I don’t think he’s understanding the sentiment there though… just because it’s used widely doesn’t mean it’s ok. It’s racially demeaning in a way that points to the “whiteness” being the issue. Just like they have terms in other countries that mean mixed like mulatto or sambo etc. In my own personal views, if you don’t know someone on a personal level enough to make a friendly joke I think you should avoid using any terms that speak to someone’s skin color/pigment or “race” which is an outdated social construct anyway.

History is an interesting thing.... voices from the past indeed .... I'm a white English man living on the south west coast of England. For way more than 300 years slave traders from North Africa raided this area to capture people for the Arab slave markets. They roamed as far as Ireland, Scotland & Iceland to get slaves. In the 1600's there were over 60 slaves ships patrolling the Devonian & Cornish coastline at any given time. Parilmentary accounts showed up to 60 people a day being captured & the number of white slaves held for sale in Algiers was normally between 3,000 - 5,000. In one documented raid on Cornwall, 240 people were taken. This went on until as recent as 1816, when the British and Dutch took Algiers & rescued 4,000 white christian slaves. So let's make this clear... Black North Africans were enslaving white people to sell to Arabs as slaves for over 300 years. I'm still waiting for my reparation payment. Statistically, from the middle ages on until the current time, if you were a slave, you would most likely be white Irish.

So much sense spoken by this man (and many others). If you take things out of context and don't know or ignore history, then you cannot argue your point. Context, history and debate (not haranguing) are crucial. But above all, do not browbeat anyone when you don't have all the facts, and be prepared to learn new facts and ideas. Broaden your horizons, and maybe this world could be a pleasant place to live in with less contention.

In my experience "banana" is not much used in China, because there isn't a big population of mixed culture kids or people. It is however used in Chinese diaspora environments - Malaysia, Aus, NZ, BC - where there is an attempt to stigmatize longer-standing migrant groups with "European" cultural traits. It changes too. 30 years ago the most swingeing insults were directed at ABCs - American Born Chinese.

I love the point about how people who have been caught up in "woke" are assuming that everyone is as ignorant as they are. Millennials are especially bad at thinking they invented everything. As if nobody has ever fought for civil rights before they discovered them. Its so insulting to the battles that people who came before them fought.

A colleague at work recently started spouting off about “white, male privilege”. I have heard similar bs from coworkers for years…racist, sexist, ageist comments…it creates a hostile work environment…and now we have DEI organizations that reinforce the already implicit approval of this lefty bias in the workplaces. I only recently realized that politically left-leaning others continue to vomit their bias because they are never challenged. I have personally decided to challenge🤠🇺🇸

I've said it for years, there are people that want to maintain divisions between people and not let us just be people. We will never progress with this "me" type of thinking.

I'm white and went to private school. About 60 kids in my year. 5 where black, 10-20 where Asian and the rest white. In South West UK you'd actually expect a greater ratio of white kids. In fact I'm pretty sure the local state school down the road consisted of 99% white kids that hated us 😂 Anyway... I'm lucky. My Dad grew up poor so try telling him that I was just born lucky for my skin colour or any other reason, he worked for me to have a better life.

What he says is really spot-on about how people want to exclaim that they discovered someone from the past and how there wasn't enough representation. In music for example people want to say that the punk genre was never inclusive for women, and yet from the beginning, there were vital female punk singers and bands, but people won't do the work and deep dive into the music enough to discover them. Or look at all the prominent female programmers, researchers, and scientists, who worked for NASA and the military developing technologies. It's hugely disrespectful to the writers, singers, musicians, scientists, etc who put in the work and get ignored by virtue signalers.

Great discussion, although I think some clarity needed about the mention of debt in the U.K. & France. The U.K. as a country paid a huge price to end slavery, but to slave owners. Sounds nonsensical but that’s what it took politically at the time. This was raised through debt & taxes. If the descendants of those slave owners families wish to pay some of their wealth over as reparation (as some already have) that is for them to decide, but I would say the common man in the U.K. already paid the price. And of course the cost the U.K. bore to stamp out slavery across the globe is in addition. The case of Haiti is completely different. Following a successful rebellion led by Toussain Louverture, Napoleon sought international sanctions which forced Haiti to make a vast payment to ‘buy’ its independence & compensate France. This debt, as alluded to, was only recently extinguished.

The term is fundamentally just another suite in the deployment of soft power in aid of Mass Migration at global body level ABOVE national level by the indicated organizations/agencies that make up the bogus law-breaking, democracy-ruining rules at that level all complicit with national governments for political-economic reasons eg UN Agency on Human Rights, Asylum, Family Reunification - it's all a massive CON on the native populations to force them into the position of inferiority complex to accept millions of foreigners into Europe, NA - look at the stats on migration which don't lie then look at the macro policies for past decades in support of allowing that to happen by breaking their own rules of governance via global rules as the fudge method to override. So the cod psychology methods to befuddle people do have a very sinister purpose and intent and spread no matter they're the reverse -ism of what they purport to fight so hard against in broad-day light ie hypocrisy reigns in culture as a consequence of practical political expedience a macro level.
