Great video guys, but as a Canadian I want to say it’s a misconception it’s cold up here and always snowing. Similar climate as most northern states in fact many of us actually live south of 49th parallel (Seattle) and most live within a few hours of the border. Great work otherwise !
We know it’s somewhat cliche’ - I have been to Canada on a few occasions and it’s was beautiful weather (fall and spring) - never been there in the summer but I bet that wonderful 😁 - thanks for setting us Americano’s strait 😂🇺🇸❤️🇨🇦
Rush #1
Hell yes!!!👍
9:42 The word Celtic is not pronounced "SELL-TIK" unless you're talking about basketball in Boston. It's "KELL-TIK" if you're talking about Irish culture (include the music.)
Haha, guess it’s a classic case of “Celtic” vs. “Celtics”! Maybe we should start a band called “The Kelltics” just to avoid confusion! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
Razor, The Killer Dwarf's, Devin Townsend, Sacrifice, Dayglo Abortions, The Grapes of Wraith, Exciter, Kick Axe, Shuffle Demons, Rhymes with Orange, 3 inches of Blood, Skinny Puppy, Strapping Young Lads,54-40, Nomeansno, The Real McKenzie's, Doug and the Slugs, Sweeney Todd, Payolas, Econoline Crush, Moist, The Stampeders, Big Sugar. Canada has put lots of good music out, in all genres of music
Dude, that’s a sick list! I’m definitely gonna jam out to some of these bands. Canada really knows how to rock! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
" Gordon Lightfoot"
Diesel " Sausalito Summer Night " had an Alpine in my car .. early 80s in high school it got major milage
Good song! Will add it to the PL - Thanks for reaching out - it wasn’t until later on (early 90’s) when I bought a used VW (something or other) that I was able to have an Alpine a stereo in the car - I remember it being pretty decent deck with auto reverse 😁
Please take Men Without Hats out of this video. Completely embarrassing to Canadians!
Haha, I hear ya! Not everyone vibes with Men Without Hats, but they definitely turned heads (for better or worse)! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
The Band started as The Hawks, backing up Ronnie Hawkins. Dylan was second.
Thanks for sharing that insight! The Band's roots are fascinating, and we appreciate you bringing that up! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
Best music ever, some 50's lots of 60's and 70's, and great cars. Great times and memories.
Thanks for tuning in! Glad you enjoyed the ride! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
CRTC requires 50 % Canadian content for broadcast allowing Canadian bands to thrive without being overrun by imports
It’s awesome how those rules help Canadas bands shine. Canada’s music scene is seriously underrated! We have been planning another video which points this out be sure to subscribe if you haven't already and Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
Frozen Ghost, The Box., Glass Tiger, Martha and the Muffins, Payolas, Honeymoon Suite, Rough Trade, Platinum Blonde.
Offenbach/Gerry Boulet==TRES Heavy Biues Rock
Oh, for sure! Offenbach is a killer band-totally underrated! Thanks for bringing them up! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
trooper, matt minglewood, Guardian, chillawack, alda nova, headpins, toronto, neil young joni mitchell , the stampoeders , leonard cohen , burtin cummings........................................
No mention of Blue Rodeo? C'mon.
Blue Rodeo is only my favorite band ever. They have mastered so many musical styles. Ballads, rock, country, and everything in between! They were featured in our 1st Canadian video.....
The Tea Party.
Nickelback, Theory Of A Deadman, Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good Band, City and Colour, Streetheart, Harlequin, The Trews, The Arkells, One Bad Son, The Sheepdogs, Royal Tusk, July Talk, Bryan Adams, The Watchmen, Big Wreck, Rush, Glass Tiger, Alannah Myles, I Mother Earth, Sloan, Tegan and Sara, Billy Talent, Three Days Grace And if you want a few heavy metal bands check out Unleash The Archers, Spiritbox, Kobra and The Lotus
I should also add Danko Jones, Platinum Blonde, Corey Hart, Voivod, Default, Alexisonfire, The Tea Party, Moist, Headstones, Sweeny Todd, The Stampeders, The Payola$
Wow, that’s an impressive list! You've definitely covered a lot of ground with Canadian bands. We will have to check out some of the ones we haven’t heard of yet! Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
Did he say Bor Ja Salming?
