head studs shouldn't be wound right in, metal expansion will see the threads pull over time. i always back them out about 1/4 turn and loctite them in.

It will need to have some body work done to it as far as surface rust goes !

Great work mate good to see it’s running again and not bent valves like first thought👌, with your low idle and how your still using the factory idle control solenoid on the back on the intake I believe there should be a air bypass screw that you use to adjust idle eg pull the electronic plug screw it in or out till it idles about 50rpm low I think like 650 then plug it back in and it should idle about 700 instead adjusting the throttle blade

I’d forgotten just how smooth and cool those rb’s were, I was a mechanic when they were fairly new, and they got replaced by the pile of shyte mangs which was unfathonable at the time. The T shirts looks spot on even tho you didn’t take up the “twin cam” suggestion. 😂. If you get big size T’s done I’m in for sure. You’d have to be happy with the way it started and run, it sounds sweet as.

Might want to change the engine oil Jrad, probably some fine camshaft metal in it now, risk opening up the oil pump clearances otherwise

Finally I see someone else use the rope trick for doing valve springs! Works great and no f$&king around with spark plug fitting for compressed air. I had the same idea after using the chainsaw’s pull cord to stop the crank turning over while tightening the clutch assembly. Oh yeah, homemade spring compressor for the win also. Love ya work-liked, subscribed and rang the bell!

The rb30 is an interference engine so you escaping without valve damage is a miracle
