I'm Martin O'Leary, a hobbyist woodworker. My goal is to grow my skill and complete interesting projects. It can be frustrating to have many failures on the way to a success, but isn't success built on failure? Looking forward to more complexity and new projects in the future.
3D Printed Arthas Statue
I recently purchased a Bambu P1S 3d Printer. The next step is searching for fun projects to make. I discovered this on Thingiverse and it brought me back to the days of building airplane models as a 7th grader.
www.thingiverse.com/thing:4409304
I enjoy playing World of Warcraft and finding the model of the "hero" Arthas was a good find. I'm fairly new to 3d printing and just used a plain PLA typ filler. The color didn't matter much, as I knew I would spend a lot of time painting it.
I bought acrylic paint from a nearby Michaels craft store. Part of the fun was choosing the colors and using the pictures of others that completed this model on Thingiverse as a guide.

Bowl from a Maple Burl
Просмотров 193 месяца назад
My friend gave me an off cut of a piece of maple and I thought it would make a nice looking bowl. I've watched hours of Tamislav Tomasic Woodturning and find my skills improving. I'm not happy with how the beeswax cakes in cracks but this was the first time I ever used it. Tamislav's Channel ruclips.net/video/ulaekDRFQW4/видео.htmlsi=aSz_ww6f75eTuEk2
Michigan Shadow Box v2
Просмотров 733 месяца назад
In looking for creative ideas for my CNC, a friend mentioned making a box in the shape of the State of lower Michigan, that could contain rocks specific to the state's area. I set off to make this shadow box and I'm delighted with how it turned out. The learnings from the project relate to the epoxy seeping through the walls of the box, which lead me to use epoxy as the outer finish. But all in...
Live Edge Sign on the CNC
Просмотров 304 месяца назад
I made these signs for a friend on my 30" LongMill MK1. A fun project but that came with some lessons learned: 1. The problems I experienced with the initial epoxy pour where my own fault at not mixing the correct hardener ratio. Clearing out this mistake once will be a lifetime long lesson 2. Using the ¼" upcut bit was not correct. It left lots of sanding to be completed from bit trails that w...
Lathe Tool Rack
Просмотров 2637 месяцев назад
As well as any other tool in the wood shop, a lathe leads you to many new tools. This is great until you have more than about three and need a place to set them so you can pick the right tool, that you need, every time. This is my original design based on inspiration from @torbjornahman and @BlackLabelwoodworks Thank you both for the good ideas. To cover up the plywood, I used an oak veneer. I ...
Grand Canyon Custom Picture Frame
Просмотров 538 месяцев назад
I needed a special frame for this picture I took of the Grand Canyon. I had never used a 1.25" round over bit in my router before, but I knew it would make for an awesome curve to a frame. With a custom walnut edging, I had everything I needed to make it a special frame.
The Grand Canyon a CNC Terrain Map

This was my v3 of this project on my Sienci Labs Longmill MK1 CNC. I still cut through one of the brackets. But over all it turned out great. This is part of a set where I include a picture that I took standing at Lipan Point of this exact terrain. Steve Potter gives a very complete introduction into how to carve terrain models with the use of the TouchTerrain website. He also provides excellen...
Guide Rail Failure on Longmill MK1 CNC
Просмотров 158 месяцев назад
This is the adventure I went on to figure out why my Longmill CNC was drilling too deep on my project and moving the wood base around. I heard grinding when that gantry moved and that combined with the problems it was having cutting at the correct Z depth should have clued me in that the problem was with the bearing guides. I am thoroughly enjoying my Longmill CNC and I'm grateful I figured out...
Backgammon Box with Inlays
Просмотров 1378 месяцев назад
After working to build my backgammon board, I needed something beautiful to hold the dice and the board pieces. I designed this inlay for the top and went after it with gusto. Made lots of mistakes but learned the whole way. I'm very happy with how it turned out. It is definitely a custom box worthy of my custom board.

Removing the Harbor Freight Impeller from the Dust Collection System.
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.11 месяцев назад
I've watched many videos on upgrading the Harbor Freight Dust Collection system. I purchased the Central Machinery 35 Gallon, 2 HP High-Flow High-Capacity Dust Collector from Harbor Freight for $239. I wanted to understand if the fins on the new Wen 3403-022 Turbo Fan, facing a different direction than the original fins, were a better or worse design. I found this video on RUclips by Mathias Wa...
Making a Backgammon Board and Pieces
Просмотров 75111 месяцев назад
In this project I used Oak, Walnut and Heartwood to make the board. Oak and Walnut for the pieces. The hardest part of the project was making the jig to cut the correctly. Many failed attempts here. But in the end, I love how the heartwood works with the other wood. A very satisfying project which has given me a piece of art for my home. The pieces were my first project on my new cnc, a used Lo...
Turning a Block into an Oval
Просмотров 34Год назад
I'm building a bedside table and wanted to make supports in the shape of an oval. The only problem was that I had no idea how to accomplish this. How do you turn a block into an oval? After many videos I felt the best way to proceed was a block plan. I have limited experience with this tool, but was so happy with the result that i wanted to share it before my project was complete.
Grand View Point Moab Utah Terrain Map with a CNC

