not sure what the Market looks like over there now as I haven't been watching since I purchased this one
Let's go.
Thanks for the mention! One thing to note, we are unable to take it for a ride or put it on a lift 95% of the time. Getting under the car properly we can do but some dealers will play ball and some say straight up no claim no return because at the end of the day they know the car will sell.
Thanks for that info. I've seen a few videos where drives have been taken and I totally understand some sellers not willing to allow test drive. I would have a hard time letting somebody test drive a car of these types without cash in hand deposit.
As much as I would luv to own a 3rd Gen, if I went the route of importing from Japan i would probably go for a GTR since they were not available during this era in the USA unlike the FD RX7 which were sold here. Still great vid, great car and solid advice!
*You could go a different route...* I imported mine from Canada. It was a whole lot easier.
@Psyrecx the importing wasn't difficult. I did browse Canadian ads a lot when I was looking, but the selection wasn't the greatest. I was also able to take advantage of the low Yen to Dollar ratio and save thousands but purchasing from Japan
@@touchedbyawankel Yeah, the exchange rate is currently excellent.
solid advice and i wish i had gone this route with my miata
Great content as always!
Id replace those lines if i were you, although theyre brown and miller chase bays assembles them and boy do they suck at it
That is the plan in the near future, I had a couple leakers to begin with and they had no issue replacing those but I will be installing a cooler so all the lines will need to be replaced which will be built by me since I have to make them custom length for where I want to install the cooler and run the lines
gorgeous!!🤩
a clean s14 getting the proper care it deserves! ❤❤
Hey what’s up, were did you get all your parts from? Thanks in advance.
Most of the parts were sourced from RHDJapan while there were a couple items like bulk fuel line and clamps and such that I got locally.
