    To fellow Wisconsin- ites, what do you think of playing Michigan every year in Football and Notre Dame as well. Plus the addition of the Iowa State Cyclones. Seeing Iowa and Iowa State together especially for Wrestling will be incredible. Football as well.

    Baaaaaaand…… TOOK the fucking field! Wow! that was beautiful! Including the sugary smooth movement! Thanks MMB! I saw you at every home game that year as usual but never saw this until now even though I knew it happened back then and even tho I was in the Silverdome twice that year to see the beloved Panthers beat scum Trump & scum Herschel Walker & the New Jersey Generals and beat the Invaders in the playoff game! AC AC AC!!!!! I shot for The Football Guide for 3 yrs from ‘97-‘99 I think, and my best work was always my artistic & even abstract shots of the band from around you in the stands when you were in your seats and on the field when you were on the field In fact, it was because of trying to get some better shots of you at half time down in South Bend, from the stands, that I ended up shooting from on the field for the first time, at ND stadium, that tiny replica of Meeechigan Stadium! I’ll come back and tell that story soon!

    The performance was during halftime of the Dec 5, 1983 game at the Pontiac Silverdome with the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions actually won that game, 13-2, and Howard Cosell, in his final season with MNF, had to stop talking during the end of that song when the band turned backed towards the press box and played the finale at an amazingly loud volume - the Silverdome was too loud for him to continue!

    At 3:00 minutes, exactly, you can see that a program fell from a clarinetist's pants. He bought the program right before the game and shoved it in his pants. It fell onto the field at the 3:00 mark and was captured on camera. LEGENDARY.

    Damn if audio capture devices were better back then omggggg. This feels like a different time in the big house.

    • @jeffgoblue
      @jeffgoblue 3 года назад

      Actually the audio differences between that era and now are due to the following: 1) That old turf with concrete underneath reflected a great deal of sound 2) The field was lowered by over three feet when that turf was ripped out after the 1990 season to make way for grass. The walls between the stands in the field during the Astroturf era were only about 3 feet tall. 3) The old press box of that era is much shorter than the current one - this affects microphone placement for band recordings. Long story short is that all of those changes place current microphones much farther away from the band, and a lot of the sound gets swallowed up by the lowered field and the current turf as compared to these old recordings.

    How many of you can say that the Michigan Marching Band copped your stuff? See Rocky Meets Moose by The Brass Band released in 1980. No problems. We're kind of honored. BTW: Whoever pulled the arrangement off our record did a really good job. They pretty much got it all except for the Piccolini Trumpet part. Understandable since there is only one Piccolini Trumpet in the world. Guess who owns it?

      TMMB was more athletic back-in-the days. Now, with reserves, there are 400 members and halftime is all DCI style shows. The "lock-at-the-top" is only during pregame. Still the best band on earth. YUBA and always GO BLUE! ]\/[ Flags '75

      Sorry, Adam, but you're an idiot. If you watch the whole video and listen to what the announcer for the Michigan Band says, you'll clearly hear that Michigan's opponent that Saturday was Northwestern - so the band in question is the Northwestern University Marching Band. Might want to look (and listen) before you accuse next time!

    The first bands I ever saw was at the Silverdome, in 1980 and it was Central Michigan's band. And I thought, man it would be nice to see the Michigan Band .The next time I came back to a Lions game, BOOM, there was the Michigan Marching Band, the BLOCK M, and HAIL TO THE VICTORS, and I was all excited, and couldn't share it with anybody! That was the first time I sang THE VICTORS WITH THE BAND! And let me tell you, IT WAS HARD for any band to sound good in that dome, but they did!

  • @GOBLUEADAM

    To this day, THIS IS THE GREATEST VERSION of the Pregame Victors EVER CAPTURED on film. I know, because from 1988 to 2001, I took my camera into the Big House and tried to film it, but never got it that good! And not even the tons of video from today or it's cellphones, or even from the MMB itself, has captured it THAT GOOD! This version is from what all people filming this great band and song, STRIVE TO MATCH or even surpass! And by the way, when they got to the CIRCLE M formation, they turn it and march down the field, to the VICTORS. And High Stepping it, STILL MAKES IT LOOK BETTER, than the march style of today!

    Thanks to a few emails over the years from me, the band did put the HIGH STEP back in for a portion of the pregame in the early 2000's. Ironman, I Want You Back, and a few more things like playing to the crowd in the stands, were my suggestions, but the rest is all Michigan. They have great directors now, and great kids marching, and they have once again made this band GREAT. I still wish for a full HIGH STEP pregame, but they everything else is okay with me. GO BLUE!