I have a Genmitsu 3020 and this is my 3rd Terrain Map. Once you discover the website touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu/ you will unleash the fun of finding your coolest vacation spots and carving them out on your CNC. I decided that I like the way the terrain looks scaled and found a scaling factor of 1.5 to do the trick. This made this location have more enjoyable highs and deeper lows! What a gre...
Blast Gate Improvements V3
Просмотров 80Год назад
In this video, I make improvements to my dust collection system by making some well needed changes. The lights were dim, so I added a resistor with less resistance, The switches worked intermittently, because they would become clogged with dust or were to sensitive to the location of the hole they would roll into to activate. I realized that a much simpler method would be to use the handle of t...

Making a Wooden Box for my Chess Pieces
Looks great!
What model table saw is this
Looks great! Fun to watch you carve out the inside
Gorgeous! I love how the texture on the rocks became more clear as you poured the epoxy!
That’s weird because mine was easy to remove without any puller. Just came off with no struggle at all. I was watching another video with the same model and he need a puller to remove impeller. Also on my dust collector, the channel key is non removal like i see on other videos. I assume not all HF 2 HP is built the same. I just hope the WEN impeller i just purchased will fit.
If only it was that easy. I chipped to the flange with the 2 prong puller, got a 3 prong , chipped again, tried the puller in your video and it bent. I then tried big puller that I attempted to pull from the body of the impeller, no luck. Next up ever more PB blaster and some heat.
Sounds like a learning experience. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Good luck getting it off!
I am sure there is a learning curve on this just like anything else. Watching the video there seems to be alot of flex/movement in your drill press set up. Something is a little wonky when the joints and shoulders dont fit tight and square. I just received my $100 3/4" hollow chisel mortising chisel and bit and will be making some test holes in a few minutes. As already stated some paste or beeswax will certainly help with reducing friction between the chisel and work piece. Thank you forthe tips! Keep on making chips.
Agreed. I will like to make a much more rigid bed with auto raise/lower!
If you use just a dab of paste wax on the chisel part, it releases better....lesson learned the hard way...
Still looks warped, js
It was. But improved was the goal and it turned out fi e in the final project.
Real nice!

