Trish’s Orchid Life
США
Добавлен 14 сен 2014
I love orchids and other house plants. I will be focusing mostly on orchids as that is my bigger obsession but occasionally throw in a video of a house plant or two, or three...... I am not an expert and have much to learn but hopefully we can help one another become better plant parents and make new friendships along the way.

Thank you all for your support and understanding while I take some time to make sure that Winter is comfortable during this final stage in her very long (she is 13) life. ICPU ORCHID UPDATE: JUNE 2024 Since I was not as smart as I thought using colored stickers for the ICPU deliveries, I am doing an update on all the ICPU orchids that are still with us. Some have been in the ICPU (Intensive Care Plant Unit) for over a year. That said, as long as they are trying, I will continue to look after them and eventually they will be moved to a room of their own :) Please...

Great video 🎉
Hi Trish🌸. What do you use to wipe the dust off your orchid leaves?
I do one of two things alternating between the two. One is a mixture of dish soap (1-2 drops), 70% isopropyl alcohol (pour it in the water to the count of 8-10) into warm water. I know very scientifically speaking here huh? 😂😂 The other is using insecticidal soap following the manufacturer directions. I am trying to get back into the habit of washing the leaves at each watering as I did when my collection was a bit smaller. So far not very successful with this but over time I think I will be doing it. 🌸
@@TrishsOrchidLife thank you so much. Love your scientific method!😂😂😂
@pauladixon-williams3246 😂❤️😂🌸
Hi Trish. I’m so sorry about your dear fur baby, I know how hard it can be ❤. Will be thinking of you. On a better note, your cabinets look great! Although setting up the lights will be so much fun, all the cords 🤪. And it looks like most of your plants have survived, yay! Will look forward to your next vid. Take care, Trish ❤
Appreciate you ❤️🌸
Hi Trish! I forgot to ask you…….did you feature your Hoya Kerrii? I have had my first Hoya for about six months. It’s all green and alive but sitting there with no growth or anything. I did purchase one with a vine, not a single leaf. Please don’t tell me I have another stubborn orchid? 🤣. Hope your day is going well……
@bebe9052 I too have this experience. I have the green and variegated. Both have several leaves (except the two that broke off and were placed alone 😂). From what I understand they can take a bit of time to acclimate before they “take off”. I have had the green one four about 4 months and the variegated maybe a month.
I'm glad you are back. I'm so sorry about your dog. Your new setup looks good. You will get it to wear you want it in time.
Thank you Lisa. I have already moved things around and then back 😂😂😂
Sorry to hear your loss. Hope you had a great birthday and your living room is looking great.❤❤
Thank you 🙏 Andrea ❤️🌸 Hope you are doing well too 😊🌸
@@TrishsOrchidLife doing okay thank you
Good to see you back. I hope that your liodoro pulls through. Mine has improved since I started adding sea kelp to my feed.
If she grows roots I will take that advice and add as well. For now we wait for roots 🤞
Oh Trish, love your new setup in progress, your house plant Aroids and Hoyas are all beautiful. Really nice birthday gifts! You are really going to enjoy those IKEA cabinets🩷👍🍃 Ty for sharing.
Thank you Anita. Not sure what I am going to do with the Milsbos yet… but I am sure over time I will figure it out 😂😂😂 I was not expecting to get them both at the same time so kinda unprepared 🤔🌸
@@TrishsOrchidLife I added Barrina lights and I use USB fans, have orchids and a few Hoyas in mine, yes you will be adding and changing things around a lot, I love mine! Congrats it’s a great gift! Enjoy! Have fun!
You can never have too many bellina!
I now agree with that statement 😊🌸
I scored 5 pulchra mounted on a board at a yard sale for $20!!!
Wow! That was a score!!!
I need ALL of the info on how you are succeeding with the japonica. It’s top wish list but I have killed 2 so far. One in bark moss mix and one in bark/perlite/ charcoal. Thought I over watered the first and might have under watered the second. I don’t know what’s going on
I have lost my japonica 😣and it is for such a rookie mistake… I got water in the crown. I had a mount on top and I must not have let it drain enough. I will be replacing though. Until the my “secret” if you will, is I let her dry almost completely before watering. Feritilized once a month at about 250-300ppm MSU and CalMag once a month at 150ppm. Lower light than I thought she would need produced the best growth. Heavy bark with moss only under top layer. I hope this makes sense, if not let me know 🌸
Oh. Yea Nicole Deanna how lucky...good wishes..
