Hello! Have you seen the new Yamaha 321/322B/323/324B Series? I do not know if it have any structural difference in comparison to the now discontinued 312/314 Series. But the new finish seens to be flawless. Very beautiful and realistic (rosewod or granadilla).

I think the Moeck Rottenburgh is one of the best recorders of the 20th century, especially the alto version. What I like about this recorder is its playability and responsiveness. You can tell the first Rottenburgh was designed by someone who was actively involved in the rediscovery and promotion of the recorder and knew what a recorder needs so it is suitable for ambitious amateurs and even pros. It definitely underwent changes. Hermann Moeck obtained a few patents for additional features. My ebony Rottenburgh has a piece of ceramic (?) attached the the block and an additional layer of wood between the block and the rest of the headjoint. Those features were supposed to make the recorder's intonation more long-lived. It cannot have been a bad reputation because the recorder, purchased in 1976, is still absolutely playable. I have another Rottenburgh as well, a maple one. Yup, I have both the least and most expensive one from their line of Rottenburgh altos. The maple recorder is from roughly 1990, and, surprisingly, the windway bears more similarities to what is currently en vogue. The 1970s Rottenburgh has a (slightly) curved windway and the width at the tip is a little less than the one of the newer Rottenburgh, which has a straight windway. As did most 20th century recorders, actually. The "new" recorders were modeled after organ pipes, and they have a straight windway. People like Jacob, Ruetz and Gofferje didn't invent the straight windway, though -- many surviving baroque instruments have one. Nowadays, curved has become the norm, even with recorders for beginners.

The Music Garden and the Zen on Bressan are my favorite plastic altos. The Haka is a close second.

You play very well on them. The Recorder is a very underrated instrument. People who dont know music hostory would class them as toys they go back to middle ages to Reanissance to baroque /early classical times.

6:47 made my day……I chose this as my first Proper piece to learn. 6 month in, I Can play it all, in bits. but never made it through perfectly yet, always get one note wrong. I feel just a bit less subhuman now ……thanks for leaving it in ;) of course I’ve been practicing it solid not sight reading so it’s not much of a comparrison. But……just……..let me have this 😢😂 Actually in performance I think it’s nice to see a mistake or two in a concert. Maybe that goes more for modern music, but first it shows it’s definitely live, and second, the musician is operating close to the edge of their envelope, so maybe playing spontaneously. I think live music can be too perfect. It’s a high bar to pass to get there, but it does exist. ;)

Well this was helpful 😃👍 i was interested in the Kung tenor but this is my first serious tune as a beginner player. 6 or so months in and still not quite up to tempo with this on. but this helped me, to spot one or two bits that I’m not getting quite right. So all in all, the EXACTLY perfect review for me to stumble on. (Really enjoy all your videos though anyway). Thank you!

Beginner, with my new Yamaha YRA302B, love it but am starting to experience the clogging with my practice sessions getting longer. A thought... for those who like the Yamaha plastic, perhaps buy another identical instrument (as they're so cheap) so when one clogs just go straight to the other. Or perhaps better, I should get an Aulos to experience the two different instruments.

I don’t like the Thomann chalumeau. It’s nice to try out but it is so heavy to blow. I suspect it shouldn’t be since a clarinet is not like this.