Hi- nice vid my friend, could I ask what the fuctionality is for nules you counter bored in with the forstener bit are? After showing the precision cutting, you negated to show the function which no doubt is important (& also demeans your good work sir)
The instructions told me to put the countersunk sleeves on the inside of the table side of the vice. My mistake was to put the on the inside of the outside part of the vise. I am not sure exactly what function they provide but I imagine that they help by acting like a guide for the rail no matter what side they are on!
Freakin' awesome dude!! Absolutely love the music in the video too.
Good learnings!
Amazing work! 👏 Love the originality - just oozes with character. Look forward to seeing it in person soon. BTW - the music choice was perfect!
Love it!
Beautiful!
I’m new to woodworking and just curious why everyone seems to make sleds out of 3/4” instead of 1/2”? I have only 1/2” plywood.
It does seem logical to use a thinner board for a sled. The main reason would be screw length. You will need to screw your guide strip to the bottom. Also I find occasions where I screw clamps or other boards down to the surface of the sled. With a half inch sled there is not a lot of wood to grab onto. But if that is all you have you could epoxy the guide to the bottom and it might work.
I'll be buying the exact same vise next week. Your video gave me a good idea what to expect. Also, maybe you can answer this msg in time to mention some tips, or things you would've done differenty? Thank you!
Things I would do differently: Is the faceplate as a guide to trace your holes onto the wood. I made the mistake of drilling the center hole too small. Also my vise plates are too skinny. The thicker the better perhaps more like two inches thick. I drilled a bench dog hole in the outer and ripped it right off the outer vise! And like I mentioned in the video the guides were supposed to go on the inside! Good luck
Beautiful work!
Looking great! The dark wood strips, are those black walnut?
Thanks! I used Oak, Walnut and Heartwood!
Great work! It’s beautiful!
Hey there... i'm doing a few terrains myself on an xcarve. How do you " zero it to the bed..."?
I use the probe that came with my cnc. But you don't have to use a probe. Another method would be to use the paper method, where you slowly lower the bit down, decreasing the step size, until trap the paper to the surface you are zeroing to. Then reset the zero height for "Z" and then you have a zero'd surface to the bed, or bottom of your work piece.
You just need to make sure that you set up your model to use the bed as the Z=0 or it won't work.
I know My job site saw said not to use an 8" dado set. Max size 6" so I ordered the 6" made my sled and it was to small. I just didn't think of it being newer to woodworking.
Thanks for the comment. I believe I have a similar recommendation from my job site table saw manufacturer. It takes more power initially to turn the wider blade. Fortunately, I have never blown a breaker with it. I still use my 6" set when I don't need the cross cut sled. After all, I've already purchased it and Stumpy Nubbs recommended a great brand. I would have appreciated fully understanding why a 6" might not work out though.
Love the music
This is not the place for music. When you are showing how to do something talk.
Thank you for letting us have part in yoru experience. I like your narration a lot! Not this polished "lock at what crazy project i did in no time with no hurdles" videos that have become so normal on youtube. But just the real experience.. with actual problems and learnings :D Thy :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've been waiting for a fresh MO Builds upload. Awesome result, looking forward to seeing this in person!
Wouldn’t half inch bottom piece for the sled be enough to remedy this problem? The only reason I can see to use a 6 inch stack is because it’s a relatively underpowered saw. It cuts deep enough for most cases, and it’s less wear on the saw
Agreed. 1/2" would have given me a bit more depth on top of the sled, but when I make finger joints, I'm usually needing more than 1/2".
Need more steps and instructions on what you're doing... I feel like I'm missing a lot from this video.
What makes this install unique, is that it is installed on a hinged lid above my planer. So I build a 3 plywood deep pedestal to support the screws that would have a good length to hold the vise. Here are the steps: 1. Turn the table over to install the support block to the underside. 2. Find the position for the support block by placing the inside of the jaw (oak planks) and cut out a place for the jaw to set. This will be the inside jaw of the vise. 3. Cut out the location that the inside jaw will be located at and will be screwed to the support block. 4. Since the shafts of the vice pass through both side of the vise jaws, you will need to find the position of these holes (one way would be to hold the outer bracket up to the outer vise jaw and trace the location of the holes). Make sure you use the correct diameter for the shafts, as they will need to slide through these holes freely. This is where I made a mistake and underestimate the diameter of the threaded shaft, as well as being off on the positioning. I leave this in the video so you won't make the same mistake. 5. The 2 inch forstner bit is to create a recessed hole for the shaft guides, which should go on the INSIDE JAW. This was another mistake I made as I put them on the outside jaw. 6. Once the holes can receive the vise shafts, assemble the vice. In my case, it was beneficial because the vice could be installed upside down, with easy access to the screw holes. I screw the plywood pedestal to the plywood lid and screw the vise support bracket to the plywood pedestal. 7. I turn the lid over, with the now installed vice reinstall the hinges so I can open it to use my planer when I need it.
Beautiful Work! I like the little hand support you used with the bandsaw!
Wow that is beautiful.
Beyond speechless! True craftsmanship is on display here!! 👏👏👏
Such a time investment for so many beautiful pieces! They turned out gorgeous!
*Don't Use a Cross Cut Sled* 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♀️🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♀️
What should he be using?
LOL, every tool has a place. The point of this video is as a newbie, I couldn't for see that I would want to use a cross cut sled, which I now use a lot with my 8" dado set.
I think stumpy nums point about the 6in was the hp of the tablesaw motor. How did your table saw handle the larger dados? I'm looking at the same thing and have a similar contractor saw
Agreed. It was my inexperience that missed the point of his comment. If you need to use a cross cut sled the 6" dado won't be high enough. I bought an 8" set from Amazon and it works great with the crosscut sled. The horsepower of my small dewalt table saw handles it fine. It enabled me to make the drawers I needed.
This is amazing
Love that work table, the joint on the frame is great
Nice video, thanks for the information and also for listing your sources. You did a great job with the notes section. I wish more folks were this thorough. Also, dog spotted at 2:40 LOL.
Thanks George! It's funny, I found the right video to watch from Stumpy Nubs, but I didn't have the experience to understand that eventually I would want to use a cross-cut sled with it. Stumpy lists all the benefits of a 6" set but until you realize that you can't cut box joints, which is probably the thing I will do the most, and so now I have two dado sets. LOL
If I only had the time! Nice work.
Thank you. It has been really fun to find ways to improve the bench!
Wow big difference between the before and after! Very cool to see the board change bit by bit!
Complimenti bellissimo banco ,si puo dire una falegnameria a portata di mano .Complimenti
Thank you! Now I just need to growing and learning.
Can you give me a job please
Bravo! this is exactly what I was looking for! like and subscribe
Thanks Nikolay. It has been a great journey.
Very cool!
Love the music and narration. You’re getting good at making these videos!
That is epic! Awesome work!
Big thumbs up.. nicely done..
Thanks!
That's impressive sir. I am planing to build a bench that goes against a wall in my garage that incorporates all those tool and a couple others. My idea is to be able to use the bench as an out feed table for each tool. I looked around a lot and haven't really seen anyone incorporating so many tools like you have done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I recently bought a roller stand to help with the in feed of the table saw and the out feed of the planer.
Gah damn! -U10
creative, God Bless!