Hi Trish! Orchids looking back to your normal, yay! I hardly ever get mealies but my sister gets them all the time. We live in different parts of California. Your thoughts on they are attracted to “yellow” is interesting. It must be very annoying, have you tried a systemic? Glad to see your posting vids. Good to see you. Take care…..
Happy Monday Bebe! I have not used systematic yet, but I may need to go that route … suggestions?
Hi Trish! Have you tried neem oil? I’ve been using Bonide Bon-Neem, fungicide, miticide and insecticide. I have some issues with fungus so it’s a good all around for me. Neem oil leaves a light film upon drying which might deter your mealies. It also has pyrethrins. I use a wide blush brush and apply it from a jar, like you do with alcohol. It dries pretty quick if you have a bit of air flow. No stem or crown rot ever. Bayer Bio Abvanced 3 in 1 is a systemic. It gets taken up by roots and folar. A orchid group I joined swears by it. I sprayed it on my experimental phal and most of the roots died, leaves were fine. I sprayed the roots because it had a bit of mold……not anymore 😂. Maybe just wiping leaves will do it, wear gloves. Another systemic is Bonide Systemic House Plant granules. You’re supposed to apply it to soil, but I have seen write ups on dissolving 3 tablespoons in one gallon. Use as a quick drench. No, haven’t tried this one yet. If you haven’t tried any type of neem oil, go for that first. I know it smells not so nice, but it goes away after drying. If that doesn’t work , go in with bigger stuff…lol. You poor thing, must be awful looking all the time. They need to go away. What do you think?
Live all the e suggestions and will try neem first (with a mask as I do have a sensitive nose that smells more than it should! 😂😂) and move on from there. Just repotted the phaph last night and ended up throwing out 3 fans due to the infestation in there.
Hi Trish! Hope you are having a good week. I’m sorry to bother you but you are the Phal Queen. I have a Phalaenopsis Bellina Fma Coerulea for 3 years now. It still has the same two leaves, roots are so so. Whenever it starts to grow a new root, it aborts at about half an inch. I changed the medium to RePotMe Phal with a little sphag a year ago. I know some of the old roots must be dead in there. It’s on a heated mat with 55% humidity, obviously warm to about 75 to max 80 degrees during the day. Down to 72 at night. What should I do? It’s literally been sitting there for years. Thank you!
@bebe9052 gurl! Mine did the same until this year. Mine is not as pampered as yours ( she would be jealous if she knew 😂 ). I have mine is bark/moss/perlite as well and have been letting her dry to about 10% before watering. She is growing a new leaf and I am pretty sure I saw a spike coming. I have had mine since 2020/2021. She has dropped leaves and roots in that time until I repotted her in July/august ( not at home to check). And now is over herself (hopefully anyway)
Yes! Your liodoro deserves a second chance. I'm cheering for her. I got mine after seeing yours and she has been slow to adjust but I think she'll be okay.
Th Anka for the second! I am going to get into her tomorrow and see what the heck! I know I overwatered and rotted the great root system she arrived with, but am she had roots going into the current pot. Thinking 🤔 it may be too big at the minute…. We shall see 🤞
Hi Trish, WOW, Pearl Cooper is gorgeous!😍 Your orchids are looking great even though you have been through a rough time and also had unwanted visitors. I have been fighting with VRBO squatters that I haven't been able to evict completely. Luckily, I have been able to confine them to one location, but I may end up having to nuke my Plumeria Anaheim Sunset to get rid of the spider mites.😢 I have tried 3 different miticides since spring, and they keep returning.🥺 Hope life is treating you better. Hugs, Sherrii
Howdy Sherrii… squatters are the worst are they not! She is even more beautiful in person. She was definitely worth the wait 😊 I am okay. How are you and yours? Hopefully you are doing well and remembering to care for yourself as well ❤️🌸
Your plants seem to be doing very well thanks for sharing with us. Haven’t seen you within for a long time. Hope you’re okay and we’ll catch you soon.❤
Thank you for stopping in to take a look see. Hope all is well for you too😊❤️🌸
Sorry about your leodoro. I hope that you are able to replace her. Thanks for the tour.
Hey Tess 👋 I am so upset with myself. I knew she was struggling but did nothing about it. I have seen her on Big Leaf Orchids several times this year so fingers crossed 🤞 they have it next season. 🌸
Everyone talks about how hardy the Liodoro is, but I’ve found mine to be pretty crabby! It sulks for a long time after repots, and abhors being either too wet or too dry 🙄 it’s a prima-donna for sure, and it takes up half the shelf on top of it 😭 No need to feel guilty, Trish! Your collection is green and happy.
