Nice shots lad
Appreciate it!
I would bring the RF 16mm, 28mm, 50mm stm, 24-105mm and the 100-400 for intimate weight savings and enjoying your trip with whom ever your going with. If I am going alone with the focus on street and landscapes I would also bring the 14-35mm and the 70-200 f4 and leave the RF 100-400mm home unless I am doing wildlife photography. 😊
Very nice
Thanks!
Here from the main channel, no clue if you do this already (ignore this if so), but would be really cool to see this kinda vlog being live streamed!
Loved your editing, awesome vid!
I appreciate it thank you!
Not the Sendai colony 😂😂😂 I love the shots, always beautiful
Haha thanks!
Never knew about the island. Pretty cool eh
Yea it was cool, i didnt know about it either! Luckily becca did some research
Boom
nice vlog! make a trip over to queen west next time and then go to ossington ave. lots of cool stores/restaurants/bars there
Thanks! Definitely adding those places to my list for next time!
Video is very useful! thanks!
Appreciate that! Glad it helps!
Thanks for the video bro, kinda helps. I dont have photoshop but you explained canvas adjusting well enough and maybe ill do it with some other program.👏🏻🤟🏻
For travel in Canon my holy trinity is f/2.8 L but for Sony I do have smaller 16-25/2.8 and 24-50/2.8 but also 70-200/4 and 24-105/4. Also have the RF 50/1.2, 85/1.2, and 135/1.8 so you’ve convinced me that kit is not built for travel. Nice thinking. Will have to decide if I should swap in the 14-35/4 L and 70-200/4 L lenses and restructure my kit Thank you and take care.
Very good selection of the top most useful words in japanese. If I could add one more that you use a lot, it's to ask for the bill at a restaurant. Okaikei. So using the words you already mentioned... "Sumimasen, okaikei kudasai" or just "okaikei, kudasai" . They undestand and use "chekku" (or just 'check' for that matter) - but I think "sumimasen, okaikei onegaishimasu" warms a japanese heart the most ;) Maybe even add the "thanks a lot for the delishious meal" - word. Gochisousama or Gochisousamadeshita (even more poilte)
Great tip! Thank you!
Also important: Hitori desu when u are alone or Futari desu when u are 2 people at an restaurant
Also good ones to know! Thanks!
Instead of using kudasai(which is somewhat demanding), when asking for things, you can use onegaishimasu as well. Kore Onegaishimasu (oh-nay-guy-she-mass). Another handy phrase would be Daijoubu (Die-joe-bu) desu (I'm ok/I'm fine, thanks). If someone wants to hand you something or asks if you want anything else.
I agree, these are both good to know as well! For kudasai vs onegaishimasu, either is probably ok at the tourist level, but i agree both are good to know and to use onegaishinmasu for a little more respectful tone =] thanks for the suggestions!
Boom some good info!
I usually have no issues with landscape, it was mainly portrait, seen loads of version and (by far) the one which I never though of was this simple bit of maths. Will test this, but I also have a created a template of 1080x1350 in PS. I will see which works best. :)
Sounds good let me know which way is easier!
@@cafeandpassports Hi, so yeah I tried a few experiments, for 4:5 ratios (never had any issues with landscape shots on Instagram, so I don't ratio them), but always have issues with Instagram cropping portrait shots. One experiment was your suggestion, but still ended up with some cropping (knew they cropped as I usually have a nice white border around). My second experiment was by using my 1080x1350 template. Add my border onto my main exported image (usually around 15px all-round), save a copy of that for other portfolios, then select all, copy, and paste into my 1080x1350 template. As it copies over the full size, I just use the scaling tool in the top left-hand corner and resize to fit within the template. Might not be 100% perfect but I now have something which fits, is in ratio and has no subtle distortion or skewing. The 'Pointing the Way' and 'The Distant Point' images here instagram.com/adrianbutton.photography/ are my experiment results. (Sometimes an image is worth a thousand words and examples help). I really appreciate your interest in wanting to know how both your idea and mine work out :)
I love the camera quality, and nice takes going around the country !
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Awesome stuff
Thanks buddy
Boom
Would love to go there myself one day
it's amazing, couldn't recommend it enough!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks my guy!
Great video
Thanks!
Thanks for making this video! Total photo noob here, also going to Japan next month and have been trying to figure out if the lenses I currently have (Sigma 16mm and 30mm) will get the job done for city and countryside exploration. I appreciate the breakdowns and things to consider!
Thanks for watching!
Love this!
Thanks!
Very cool idea! Gonna try the same
Thanks! Definitely fun to have a goal while out shooting!
awesome
thanks!
Nice.
Thank you!
Planning to use my new 15-30 and 70-200 on next trips. A little bit concerned to leave my old 24-70 but I’ll try to be outside of comfort zone. Thanks for share your experience.
I made a similar decision to not use my 24-105 which is a safe choice but ended up being alright! Hope your trips go well!
Nicely done. Some great shots wow
thanks boss!
