Backpacking the North Lake South Lake Loop
Take a ride with Chris, Rashad and me (Scott) on our backpacking trip on the North Lake South Lake Loop in the Eastern Sierra. This trip starts and ends near Bishop, CA. We started from North Lake, went over Piute Pass, met the John Muir Trail and finished by climbing over Bishop Pass to end at South Lake. This was an amazing hike with two great friends. In this video, you'll see McClure Meadow, the John Muir Memorial Shelter on Muir Pass and the Muir Monster! There are many other amazing views, including lakes we enjoyed fishing and swimming in. Enjoy!

The Mineral King Loop | A Backpacking Documentary
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.3 года назад
This is a documentary of our family backpacking trip on the Mineral King Loop in the Sequoia National Park. This hike by far had the toughest passes I have ever done, especially with a pack on. This trail is not as well known or traveled as many of the others in the Sierras, but it is every bit as beautiful and challenging. I hope you enjoy. #backpacking #familyhike #mineralkingloop Gear Used O...

Thank you for making and sharing this video. It has been very helpful. I am planning on doing this loop (clockwise) in a couple months. Do you recommend staying Bubbs Creek or Vidette Meadow at the end of my trip?

I stayed at Bubbs Creek when I did this loop and at Vidette Meadow when I did the JMT. I think Vidette Meadow wins for me. It has a lot of flat area to camp near the creak. It has a bear box if you need it. You might go slightly out of the way for those sights when doing the loop, but it's a nice area.

I love water, and there are very few videos that show the amount of stunning waterfalls and rivers that yours has. Thank you so much! I've started this comment so many times because your video literally took my breath away and I wanted you to know how much it has meant to me. Disabled and from the UK I will never see the JMT myself, so thank you for filming the beauty of the trail as wonderfully as you have!

Sorry for the late reply. I have been busy with work lately and don't get on RUclips much these days. Your comment means a lot to me. I originally planned to make this video for my family, but I am so happy I shared it on RUclips now. I'm so glad that it has had a positive impact on you and others. Your comment captures a main reason I made this video, to share the beauty of the outdoors with others that could not be there with me; initially my family, but now so happy to include others. If you have not already seen it, the other video that is most similar to this one is The Mineral King Loop, A Backpacking Documentary. I did that one with my family in 2021. And, you are the first on RUclips to hear, I am close to posting my hike from last year on the North Lake South Lake Loop with two of my best friends. That loop covers part of the JMT. I am making that video similar in style to my JMT video. Thanks for watching and take care! Scott

I have used a sat phone, Spot gen 2 and the (pre-Garmin) DeLorme InReach SE. My fave is the InReach, due to the 2-way messenging, sending coordinates with your message, affordabiity (compared to the newer Garmin InReach- $$$.) The older SPOTs don't have 2-way, but I'm sure the new one is very similar in performance to the InReach.

    • @outdooradventurefilms1436
      @outdooradventurefilms1436 2 года назад

Hi Chris. I'm actually running a little behind and need to do a new review. I'm actually using the Zoleo now. It has the two-way messaging and can connect to your phone by Bluetooth for texting just like the InReach. I think it has similar function to the InReach mini. It does not have mapping or anything, but is a great two-way communicator for less money than the InReach. I'm very happy with it.

I do the same - I've worked my food "truth" down to mostly using the BV450 - I can get 6 nights in there with only minor cheating (whisky/wine first nights trash) I love my bear cans, I can take crackers in lieu of heavy dry tortillas and they never break.

Hi Hendrick. Are you talking about the string/rope on the outside? If so, all I did was take the thin rope/string from my old pack (put you can get the same stuff at Home Depot or Lowes (probably any hardware store). The Rook has loops that it can weave through. It works great for hanging wet clothes. I also kept my bandana hung from it, which I used as a towel. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the review. I hiked PCT with Levity and HMG, JMT with Atmos 65 and several different hiking with Exos. Now I'm ended up with Rook 65 and daylite pack which is the most suitable combination for me as they are comfy, light, cooling my back and have enough pockets. I usually put my groundsheet or wet clothes on my front pouch but as Rook doesn't have one, I want to make some modifications on the front side like you with string. Very brilliant!

Yes, that's what I used my string for...hanging wet clothes. It actually worked better than a mesh pocket because they dry out faster this way. Thanks for watching!

Great video; we did it the exact same route, in late August 2019; it was perfect timing; two weeks of relentless hiking with heavy backpacks, stopping only at VVR. Proper training really paid off. It was an adventure of a lifetime. Congratulations! Happy hiking!

Congratulations to you too on your hike! 2019 was a big snow year. Did you encounter any snow at the higher elevations? Thanks for watching!

@@outdooradventurefilms1436 not much; there was a little around Helen lake/Muir pass and small patches at Forester and Whitney. August is the best month to do it, there’s little or no snow and temps are not as cold at night. I didn’t pack an extra layer and got really cold on the last two nights inside YNP.

@@franciscogarza8273 Interesting what you said about being cold in YNP. My two coldest nights were at lower elevations. I had freezing temperatures overnight at McClure Meadow and then another cold night at Crater Meadow. Oddly enough, warmer temps at the higher elevations.

@@outdooradventurefilms1436 sounds familiar; it was a strong cold front on 9/10-11 what made for a couple of 20 degree nights.

I am 6’4” and nearly 300 pounds. Will this pack work for me? I enjoyed your review and appreciate your video. I’m also subbed!

I believe it should suit your torsal. I'd concern more on the pack fixed-size waist belt. The best thing to do is trying it out with load in the pack before you decide. As a side note, the pack uses polyester as the main material, which renders a rougher touch than its nylon counterpart. The pack also lacks of front mesh and under lid pockets.

When you try out the pack also pay attention to the shoulder straps. I found them a little rougher than what I used to but they aren't too bad.

Good advice! I am 5'11", 170 lbs, so I can't speak to how well it would work for you, Fly Rod Hiker. It would definitely benefit you to try to find a local outlet with this pack to try it on before purchasing.