You never heard of Nickle Back?! You have got to be kidding. They taur all over. Sharen
It’s Larry you have to understand 😂😂😂 - Todd
Abril Levigne.
No one meantioned Shania Twain yet. Saw her live in concert 🎵 in Saskatoon. She thanked Indian Head School for helping her bus crew warm up,they ate breakfast and got back on the road. Anne Murray.Valdy. Sharen

Red Rider is Tom Cochran and he sang the original Life Is A Highway. Then Big Leagues. True story about a car crash. Sharen
Totally! Red Rider is awesome, and that car crash story? Wild! Thanks for chiming in, Sharen! us❤ca
BNL do the theme for the Big Bang Theory as well. Tom Cochrane (Red Rider) : Life is a Highway, Glass Tiger : Someday, Goddo : Sweet Thing, Coney Hatch : First time for every thing, Bryan Adams : Summer of 69, The Spoons : Romantic Traffic, Colin James : Five long Years, Platinum Blonde : Standing in the Dark, Blue Rodeo : Diamond Mine, The Northern Pikes : She ain't pretty she just looks that way, The Pursuit of Happiness : I'm a adult now, Lee Aaron : Metal Queen/What you do to my body (Most of these have a few but I think Lee's second wind with "What you do.." was a substantially bigger hit or at least was pushed harder by the Label and with MTV Video's. It's more Bon Jovi than QueensRyche/Iron Maiden.
Wow, what a fantastic list! You've covered so many iconic Canadian bands. I love how you’ve highlighted both classics and some that are lesser-known. Thanks for sharing we will add this to our next video and thanks to the great response to this series, we have some SPECIAL things planned that we all can learn from. Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
@@GrayBeardsNation I'm sorry, er, I mean thanks Yank.
April Wine, Triumph, Saga, Max Webster. What are a few of the bands that played at my high?school?
Love those picks! I bet your high school was a total concert zone back in the day. What was the best show you saw there?
@@GrayBeardsNation It was. Before I went there, Rush played. Twice. When they tried to get them for a third year the price doubled. Seems the guys were all legal and could play in bars. Not sure what the best show was, there were a lot of them. Triumph is quite memorable. Saw them at a neighbouring high?school a few weeks before ours and a flash pot started a fire. When they came to our school someone flooded a men's room. lol. My high?school was close enough to home to run over for a beer between sets. So many up and coming Canadian bands played there in the late 60s, 70s, 80s. Couldn't speak for what they do now.
If you grew-up in Canada in the late 60s, 70s and early 80s the outside influences were always America and Europe. The liberal imposed CanCon restrictions on music in this country had a very limited effect on what Canadian bands we embraced, listened to and went to see live. It was just a fact-of-life if the band or artist didn't have serious American or UK management connections (Tragically Hip is a good example) then they didn't go beyond 'regional popularity' back-in-the-day. Lee Aaron, Headpins, Max Webster, Teenage Head, Harlequin, Trooper, Saga, Lighthouse and Domenic Troiano (to name a few) never received their just global recognition.
@johnpatterson4272 my wife is german so we visit there a lot - turns out Saga is bigger in Europe than in Canada. Harlequin songs were also played and well known in the clubs visited there. Lee Aaron well know in the metal crowd in Europe
The US liberal agenda is built into everything and its getting harder to know the difference anymore (we are not fans - 'nuff said). It’s always interesting to hear from those who experienced that era firsthand. BTW your not the only one who has mentioned the CanCon deal - we are very curious - an upcoming episode possibly - let us know if you think its worth the effort and what things you think we should highlight. Thanks for the insightful comment!
@@lagnicourtd.c.m.8919 Very true and much more common in the 80s for Canadian and European bands to be big in both countries while only having marginal success in the US.
@@GrayBeardsNation CanCon restrictions came into play during the early Trudeau Sr. regime. It filtered into everything including public school music. My mother was a music consultant for a Board of Education in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The content of what she taught from Grades 1 to 8 had to include at least 80% Canadian generated content with at least half of that in the French language. Then there was the 'half-back' program on Canadian music merchandise in the late 70s/early 80s but that's a story for another day. There is still pending legislation on the table in our Parliament which will permit an increase in the use of AI in recorded broadcast music.
Does MacLean and MacLean qualify? They were always a blast to watch live.
The Band started as the Hawks behind Ronnie Hawkins. Then they became Bob Dylan's backup band.
