This episode hits closer to home with the recent covid19 pandemic .

A gut punch "this is not Star Trek" episode, hits even harder nowadays, I can only think of one or two other shows that completely wipes out an entire faction in one fell swoop. Jim Norton was superb as Dr Lazaran, he also played the Ombuds in season 1's Grail, as well as Bishop Brennan in Father Ted

The thing about the 'quarantine' zone was covered briefly early in the episode - by putting all the people in one enclosed space, it just made it easier to spread from person to person. Something I love about this episode is that it talks about religion in a fairly balanced way. It shows how absurd the rituals look from the outside (the meal is based on the Jewish Passover meal), how it can make people blind and ignorant, but it also shows the depth of compassion it can inspire with what Lennier and Delenn do. The reluctance and the pauses in the episode are great too. You can see Garibaldi do that quick calculation where he works out that if he can catch he, he would have done so already so he can help the guy up, but the question of self preservation would definitely occur (it's why Princess Di hugging an AIDS patient was such a big deal back in the 80s). The medical staff needing a moment to collect themselves also seems incredibly real following events from about 4 years ago, I remember the stress of some of my nursing friends on FB. As for protective equipment, that was also covered early in the episode, that the air system on B5 was recycled, there would not be a clean source of air they could feed in to suits. If you ever go back and rewatch the series, one thing they consciously did this season was to have the Markab prominent in council situations. You see them show up a lot in foreground and background, and it's something that makes their extinction such a shock, it's not like it was the first episode they were shown

And the moral of the story is never trust politicians on healthcare issues.

Like you said - this is an episode that was different from others in not giving a 'happy ending' - just like 'Believers'....

One thing the series fails at is showing how things are changing "at home" for the various species on B5. Then they throw episodes like this at us, and we have to play catch up with radical changes the ambassadors should have been aware of.

It is impossible to overemphasize how important this episode is to the overall story arc. There is a lot that a first time viewer will not fully understand yet, but all will become clear in the fullness of time.

Just to let you know how insulting the finger wave is to the Centauri. Consider how many they have. We do the 1 finger salute. Vir did 4. We have seen Londo do all 8 before

This may be based on Gus Grissom., the second American in space. While his capsule was in the ocean the hatch blew open causing water to spill into the capsule nearly drowning Grissom. It was thought that Grissom panicked and hit the button to blow the hatch but Grissom always maintained he did not hit the button and that the hatch blew by itself. Recent investigation has proved Grissom innocent.

Tooms, one of the creepiest characters in any show is back yet again who we first saw in Squeeze, the episode that really switched people on to this show. When Skinner is first introduced to us he seems like a real jerk, but of course he is a major character in the show who has the welfare of Mulder and Scully and the X-Files as his priority always. One of the most unnerving things about Tooms is his facial expression and eyes when he picks up the scent of his potential victim. Another great reprise of one of the nastiest characters in the show.

Courtroom dramas were huge in the '60s so they did one. Fun Fact! Matter and antimatter do not annihilate each other when mixed. We just learned this to the befuddlement of the scientific community. Turns so much sci-fi on its head.

An interesting episode with lots of action and propaganda .

He's seeing things that aren't there, and you're questioning his aim. Lol

It's a fun change of format, but I love how it subtly introduces a few things like the attitudes of people on Earth, the progress of the war... It also reframes how G'Kar was in season 1. It doesn't change his behaviour but it contextualises it.

"What do people think they did to make them surrender?" We don't get a lot of the man on Earth perspective in B5. What we do see hints that propaganda says, "Battle of the Line showed them the price would be too high to take Earth and so they surrendered." But of course, this is nonsense.

The whole story of the Minbari surrender has not yet been revealed. There will be another Babylon 5 episode that uses this format in the future.

Of course there's food slots in the galley and rec rooms, but never been sure why there's food slots in the transporter room. Nonetheless, a well fed crew is a strong crew!

"The Army Purple uniforms" Yes, they had problems with colors on the show as it was very early days of color TV. Kirk's command "gold" uniform is actually green and Spock has green makeup on, but the color correction drained all the greens out of what we see so we get the weird mustard color command shirts and Spock's green skin doesn't show up at all. Not sure why the Air Force uniforms were tinted purple but I'm guessing color correction.

"How did they beam him standing up?" There is the way the transporter is said to work and the way that it appears to work. We are told that it disintegrates and reintegrates. What we see suggests it puts people into a subspace bubble and moves the bubble through this interdimensional space. While in the bubble you can move around so you should be able to stand up, probably a natural reaction to your chair disappearing from beneath you.