@honeylamb23 thank you for the confidence booster Honey ❤️🌸 she definitely is one of the more “Princess and the Pea” orchids for sure! Hope you have a fantastic week ahead 🌸
Hi Trish! So good to see a video from you! Hope you are doing well/ok and look forward to the next vid!
Hi 👋 Bebe! Thank you for watching. 🌸❤️
Hey Trish, everything looking great! Sent you a email, thank you for sharing your updates on your collection🍃🌸👍 enjoy your weekend.
Thank you Anita. Will reply to your email soon 🌸❤️
I got my first phal shipped from a nursery, in soaking wet moss. After a week it lost all its blooms. It stayed wet for weeks. I finally find the courage followed your video and repotted it in orchid bark mix. I watered in generously, and placed it close to the window but not into direct light. Hope I didn’t kill it 😂
Sorry to hear you received your Phal in this condition, unfortunately it is the way with nurseries. It sounds like you have given it the best chance possible. Remember to keep it watered a bit more than you would normally until new roots establish as the old ones are used to a more moist environment. 🌸
I miss your Saturday strolls.
❤️ I will do one next Saturday just for you ❤️😊🌸
@robinnitowski2009 I am still trying to get the Stroll out, however, I am having some technical issues with phone and computer communication. Doing the best I can to get it done 🌸❤️🌸
hello, your clothing makes me think of @MissOrchidGirl, I don't know why... maybe it's the orchids subject in general. have a good day!🙂
I love the idea of growing hoya in the sea shell. we love growing hoya 😁. You made me laughed " I deserves that one " 😅 I said that to myself ,too.
😂 it is how I allow myself to not feel guilty about buying more 😍
You have a lot on your hands at the moment. Nice to see you again and your plants are doing good.
Hey Andrea😍 I do hope you are doing well! Thank you for your visit I very much appreciate you 🌸❤️
Hi Trish, Winter is a lucky dog to have you . yes, it;s hard for us and pets near end of life. Your collection is growing on hoya plants, and aroids plants. That's a very cute hanging swing .
Thank you 🙏 Lin ❤️ I am planning to get a couple more of those swimgs. Small and the larger ones. I used to have about 15 large Philodendron until I pivoted to orchids😂 I have no idea where these ladies will go once they start maturing, but I thought the same thing once the orchid bug hit me! I hope your week is going well for you 🌸
@@TrishsOrchidLife ❤have a great weekend .
Hi Trish, So good to see you back. I'm so sorry Winter is doing so poorly. The end times are so hard. You have my most sincere condolences. Considering what you are going through, your collection is looking great. I'm in a very similar boat, so I feel your pain. Bless you all. Lots of love, Sherrii❤
Bless you and your family Sherri❤️❤️❤️
@TrishsOrchidLife Yours too, my sweet friend.❤️
It seems like the potting medium matters. If potted in sphagnum moss I’ve found more rotted roots than when potted in bark.
True. But that is due to store keeping the moss too wet or too dry for longer than needed. Moss can be used, but needs to be airy and damp not soaking wet all the time. 🌸
I'm happy mine stands up and flowers. My first one died. It was a laying down one.
Yes, I have excepted that they will grow the way they want and I am loving how mine are doing now as well 🌸
Hi Trish! Good to hear from you, was getting worried. As an another pet lover, I understand what you are going through, so very difficult times. You know she appreciates all the care you are providing her…..look at her eyes ☺️. You take care too.
I appreciate you ❤️🌸
I guess in an odd way I was blessed when my last Borzoi dropped over of a heart attack at the age of 12. Pets break our hearts.....but they are so worth it.
I understand what you mean… I am hoping she goes to sleep and has no more pain. Sarai has decided to let her decide ❤️🌸
So sorry for what you are going thru. I relate and understand as we had a german shepherd who could not move is back legs. So much suffering for the dog and dog parents. Much love to you all ❤❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏 Fernanda Winter is such a trooper! I hate that she is on a few different pain medications that do change her personality a little but overall she is hiding it (as animals do) I hope you and your family are well and that your growing season was successful. I need to catch up on your videos (as well as a few others 😊)
aaaah! Thank you! I was thinking something about Intensive Care 🪴
What kind of orchids/plants do you grow?
Hi Trish, i'm new to your channel. Thanks for posing such great content! What does ICPU stand for? TIA
Hi Wendy!!! Welcome 🙏 ICPU= Intensive Care Plant Unit. I always forget that not everyone knows 😊❤️🌸