Bingo
Excellent bit of trivia !
Teaze!
Trooper and Bachman Turner Overdrive as well as Randy Bachman as a solo artist. Blue Northern was also an awesome Canadian band .Quarterflash :) Great Canadian bands even if they dont fit this list.
I can't imagine why Trooper or BTO wouldn't belong on the list. God, I can't count how many times I saw Trooper and they were always great.
Awesome picks! I totally vibe with Trooper and Bachman Turner. Canada seriously has some hidden gems!
Headpins, Goddo, Trooper, BTO
Glass Tiger; The Dead South; Northern Pikes
No, the Band didn’t start out by backing Dylan. They were Ronnie Hawkins’ backup band before that, then called The Hawks. Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks were a Toronto club-band staple-although Ronnie and drummer/singer Levon Helm were from Arkansas -a case of ‘reverse brain-drain’.
Ah, so they were like the ultimate backup dancers before they found their groove! Just goes to show that sometimes you need a little ‘reverse brain-drain’ to find your true calling!
The Odds Wide Mouth Mason Platinum Blonde Corey Hart Rock & Hyde Bryan Adams Our Lady Peace Three Days Grace Finger Eleven Glass Tiger The Kings Tom Cochrane Alanis Morissette Alannah Myles 54-40 Spacehog Len Spirit of the West
The video would be much better if you would just cut the music while you're talking and then play the music for a few seconds.
Thank you for your input! We always strive to improve the videos, and your suggestion is really helpful (your not the only one who suggest this) lets do this!!
Moxy. They seem to be the most forgotten band in the country. Can't touch their first two albums though.
Totally agree! Moxy's first albums are fire! It's wild how some bands just slip under the radar.
So far no surprises....but what is up with the audio?! And seriously, including the Hip on the list is silly. Same with the BNL.
Totally get you! The audio needs to step up its game, and I know not everyone vibes with our picks. We would put money on this: If you walked up to 5 people in the heart of the US, only one of them might know who The Tragically Hip is, and that one person may know the name, but probably never heard a track from them. Its odd how a multi-platinum band in Canada, a place where an imaginary line separates us, is not heard anywhere in the US. What bands would you throw on the list?
R-O-C-K, what you got? ROCK! What you gonna do? ROCK YOU! Now that's a song!- Ricky.
LOL - I agree @shuntguy - I remember the first time I heard that song - it was on the radio (it was not rotation for long) I was HOOKED!😁 Thanks for the comment! us❤ca
The Reading Festival is pronounced "Redding" not "Reeding". Do your effin homework. Plus shut your pie holes so we can listen to the music, not listen to you yip.
5440, Streetheart, Queen City Kids, Sloan
Gino Vanelli, Alana Miles, Lee Aaron, Chilliwack, Toronto, Rough Trade, Honeymoon Suite, Harlequin, Headpins, the Headstones, Sons of the West; for blues you have Colin James and David Wilcox; for punk you have DOA, D.D.T and Dayglo Abortions.
kd lang and one of my all-time faves, the incredibly talented CANO from Northern Ontario
The cutting in and out of the music is horrible.
Working on it... Zoom Meeting software sucks butt :(
Not to be a dick, but for a channel jawing about rock bands the audio is really poor.
5 man electrical band. Based in Ottawa. Originally the Staccatos. Most famous song Signs
Socialists
The Tea Party, Sloan, Matthew Good Band/Matthew Good, Metric, Wintersleep, Hey Rosetta, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Moist, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, Protest The Hero, Alexisonfire, Billy Talent, Alanis Morissette, Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Bryan Adams, Unleashed The Archers, 3 Inches of Blood, Spiritbox, Avril Lavigne, City and Colour, Half Moon Run
Looks like you just dropped the Canadian music bomb! pretty sure I can hear our Spotify playlist groaning with excitement!
Platinum blonde, chalk circle, pukka orchestra
The Stampeders
Sloan!
Stampeders Lighthouse Chilliwac Headpins Steppenwolf Matt Minglewood
@@madeinfoxtrap5539 Darby Mills went on to have a solo career after the Headpins. I have both Headpins and Darby’s CD’s. Great Canadian music! 🇨🇦🦫🇨🇦
Joe Lynn Turner? No, it's Fred Turner in BTO.
