I totally agree. You speaking the truth. I’m leaving this field. No matter how hard you work, still feel unappreciated and feel like you’re fighting for every minute of time that you deserve. A lot of shops don’t pay for your time to help techs, ask to help a customer for no pay, no diag pay, warranty time sucks. Overall not worth a field to go into. All these new vehicles are so sophisticated, it’s crazy. Flat rate just sucks.

You should do what I do. I make $30,000-$40,000 a month. Monday through Friday during the day and so on. I would never think about being a mechanic and messing with that crap all the time. I was about to buy a D1 Max because they are on sale, but I noticed that the updates were twice as expensive making wonder what else it must have. I really wish the websites were more clear about individual differences between models.

Those are absolutely not rebranded MAC RBRT. Not even close. I own both and the design of the anti rounding technology is completely different. Not that the capri aren’t good wrenches, but they are most certainly not rebranded MAC RBRT.

The problem is similar to the problem with women. SIMPS. But work simps. If men didn’t put up with the bs women pull then they wouldn’t act that way. If techs didn’t put up with the dealership bs then they wouldn’t act that way. I mean honestly, how the heck did getting paid only 50% of what you should EVER fly? Why was there not an industry wide revolt? The manufacturer should absorb ANY warranty cost, NOT the tech, or even the dealership, that’s theft. I just cannot fathom why people put up with this crap. I’d rather live on the street and I’d take my family with me! Ok, actually I’d work as a greeter at Walmart but you get my drift! Also, the way they charge less when a tech beats the book time is sooo short sighted and frankly, dumb. The proficient tech gets less money for all their experience and then the customer gets bent out of shape when they get sticker shock next time for the same job but a less experienced tech is doing it and the dealership charges the full book time, which rubs the customer the wrong way. Beating the book times is not cheating or taking advantage, it’s the FOUNDATION of the whole industry. The goal is to gain experience over years and reap the benefits on the latter half of your career for the hours you sacrificed and didn’t get paid for in the former half. Beating the book is how pros get compensation for their skills while completing the job in the allotted time is how rookies get paid but have time to learn. Undercutting the system is foolish.

I did get a new end and fixed that same problem.

To all the mechanics out there be thankful to God that that you're able to do something and fix practically anything in a lot that a lot of people can't fix but with that being said the stuff gets old it gets tiring laying outside in the cold being outside baking in the Sun problems with parts wrong parts fixing something and having things come back no one wants to pay good everybody wants your work for nothing where where there are other jobs where you can make the same money or better without all the stress

Every dealership I’ve ever worked at I’ve always had to bump heads with parts department and often get in arguments with their boss cause they never cared about how often they ordered wrong parts and how they would threaten to charge the techs for supposedly allegedly ordering wrong parts that had to get sent back

A couple of days ago. I change a radiator hose on a semi truck on the freeway, took me two hour, got paid $500 dollars on the same day, next day. swap out alternator to a 2013 Nissan Altima. Took me 4 hour. got paid $700. Yes I am a mobile mechanic 😎

The flat rate system has been around over 60+ years, without any revision. That pay plan has a very secure position, unfortunately. The top 10-20% of earners work to keep the system in place.

We as techs ,under ele repairs ,,,there are two times $$$that we can claim ,,,1st is a minor repair = .8 hr and major repair = 1.4 hr, guess what its a ele problem in the dash, it has to be removed and fix for 1.4 and it takes 8 hours i loss

Professional....yeah. I know plenty of "professionals" who need their tools taken away. A certificate from uti or a trade school does NOT MAKE YOU A PROFESSIONAL... Professional told me a car in our shop had no timing issue. Never took cover off crankshaft...what do you know. Chain chain tensioner gone. Cams still in time though...

Go work at McDonald’s for a few months and come back here and let us know if you found that easier . Or better yet , get fired and let us know how food stamps are easier .. I’m fully employed but I understand perspective is everything