Hi Chris... excellent process and overview. Love the way it was segmented and the thorough process around it. Which lenses you ended up brining to Japan? Like you I have a big trip coming up (2 weeks in Greece) and I have all of the 4 lenses you have on the "checks all boxes" category. But I want to bring only 2. Given Greece has a lot of monuments, architecture, mountains, beaches, etc., I am debating which two I should bring: 14-35mm F4 + 24-105mm F4, or 24-70mm F2.8 + 70-200mm F4 Not intending to bring any throw-ins though. Just want to be light weight, versatile and minimalistic but covering all the scenarios typical of a vacation trip to a place that has so much history. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I ended up bringing the 14-35 f/4 and the 70-200 f/4. The 70-200 is my favorite lens and i kept that one on about 85% of the time for both street photos as well as distant landmarks/landscapes like when i went to see Mt Fuji, and i was glad to have the 14-35 to swap to whenever i saw a particular shot i wanted, especially indoors in tight spaces or with a big landscape scene i wanted. I guess i would recommend thinking about what kind of shots you want to prioritize and what situations you envision yourself in. I think those two lenses personally gave me the best coverage of what i was looking for. Hope that helps! But dont worry too much, you cant go wrong with either combo youre thinking of. But im biased towards having the 70-200 as an option =]
Thanks, Helps a lot.
You can also record these steps as a Photoshop Action and then fly through a roll of photos that need the border for instagram. Great tip!

@ipspots1 ok thanks for supporting my video!
Where is the photo you took?

yep it's in there about 10 seconds in
Interesting perspective!
thanks!
It all depends on where you are going and what you are shooting. Last time in Japan I had a 24-240mm, a 16-35mm F2.8 and a 35mm F1.8 with 2 bodies. It worked pretty well. Honestly I think people don't appreciate a 24-240 as much as they should. It really gives you the true flexibility to not miss a moment (great glass is only great when you have the right lens attached). How big you need to blow it up anyways (my OG A7 with 24-240 - I printed to 20x30"). I really think the trick for travel is getting from wide all the way to tele in a whole kit, and then choosing a prime that you are going to use in the evening, ideally close focusing for detail shots. Personally I like 28 or 35mm for the prime, and it's nice to have that focal length covered in all lenses (because you start to see in that focal length).
having one lens with that range (like 24-240) combined with a single prime with wide aperture is definitely another approach you can take
@@cafeandpassportsHi Chris. Thanks for sharing your input. Much appreciated. I’m inclined on taking the 14-35mm regardless as I think I will have many possible shots close to large and wide buildings (like the Parthenon). So, the question is which longer zoom I should take. Did you wish you had a longer focal length than 70mm during your Japan trip? In my case, I think I may need the extra reach given the landscape in Greece, especially in the islands. So I am inclined to go with the 24-105mm. Combined with the 14-35mm, they weigh less than 3 lbs ( 2.94 to be precise). If I take the 24-70 like you did, however, it adds about half a pound (3.41 lbs). Not much. Again, thanks for your feedback.
Nice video, straight to the point
thanks for watching, i appreciate it
Very good points made and well done Chris! channel subscribed. I just spent a week in Nayoga and 80% of the time I used the 85mm F2, while the rest 16mm F2.8
Thanks for the sub! An 85 and a 16 is a cool package
NOT A FAN, DONT KNOW ANY SONGS, WOULDNT WASTE THE TIME OF DAY, NO LOSS
ok.
Excellent video. The Nikon equivalents for travel are very close to Canon. For travel I only ever take two lenses... a 24-120mm f4 as my primary lens and a 14-30mm f4 for more street and interior shots. Both are lightweight versatile lenses that are of excellent quality and don't break the bank. For travel light weight versatility is king. You are usually stuck behind fences and unable to pick and choose where you stand when taking a photo, so being able to frame images with the zoom is key. You are usually shooting landmarks and scenes so wider angles are usually required with the odd zoom in for people and detail shots.
Nice! sounds like we're on the same page. Glad to hear someone confirm that the Nikon options are similar. Thanks for watching!
nice shot!
thanks!
Niceee, did you show the guy afterwards?
No i shouldve!
Awesome!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
i like a little of context in the photo so i usually go for f4 or higher rather than completely obliterate the surroundings when i travel… there are maybe couple of times i thought “its better if i can blur the background” or “its nice if i can get those big bokeh balls”… but other than that 90% of my photos are in f4 and higher… i dont want to carry anymore my fat ass f1.4 prime and 2.8 zoom… i want to slap that 70-200 f4 in my camera 😂 now looking to buy one. 😊
Yea I'm with you on that, the f/4 has been great so far and I don't regret it at all
Good video Chris, I'm wondering do you still use this process today? If not what do you do differently? Thank you 🙏😊
Thanks! Yep it’s still the process I use. Maybe there’s another way to do it but I’m still rolling with this for now.
Nicely done. The shoot n show is fun to watch
